Updated: November 2026
Quick answer: the best Kashmir tour package for most first-time visitors is 6 or 7 days covering Srinagar (with one night on a Dal Lake houseboat), Gulmarg and Pahalgam, with Sonamarg added as a day trip. Pick 5 days only if you are short on leave, add Katra if you want Vaishno Devi darshan, and choose a winter package (December–February) only if snow is the main reason for your trip. Below is how Suzu Travels’ own Kashmir packages compare, what a good package must include, and what changed in Kashmir in 2025–26.
What’s open in Kashmir now (updated November 2026)
- Srinagar: Dal Lake, houseboats, the Mughal gardens and the old city are open. The Tulip Garden was among 14 spots the Lieutenant Governor ordered reopened on 16 February 2026, taking the total reopened since the April 2025 closures to 42 (Business Today, 17 February 2026).
- Gulmarg: town, ski slopes and the Gondola are running; Gondola fares reported in 2026 range from about ₹700–₹810 for Phase 1 and ₹900–₹1,010 for Phase 2, so book on the official Gulmarg Gondola portal and pay the fare it shows on the day. The Gondola was shut from 25 May 2026 for a technical fault and reopened in late June. See our Gulmarg guide.
- Pahalgam: town and riverfront open; Betaab Valley reopened 17 June 2025, Aru Valley 29 September 2025, and Chandanwari by June 2026. Baisaran meadow is still closed; we found no reopening order up to early November 2026. See our Pahalgam guide.
- Sonamarg: reachable all year through the Z-Morh tunnel (opened 13 January 2025); Thajiwas Glacier reopened on 16 February 2026. See our Sonmarg guide.
- Zoji La: BRO kept the pass open through the 2025–26 winter for the first time, with short closures after snow (The Tribune, 6 March 2026).
- Still restricted: nearly 30 destinations across J&K remained closed in July 2026 (The Wire), and trekking routes such as the Great Lakes, Kolahoi and Tarsar-Marsar were still shut in mid-2026.
Status can change at short notice. Check J&K Tourism and local police advisories a few days before you travel; we re-confirm what is open before every trip.

How to choose the right Kashmir package
1. Number of days
- 4–5 days: Srinagar + Gulmarg + Pahalgam, with long drives. Sonamarg usually gets dropped.
- 6–7 days: the sweet spot. You can sleep a night in Gulmarg or Pahalgam instead of doing them as rushed day trips, and still fit Sonamarg.
- 8+ days: add Vaishno Devi (Katra, about 50 km from Jammu airport by Jammu taxi), Doodhpathri, or extend to Ladakh in summer when the Srinagar–Leh highway is open.
2. Season
Spring (late March–April) is tulip and blossom time, summer (May–August) is the busiest and greenest, autumn (late October–November) brings golden chinars and fewer crowds, and winter (December–February) is for snow. The month-by-month detail is in our best time to visit Kashmir guide; for winter, also read the Kashmir winter travel guide.
3. Where you sleep
One night on a Dal Lake houseboat is worth it; more than two nights is usually not, because you will want to be out sightseeing. Check the houseboat category (standard, deluxe or premium) in writing, and ask whether the Gulmarg and Pahalgam nights are actually in those towns or in Srinagar with day trips.
4. How you arrive
Most guests fly into Srinagar (SXR). Since 2 May 2026 the Vande Bharat Express also runs all the way from Jammu Tawi to Srinagar, so you can take a train to Jammu or Katra and continue by rail (timings and fares in our Katra to Srinagar train guide). If you prefer road, see our Jammu to Srinagar taxi service.
What a good Kashmir package should include
- A private cab with driver for the whole trip, with the cab type named (sedan, SUV or Tempo Traveller).
- Hotels and houseboat named or at least categorised, with the meal plan stated (most Kashmir packages include breakfast and dinner).
- A shikara ride on Dal Lake.
- A clear list of what you pay locally. In Pahalgam the side valleys (Betaab, Aru, Chandanwari) are visited in local union taxis, and pony rides, sledges and Gulmarg Gondola tickets are usually extra. A good quote tells you this upfront.
- Airport or railway-station pick-up and drop.
If a quote looks much cheaper than others, it usually leaves out the houseboat, uses Srinagar for every night, or drops dinner. Compare what is included, not only the total. Our Kashmir trip cost guide breaks down flights from major cities and the local extras to budget for.
What changed in Kashmir in 2025–26
- Pahalgam: after the April 2025 attack, several spots were closed. Betaab Valley, Aru Valley and Chandanwari have since reopened, but Baisaran meadow was still closed to visitors in 2026. Itineraries now plan Pahalgam around the open valleys and the Lidder river.
- Sonamarg in winter: the Sonamarg (Z-Morh) tunnel, opened in January 2025, keeps Sonamarg reachable from Srinagar through winter, subject to weather.
- Rail to Srinagar: Vande Bharat trains run Jammu Tawi – Katra – Srinagar from 2 May 2026.
- Gulmarg Gondola: book only on the official J&K Cable Car Corporation (JKCCC) portal. Phase 2 stops often for wind or snow, and the Gondola has been closing on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month for maintenance — plan your Gulmarg day around that.
- Mobile network: prepaid SIMs from outside J&K do not work in Kashmir; postpaid connections do. Carry a postpaid number or buy a local SIM on arrival.
