Short answer: Doodhpathri and Yusmarg are two quieter meadow valleys in Budgam district, each an easy day trip from Srinagar. Doodhpathri sits at about 2,730 m, roughly 42 km from Srinagar via Budgam and Khansahib, with the milky Shaliganga stream running through wide grasslands. Yusmarg is at about 2,396 m, around 47–53 km away via Charar-e-Sharief, with pine forest and the Doodganga river. Both were among the 14 destinations reopened on 16 February 2026. Go May to October for green meadows; in winter, heavy snow can cut access. A Suzu day trip cab starts at ₹3,000 (sedan).

Are Doodhpathri and Yusmarg open in 2026?
Yes. Both were closed after the April 2025 Pahalgam attack, when nearly 50 destinations across J&K were shut for a security review. On 16 February 2026 the Lieutenant Governor ordered 14 more spots reopened, including Yousmarg and Doodhpathri, taking the total reopened to 42 (Business Today, 17 February 2026). Trekking is a separate matter: routes including Tosamaidan–Yusmarg were still closed in June 2026, with operators asking for them to reopen (The Himalayan Post, 4 June 2026). Check J&K Tourism and Budgam police advisories before planning any walk beyond the meadows.

Tips for a good day
- Carry water, snacks and a warm layer; facilities are basic and weather changes fast.
- Keep to the meadows and marked paths; do not set off on long treks without checking they are open.
- Respect grazing herds and shepherd camps; ask before photographing people.
- Carry cash; card and mobile coverage can be patchy.
- Take your litter back to Srinagar.
What this means for your trip

Both are open again since February 2026, both are under two hours from Srinagar, and both are best as a relaxed day with a picnic. Choose Doodhpathri for open meadows, Yusmarg for forest and river.
