Short answer: The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar opens only for about a month each spring, while the tulips bloom. In 2026 it opened on 16 March (about ten days earlier than planned, because of warm weather) and closed on 16 April; in 2025 it opened on 26 March. For 2027, expect an opening between mid and late March and a season of roughly four to five weeks; the Floriculture Department announces the date in March. Tickets were ₹75 for adults and ₹30 for children (5–12) in 2025, timings 9 am to 7 pm, and tickets can be booked online on the department’s portal.

When will the Tulip Garden open in 2027?

No date is announced in November; the Floriculture Department fixes it a few days ahead, once the first beds bloom. Past seasons give a good guide:

Season Opened Closed Visitors Source
2026 16 March 16 April About 3.8–3.9 lakh AIR News; Kashmir Life; Himalayan Post
2025 26 March After about a month 8.55 lakh (record) India TV; Rising Kashmir

In 2026 the show was originally set for the last week of March but opened nearly ten days early because warm weather brought the bloom forward (Outlook Traveller). Officials linked the shorter, earlier season partly to that early bloom (Himalayan Post, 17 April 2026). Preparation for the next season began as soon as the garden closed, with new varieties shortlisted (Kashmir Life, 16 April 2026).

What to do: if you can, plan for the last week of March or first week of April, when overlap with both early and late seasons is best. Book refundable rooms, and watch for the official opening announcement in early to mid-March. Weather and what else is open that month are in our Kashmir in March guide.

Ticket price, timings and online booking

Item Details
Adult ticket ₹75 including GST (2025)
Child ticket (5–12 years) ₹30 including GST (2025)
Timings 9:00 am to 7:00 pm daily during the season (2025)
Online tickets floriculture.jk.gov.in, the Floriculture Department–J&K Bank portal launched in March 2026

Ticket and timing figures are from India TV’s 2025 opening report; the Tulip Garden has had a separate, higher fee than other gardens since the March 2024 revision (Kashmir Life). The 2027 fee will be shown on the portal; budget about the same.

What will you see?

  • Tulips: about 18 lakh in 2026, in more than 70 varieties, planted in long colour bands down terraces facing Dal Lake (AIR News, 16 March 2026).
  • Other bulbs: nearly one lakh daffodils, hyacinths and narcissus.
  • The view: the Zabarwan hills behind and Dal Lake below; the garden is described as Asia’s largest tulip garden.
  • Bloom stages: early varieties open first, so the first week can look patchy and the last week tired; the middle two weeks are fullest.

How to visit without the crowds

  • Go at 9 am on a weekday; light is softer and queues shorter.
  • Book tickets online the day before.
  • Avoid weekends and holidays, when locals and tourists both visit.
  • Combine with the Botanical Garden next door, then Chashme Shahi and Pari Mahal on the same hillside.
  • Carry a light jacket; late March mornings in Srinagar are cool and showers are common.

A 3-day tulip-season plan

Day Plan
Day 1 Arrive Srinagar, houseboat check-in, sunset shikara.
Day 2 9 am Tulip Garden, Botanical Garden, then Nishat and Shalimar; Pari Mahal at sunset.
Day 3 Gulmarg day trip: snow still on the upper slopes and at the gondola top in spring.

Extend to 5–6 days with Pahalgam (Betaab, Aru) and Sonmarg; see our Kashmir itinerary. Our Magical Kashmir Economy tour starts from ₹16,999 per person and the Kashmir Houseboat Tour 5D/4N from ₹21,999 per person (both twin sharing, live pages November 2026; tulip season may be priced higher). Photography tips for the Tulip Garden

  • Light: the first hour after opening gives soft light and empty rows; by midday the sun is flat and the paths are crowded.
  • Angles: shoot from the upper terraces down across the colour bands towards Dal Lake, or low along a single row with the Zabarwan hills behind.
  • Stay on the paths: stepping into the beds damages bulbs and staff will ask you to move.
  • Rain is not a loss: spring showers are common; wet petals and clouds on the hills often make better pictures than harsh sun.
  • Drones: do not fly one without checking local rules and getting permission.

What else is in bloom in spring?

Tulip season overlaps with Srinagar’s spring. The Mughal gardens (Nishat, Shalimar, Chashme Shahi) and the Botanical Garden are freshly planted, fruit trees blossom across the valley, and Gulmarg’s upper slopes and the gondola top still hold snow, so one trip can give you flowers in Srinagar and snow a two-hour drive away. Late March and April also bring showers and cool mornings: pack a light waterproof and a warm layer.

Getting there and staying nearby

The garden is a short drive from Boulevard Road and the Dal Lake ghats. A Srinagar city cab or a half-day sightseeing cab works best (see our Srinagar taxi service). Stay on a Dal or Nigeen houseboat or a Boulevard hotel; our Dal Lake houseboat guide explains categories. Spring is busy, so book rooms and flights four to six weeks ahead.

Is Kashmir open in spring 2027?

The Tulip Garden was among 14 destinations the Lieutenant Governor ordered reopened on 16 February 2026 after the post-April 2025 closures (Business Today), and the 2026 show ran normally. Most of Kashmir’s main sights are open; Baisaran near Pahalgam remains closed. Check J&K Tourism and police advisories before you travel.

What this means for your trip

Plan a spring Kashmir trip around the last week of March and the first week of April 2027, keep dates a little flexible, and book tickets online once the opening is announced. Visit at 9 am on a weekday, pair the garden with the Mughal gardens, and add Gulmarg for spring snow.
