To choose a Kashmir tour operator or travel agency, check its registration (Kashmir-based agents register with J&K Tourism under the Registration of Tourist Trade Act; operators from other states hold their own state’s registration), get a written quote that names every houseboat and hotel, and read the exclusions before you pay. Suzu Travels is a Himachal-registered tour operator (HP Tourism, Reg. No. DTO-MND-11-243/2022) that plans and runs private Kashmir trips from ₹16,999 per person. We are based in Himachal and do not have an office in Kashmir; this page explains how that works.

Kashmir tours and travels: local agency, big brand or regional operator?
Three kinds of company sell Kashmir trips. None is right for everyone.
| Srinagar-based travel agency | National brand or online agency | Regional operator from another state (like Suzu) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Registration to check | J&K Tourism registration | Company details, GST invoice | Home-state tourism registration, GST invoice |
| On the ground in Kashmir | Office and staff in Srinagar | Usually through local suppliers | Kashmir-based drivers, houseboats and hotels; planner reachable by phone and WhatsApp |
| Price | Often the lowest; quality varies | Higher; standard packages | In between; private, customised trips |
| Good for | Travellers who can check the agency themselves | Travellers who want flights and a big brand in one booking | Travellers who want one planner and a written, itemised quote, often with Himachal or Ladakh too |
How to check a travel agency in Kashmir
- Registration. In Jammu and Kashmir, travel agents, hotels, houseboats, guides and even ponywalas register with the Tourism Department under the J&K Registration of Tourist Trade Act, 1978. In February 2026 the government reminded all tourism stakeholders to register or renew, and said registration is handled online through the Tourism Department’s portal (Kashmir Life, 3 February 2026). Ask a Kashmir-based agency for its registration number and confirm it with the Directorate of Tourism, Kashmir. An operator from another state should show its own state registration; ours is with HP Tourism and the certificate is on our website.
- A real address and invoice. Ask for the company name, address and a GST invoice. Pay by bank transfer or card to a business account, not cash to a person.
- The houseboat’s own registration. Houseboats are graded Deluxe and A to D. Ask for the boat’s name, category, lake (Dal or Nigeen) and ghat, and recent unedited video of your room and bathroom.
- Who you will meet. Ask who picks you up at Srinagar airport and who you call if something goes wrong on day 3.
- Reviews. Read recent reviews of Kashmir trips specifically, and look at what went wrong and how it was handled.
What a Kashmir quote must include
| Item | What it should say | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Hotels and houseboat | Name and category for every night, not “or similar” | Category decides the price; “similar” can mean anything |
| Meal plan | Breakfast and dinner, or room only | Dinner in Gulmarg and Pahalgam is costly to buy |
| Vehicle | Type (sedan, Ertiga, Innova), private or shared, AC or not | Six people do not fit in a sedan |
| Pahalgam and Sonamarg sightseeing | Whether the union taxi is included | Your Srinagar car cannot go to Betaab, Aru or Chandanwari |
| Gulmarg gondola | Included or not (in most quotes, not) | Tickets are sold on the official J&K Cable Car portal |
| Shikara | Duration (one hour is common) | Longer rides cost extra |
| Tolls, parking, driver allowance | Included or not | Small items that add up |
| Winter | Heating; chained taxi from Tangmarg after snow | December to February comfort and access |
| Cancellation | Written terms with percentages | Plans change; know the cost |
Red flags when booking a Kashmir trip
- A quote with no hotel or houseboat names, only “deluxe” and “or similar”.
- A price far below everyone else’s that says “all sightseeing included”, then union taxis, gondola and ponies are charged on the spot.
- Anyone selling gondola tickets at a markup or a “special quota”. The J&K Cable Car Corporation tells visitors to book on its official site and not to fall prey to touts.
- An itinerary that includes closed places. Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam is still closed: it is on the Anantnag district list of closed destinations dated 7 July 2026, and we found no reopening order up to early November 2026. Trekking routes stayed closed “until further orders” in July 2026 (The Wire).
- Full payment in cash or to a personal account, with no invoice.
- Promises of snow on fixed dates. Nobody can promise the weather.
- Houseboat touts at the airport or along the Boulevard offering “today only” rates.

How Suzu Travels runs Kashmir trips
We are a Himachal-based tour operator, founded in 2019 and registered with HP Tourism (Reg. No. DTO-MND-11-243/2022). Our office is in Himachal Pradesh; we do not have an office in Srinagar. We plan Kashmir trips from Himachal and run them with Kashmir-based drivers, houseboats and hotels. Here is what that means for you:
- Enquiry: you send dates, group and budget by WhatsApp, phone or the quote form.
- Written quote: every night’s houseboat or hotel named, meal plan, vehicle type, and a clear list of what is not included.
- Booking: confirmations for each stay, and the driver’s name and number before you fly.
- On the trip: a private car and driver from Srinagar airport (or Jammu) to the end. Your planner stays reachable by phone and WhatsApp. We check what is open before each trip.
- What we leave to you: gondola tickets (official portal only), pony rides and union taxis, which are paid locally. We tell you the process.
Cancellation terms are printed on each package page: 20% of the package cost is charged if you cancel 30 days or more before departure, 40% at 15–30 days, 70% at 7–14 days, and 100% within 7 days. More about us: About Suzu Travels. Travel agents looking for a ground partner should see our Kashmir DMC page for agents.

Peak dates (Christmas–New Year, school holidays, long weekends) and higher hotel categories cost more. “On request” means the page prints no price; we quote it for your dates. You get a written quote before you pay anything.
Every package includes hotel and houseboat nights, breakfast and dinner, a private car with driver, a one-hour shikara ride, and fuel, tolls, parking and driver allowance. Flights or trains, gondola tickets, entry fees, union taxis, pony rides and lunch are not included. All trips are on the Kashmir tour packages hub.
When to book
- May–June and Christmas–New Year: book 6–8 weeks ahead; houseboats and Gulmarg hotels fill first.
- Late March–April: tulip season; book a month ahead.
- September–November: off-season rates and calm roads; two to three weeks is usually enough.
- December–February: snow; Chillai Kalan (21 December–31 January) is the coldest stretch, so insist on heated rooms in writing.
