Why Bali keeps winning
Bali is a Hindu island in the world’s largest Muslim country, and that cultural distinctiveness is a large part of the appeal. Temple offerings appear on doorsteps every morning, ceremonies spill into the streets, and the landscape moves from rice terrace to volcano to surf beach within an hour’s drive. For Indian visitors there is an unexpected familiarity in the iconography — Ganesha, Saraswati and the Ramayana are everywhere. Add private pool villas at prices that would buy a standard hotel room in Europe, and the popularity makes sense.
Choosing where to stay — this decides your holiday
Bali’s areas are genuinely different, and picking wrong is the most common Bali mistake. Traffic is bad, so wherever you base yourself is where you will spend most of your time.
Seminyak and Canggu
Beach clubs, restaurants, boutiques and sunset bars. Lively, stylish, good for couples and younger travellers. Canggu is the more relaxed, surf-oriented version. Not the best beaches on the island, but the best atmosphere in the evenings.
Ubud
Inland among the rice terraces and monkey forest. Yoga, art markets, temples and jungle villas. Cooler and greener, no beach. Two or three nights in Ubud paired with time on the coast is the classic Bali split and we recommend it for most first trips.
Nusa Dua and Jimbaran
Calm, clean beaches and larger resorts. Nusa Dua is the most family-friendly part of the island with gentle water; Jimbaran has the seafood dinners on the sand. Quieter and more contained — ideal if you want to relax rather than explore.
Uluwatu
Dramatic clifftops, the sea temple with its Kecak fire dance at sunset, and the best surf breaks. Spectacular views, but steep access to most beaches and a long drive from the airport in traffic.

Common questions about Bali
Indian passport holders get a visa on arrival, which can also be bought online in advance as an e-VOA. It is normally valid for 30 days and extendable once. A separate tourist levy applies. We confirm the current fees for your dates.
Five nights is the practical minimum given the flight time, and six to seven is comfortable. Split your stay between Ubud and a coastal area rather than staying in one place — the island is too varied for a single base.
It is one of the strongest honeymoon destinations anywhere for the money. Private pool villas that would be unaffordable elsewhere are standard here. Tell us it is a honeymoon and we will arrange the extras with the property rather than leaving it to chance.
Worse than people expect. A 30-kilometre drive can take two hours in peak periods. This is exactly why your choice of base matters so much, and why we plan day trips in geographic clusters instead of criss-crossing the island.
The scenery is the most dramatic in Bali. But it is a long day — an early fast boat, rough roads on the island and a late return. If anyone in your group gets seasick or has mobility issues, we would honestly suggest skipping it.
Yes. Ubud in particular is full of vegetarian and vegan cafés, and Seminyak and Kuta have proper Indian restaurants. Balinese food does use shrimp paste, so pure vegetarian needs asking for. Jain meals need advance notice, which we handle.
