Sonmarg Tour Package 2026: Thajiwas Glacier & Sindh Valley from ₹16,999

A Sonmarg tour package with Suzu Travels is a Kashmir trip that gives the “meadow of gold” a proper day: the Sindh river drive from Srinagar (about 80 km, 2–2.5 hours through the Z-Morh tunnel), the walk or pony ride to Thajiwas Glacier, and the union-taxi run towards Zoji La and Zero Point in season. Sonmarg works best as a day trip added to any of our Kashmir packages, which start from ₹16,999 per person (6 days, twin sharing, off-season); the 7-day Kashmir with Vaishno Devi trip, from ₹24,999, already lists Sonamarg among its destinations. Kashmir packages with Sonmarg and prices (2026)

Sonmarg does not need a separate package: it slots into any Suzu Kashmir trip as a day from Srinagar, and the longer circuits plan it in. These are the live packages, per person, twin sharing, off-season, as printed on each package page today.

How you reach Sonmarg

Sonmarg (also spelt Sonamarg) is a meadow town at about 2,740 m in Ganderbal district, on the Srinagar–Leh highway. From Srinagar the road runs north-east through Ganderbal and Kangan along the Sindh river, then through the Z-Morh tunnel into the Sonmarg bowl — about 80 km and 2–2.5 hours in normal traffic. The tunnel, inaugurated on 13 January 2025, bypasses the avalanche-prone Gagangir stretch that used to cut the town off every winter, so Sonmarg under January snow is now a realistic plan. There is no airport or railhead in Sonmarg; you fly or take the Vande Bharat to Srinagar and drive. As a day trip you leave Srinagar around 7:30 am, get about five hours on the ground — enough for Thajiwas or Zero Point, not both — and are back by 6–7 pm. The union rule: read this before you go

Like Pahalgam, Sonmarg runs on local unions. Your package car brings you to the town and waits; beyond that you hire locally. Only Sonmarg union taxis go past the town to Zero Point, the Zoji La war memorial and Baltal, at rates fixed on the board at the Sonmarg stand and paid per vehicle on the spot — they are not in any Kashmir package price, including ours. Thajiwas Glacier, about 3 km from town, is reached on foot (1.5–2 hours each way) or by pony at rates set by the local pony union; confirm the rate, the turnaround point and waiting time before you start, and agree sledge prices before the ride. How much does a Sonmarg tour package cost?
Sonmarg is added as a day to any Suzu Kashmir package, which start from ₹16,999 per person for 6 days (twin sharing, off-season). The 7-day Kashmir with Vaishno Devi trip, from ₹24,999, lists Sonamarg among its destinations. The extra day is re-quoted on your dates; union taxis and ponies at Sonmarg are paid locally.

Is there a separate package only for Sonmarg?
We do not sell a Sonmarg-only fixed package. The town is a day trip from Srinagar, so it works best inside the Srinagar–Gulmarg–Pahalgam circuit; if you want a Sonmarg night or two, we plan and quote it for your dates.

How far is Sonmarg from Srinagar?
About 80 km via Ganderbal and Kangan along the Sindh river, 2–2.5 hours by car. It is the easiest of the three classic day trips from Srinagar.

Can my package car take me to Thajiwas Glacier or Zero Point?
No. Thajiwas, about 3 km from town, is reached on foot or by pony, and only Sonmarg union taxis go beyond the town to Zero Point, Zoji La and Baltal, at board rates paid per vehicle on the spot. Your package car waits in town.

Is Sonmarg open in winter?
Yes, the town — the Z-Morh tunnel, opened on 13 January 2025, keeps the road open through winter apart from short snow closures. The Thajiwas trail and Zero Point are usually off in deep winter, so a winter visit is about the snowy meadow and the town.

Is Thajiwas Glacier open?
Yes. Thajiwas was in the batch of destinations ordered reopened on 16 February 2026, and the trail season runs roughly April/May to October. The multi-day treks from the area, including the Great Lakes circuit, were still closed through mid-2026.

Can I do Gulmarg and Sonmarg in one day?
Not comfortably. They are in different directions from Srinagar, so you would spend most of the day driving. Our plans give each its own day.

Should I stay overnight in Sonmarg?
Most guests do Sonmarg as a day trip — about five hours on the ground covers Thajiwas or Zero Point. One night makes it relaxed and lets you do both; we add Sonmarg nights to any package and re-quote it.
