Understanding Vietnam’s geography before you plan
Vietnam runs roughly 1,600 kilometres north to south, and this single fact governs every itinerary. The north around Hanoi and Ha Long is cool in winter and has a genuine cold season. The centre around Da Nang and Hoi An has its own rain pattern. The south around Ho Chi Minh City is tropical and warm all year. There is no single month when the entire country is at its best, and no way to see all three regions properly in under eight days. Most first trips should pick two. We will tell you which two suit your dates rather than selling you all three and a lot of internal flights.
The three regions
North — Hanoi, Ha Long Bay and Sapa
Hanoi’s old quarter is chaotic in the best way, with French colonial architecture and street food on every corner. Ha Long Bay’s thousands of limestone karsts are best seen on an overnight cruise rather than a day trip. Sapa’s rice terraces are a further night north and worth it if you have the days. This is the region with real winter, so pack accordingly between December and February.
Centre — Da Nang, Hoi An and Hue
Hoi An is the highlight of Vietnam for many travellers: a preserved trading port of tailors’ shops and silk lanterns, beautiful at dusk. Da Nang has the beaches and the Golden Bridge held by giant stone hands at Ba Na Hills. Hue has the imperial citadel. This region is compact and easy, and Hoi An is where people most often wish they had booked an extra night.
South — Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong
Saigon is fast, modern and dense with history — the War Remnants Museum and the Cu Chi tunnels are sobering and essential. The Mekong Delta day trip takes you into floating markets and coconut-lined canals. Warm all year, with a rainy season of short heavy afternoon downpours.

Yes. Indian passport holders need an e-visa, applied for online before travel. Processing takes several working days and applications get rejected for minor errors surprisingly often. We prepare and submit it for you.
Six days covers two regions comfortably. Eight to nine lets you do north, centre and south without living in airports. Under five days, pick one region only — the country is simply too long to rush.
Yes, clearly. The day trip means four hours of driving for a few hours on the water. Sleeping on the bay gives you sunset, sunrise and the quieter parts of the bay after the day boats leave. Cruise standards vary hugely, so the specific boat matters.
More challenging than Thailand or Malaysia, because fish sauce and meat stock are used widely. It is very manageable with planning — Buddhist vegetarian restaurants exist in every city and hotels can cater. Jain requirements need proper advance notice, which we give.
