When is the best time for a Kashmir honeymoon?
| Season | What it feels like | Best for couples who… |
|---|---|---|
| Mid-Dec to Feb | Snow in Gulmarg, misty lake mornings, sub-zero nights (Gulmarg’s January average low is about -7.7°C) | want snow, sledges and a ski lesson, and don’t mind the cold |
| Late Mar–Apr | Tulip Garden, almond and apple blossom, cool days | love flowers and photographs |
| May–June | Green meadows, snow still high up, long days; busiest and dearest | want everything open and pleasant weather |
| July–Aug | Green but Amarnath Yatra traffic around Pahalgam and Sonmarg | are flexible; focus on Srinagar and Gulmarg |
| Sept–Nov | Clear skies; chinars turn red and gold from late October; quiet and good value | want calm, colour and lower prices |
Our pick for most couples: late October to early December. Rates are off-season, roads are clear, and Gulmarg often has its first snow by December. For month detail see Kashmir in November and Kashmir in December.

| 2 | Dawn shikara to the floating market (optional), Nishat and Shalimar gardens, Pari Mahal at sunset for the view over Dal. | Srinagar hotel |
| 3 | Drive to Gulmarg (about 50 km). Afternoon meadow walk or snow play; early dinner. | Gulmarg |
| 4 | First gondola slot to Kongdoori and, if open, Apharwat. Drive to Pahalgam (about 140 km) in the afternoon. | Pahalgam |
| 5 | Union taxi to Betaab Valley and Aru; pony ride at Aru; slow afternoon by the Lidder. | Pahalgam |
| 6 | Drive to Srinagar airport (about 95 km), with a stop at Pampore’s saffron fields in season. | — |
Seven days? Add a Sonmarg day trip from Srinagar (see the Sonmarg guide). Five days? Drop the second Pahalgam night. More options are in our Kashmir itinerary guide.
Where should a honeymoon couple stay?
- Houseboat: choose Deluxe or a good A-category boat. Nigeen Lake is smaller and quieter, with fewer vendor boats; Dal is livelier and closer to the Boulevard. Ask for an attached bath, hot water and, from October to March, heating in writing. Our Dal Lake houseboat guide explains categories and approximate prices.
- Gulmarg: stay close to the gondola base so you can take the first slot. In winter, a room with good heating matters more than a view.
- Pahalgam: a riverside room on the Lidder or a quieter property on the Aru or Chandanwari road.
When you book with us, tell us it’s your honeymoon. We’ll ask the houseboat and hotels what they can arrange, such as a room with a better view or a cake on the first night; any extras are at their discretion and cost.

Practical tips for couples
- Carry photo ID for both; houseboats and hotels register every guest.
- Mobile network: prepaid SIMs from outside J&K don’t work in Kashmir; postpaid connections do. Keep at least one postpaid number.
- Dress warmly even in summer evenings; in winter pack thermals, waterproof boots and gloves.
- Agree prices first for ponies, sledges and photographers in costume.
- Check advisories from J&K Tourism and local police a few days before travel; Baisaran remains closed.

Kashmir or Manali for a honeymoon?
Kashmir wins on houseboats, gardens and reliable winter snow at Gulmarg; Manali wins on easy road access from Delhi and cafés. If you’re torn, our Manali vs Kashmir comparison and the honeymoon trip planner help you decide.
What this means for your trip
For most couples, a 6-day trip with a houseboat night, a Gulmarg night and two Pahalgam nights is the sweet spot. Pick late October to early December for value and calm, or January–February if snow is the dream. Budget roughly ₹66,000–91,000 for two from Delhi, and book houseboats and Gulmarg rooms early for peak dates.
Kashmir honeymoon: frequently asked questions
Which month is best for a Kashmir honeymoon?
Late October to early December for calm, colour and off-season prices; January–February for snow; April for tulips; May–June for green meadows. Avoid July–August if you want quiet Pahalgam and Sonmarg, because of Amarnath Yatra traffic.
How many days are enough for a Kashmir honeymoon?
Six days and five nights is ideal: Srinagar (with a houseboat), Gulmarg and two nights in Pahalgam. Five days works if you drop a Pahalgam night; seven lets you add Sonmarg.
What is the cost of a Kashmir honeymoon package for a couple?
Land packages start at ₹16,999 per person on twin sharing (about ₹34,000 for two) on Suzu’s economy tour, and ₹21,999 per person for the deluxe houseboat tour off-season. With Delhi flights and local extras, expect roughly ₹66,000–91,000 for two.
Is a houseboat good for a honeymoon?
Yes, for one or two nights. Choose a Deluxe or good A-category boat, prefer Nigeen Lake for quiet, and confirm attached bath, hot water and heating in writing.
Is Kashmir safe for honeymoon couples?
Couples visit Srinagar, Gulmarg, Sonmarg and Pahalgam’s open valleys every season. Baisaran near Pahalgam remains closed. Follow official advisories and local police instructions, and plan with an operator who checks the latest status before your trip.
Can we see snow on a Kashmir honeymoon in December?
Often, especially at Gulmarg and the gondola top station, which are much higher than Srinagar. Snow is most reliable from late December to February; Srinagar town gets it only in some years.
