Short answer: For Manali, plan 3 days for the essentials (local sightseeing, Solang Valley, Atal Tunnel and Sissu), 4 days to add Naggar or Kullu–Manikaran–Kasol, and 5 days to add a spare weather day, rafting or paragliding. Count days in Manali, not travel days: from Delhi the road is about 540 km and 11–13 hours each way, so a “3-day Manali trip” from Delhi is really a 5-day trip. From November to May, swap Rohtang for Sissu; from about June to October, Rohtang can replace Sissu on a non-Tuesday with a permit.
Quick answer: Manali itinerary at a glance
- 3 days: Day 1 local sightseeing · Day 2 Solang Valley · Day 3 Atal Tunnel and Sissu (or Rohtang in summer).
- 4 days: add Naggar castle, the Roerich gallery and Jana waterfall, or a Kullu–Manikaran–Kasol day.
- 5 days: add a free day for snow, rafting on the Beas, paragliding or Jogini Falls.
- Getting there: Delhi about 540 km (11–13 hours), Chandigarh about 290 km (7–8 hours), Kullu–Manali airport at Bhuntar about 50 km.
- Season rule: Rohtang is shut for the winter; the Atal Tunnel to Sissu is the snow trip from November to April, weather permitting.
- Best base: Mall Road area for families; Old Manali or Vashisht for couples and backpackers.

How many days are enough for Manali?
Three full days in Manali covers what most first-time visitors come for. Four days lets you slow down and add the old Kullu capital at Naggar or the Parvati valley. Five days is the comfortable choice in winter, when one snow day may be lost to a road closure, and for families with small children who can’t do long days back to back.
| Days in Manali | Total trip from Delhi | Total trip from Chandigarh | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 days | 5 days (overnight bus or cab both ways) | 5 days with daytime drives | First-timers, long weekends |
| 4 days | 6 days | 6 days | Couples, honeymooners, friends |
| 5 days | 7 days | 7 days | Families, winter snow trips, slow travellers |
What is the best 3-day Manali itinerary?
| Day | Plan | Tips |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1: Manali local | Arrive in the morning, check in and rest. Afternoon: Hadimba Devi temple, Manu temple and Old Manali lanes, Vashisht hot springs. Evening on Mall Road. | After an overnight bus, keep this day light. On a later trip day, go to Hadimba before 9 am to beat the queues. |
| Day 2: Solang Valley | Leave by 8 am for Solang (13 km). Gondola, snow play or skiing lessons in winter; paragliding and zorbing in spring and autumn. Back by afternoon; Tibetan monastery and Van Vihar. | Weekend jams on the Palchan road are common; an early start saves hours. |
| Day 3: Atal Tunnel and Sissu | Drive through the 9.02 km Atal Tunnel into Lahaul to Sissu (about 40 km): lake, waterfall, snow from December to March. In summer, swap for Rohtang Pass (51 km) with a permit. | After heavy snow, police may hold traffic at Solang or the tunnel; keep this day flexible. |
If you are on a tight budget, our Delhi to Manali budget trip plan runs this same 3-day shape on an overnight Volvo. The in-town stops are explained in detail in our Manali local sightseeing guide.
What is the best 4-day Manali itinerary?
Keep Days 1–3 from the plan above and add one of these on Day 4. Both are full days.
| Day 4 option | What you see | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Naggar and Jana | Naggar castle (about 20 km south, 15th century, now an HPTDC heritage hotel), the Nicholas Roerich art gallery, then up to Jana waterfall for a village lunch. | Couples, history and art lovers, quiet days. |
| Kullu, Manikaran and Kasol | Kullu shawl factories, the Manikaran gurudwara and hot springs, then the riverside village of Kasol (about 75 km from Manali). | Families, pilgrims, friends who want cafes by the Parvati. |
The Kasol day is long. If the Parvati valley is the real reason for your trip, stay a night there instead; see our Kasol trip plan.
What is the best 5-day Manali itinerary?
| Day | Plan |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | Arrive, rest, evening on Mall Road and at the Tibetan market. |
| Day 2 | Manali local: Hadimba early, Old Manali and Manu temple, Vashisht, optional walk to Jogini Falls (about an hour each way from the top of Vashisht). |
| Day 3 | Solang Valley: gondola, snow or adventure activities. |
| Day 4 | Atal Tunnel and Sissu (winter) or Rohtang Pass (summer, permit, not on Tuesdays in the 2026 season). |
| Day 5 | Naggar and Jana, or rafting on the Beas and a Kullu stop on the way out. Depart in the evening for Delhi, or next morning for Chandigarh. |
With five days, keep Day 4 and Day 5 swappable. If snow closes the tunnel on Day 4, do Naggar that day and Sissu the next. Families with young children can see how we pace this in our Manali family trip 5-day itinerary.
How should the Manali itinerary change by season?
| Season | Snow trip | What to add | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| November–mid-December | Sissu (snow not certain yet) | Naggar, Vashisht hot springs, clear-sky views | Cold nights; Rohtang closed |
| Late December–February | Solang and Sissu, best snow odds | Skiing lessons at Solang, Winter Carnival in January | Road holds after heavy snow; Christmas–New Year crowds |
| March–April | Sissu and higher Solang slopes | Paragliding, Jogini Falls, apple blossom | Late spells can still shut the tunnel road |
| May–June | Rohtang (permit) once open | Rafting, paragliding, Hampta and short treks | Peak crowds and prices; start every day early |
| July–mid-September | Rohtang if the road is clear | Cafes, short walks, Naggar | Monsoon landslides; paragliding and rafting stop 15 July–15 September |
| Late September–October | Rohtang until it shuts for winter | Kullu Dussehra, apple harvest | Dussehra-week crowds in Kullu |
Our Rohtang permit and road status page is updated through the season, and snowfall in Manali has the month-by-month snow odds.

- Hadimba and Log Huts area: forest views and quieter nights, a short drive from the Mall.
- Solang and Palchan side: closer to the snow in winter, but you’ll depend on taxis for everything else.
What does this Manali itinerary cost?
On our published 2026 rates, Manali taxi days cost about ₹2,499 for local sightseeing and ₹2,499 for Solang in a sedan, and ₹3,499 for the Atal Tunnel–Sissu run (Manali taxi service). A full breakdown of hotels, food, transport and activities for 3, 4 and 5 days is in our Manali trip cost guide.
If you’d rather book the whole plan in one go, our Manali tour package from Delhi (4N/5D) starts from ₹14,999 per person off-season, and the Kullu Manali honeymoon package from Chandigarh from ₹12,999 per person, both twin sharing with Deluxe hotels, on their live pages.
What this means for your trip
Book at least three full days in Manali, and five in winter. Do the in-town sights on your arrival day, give Solang and the Atal Tunnel their own days, and keep one day you can swap if snow shuts a road. If you have a week, think about pairing Manali with Shimla rather than adding more Manali days; our Shimla Manali tour from Delhi (6D/5N) starts from ₹14,499 per person on its live page.
Manali itinerary: frequently asked questions
Is 3 days enough for Manali?
Yes, for the main sights: one day for Hadimba, Old Manali, Vashisht and Mall Road, one for Solang Valley and one for the Atal Tunnel and Sissu, or Rohtang in summer. From Delhi, add a travel day each way, so plan 5 days in total.
What is the best 4-day Manali itinerary?
Day 1 Manali local sightseeing, Day 2 Solang Valley, Day 3 Atal Tunnel and Sissu (Rohtang in summer), Day 4 Naggar castle, the Roerich gallery and Jana waterfall, or a Kullu–Manikaran–Kasol day.
Can I visit Rohtang Pass in winter?
No. Rohtang is closed to tourist traffic in winter and reopens around May or June. From November to April, the snow trip from Manali is through the Atal Tunnel to Sissu, when the road is open, or Solang Valley.
How many days do I need for Manali and Kasol?
Five days in the area works well: three in Manali for local sightseeing, Solang and Sissu, then two in Kasol for Manikaran and the Parvati valley. A Kasol day trip from Manali is possible but long, at about 75 km each way.
Which is the best place to stay in Manali?
Families usually prefer the Mall Road and Model Town area for easy walking and taxis. Couples and backpackers like Old Manali or Vashisht for cafes and quieter lanes. In peak snow season, the Solang and Palchan side is closer to the snow.
What is the best month for a Manali itinerary?
March to June and late September to November suit most itineraries, with clear roads and all activities open. Late December to February is best if you want snow, but keep a spare day for road closures. Avoid mid-July to mid-September if you can, because of monsoon landslides.
Can I do Manali in 2 days?
Only just. Use one day for Hadimba, Old Manali, Vashisht and Mall Road, and the second for Solang Valley. You will miss the Atal Tunnel and Sissu, which is the best snow trip in winter, so add a third day if you can.
