Updated: November 2026
Short answer: Manali local sightseeing is the standard one-day taxi circuit around town: Hadimba Devi temple, Manu temple in Old Manali, the Tibetan monastery, Club House and Van Vihar, Vashisht hot springs and Mall Road. It takes 5–7 hours and, on Suzu’s published 2026 Manali taxi rates, costs about ₹1,999 (hatchback), ₹2,499 (sedan) or ₹2,999 (SUV) for the whole car. Solang Valley, the Atal Tunnel–Sissu run, Naggar and Rohtang are separate day trips with their own fares.
Quick answer: Manali local sightseeing at a glance
- What “local” covers: Hadimba temple, Old Manali and Manu temple, Vashisht temple and hot springs, Tibetan monastery, Club House, Van Vihar, Mall Road. Jogini Falls is an add-on walk from Vashisht.
- Time: half a day if you rush, a relaxed full day with lunch in Old Manali.
- Taxi cost (indicative 2026): ₹1,999 hatchback · ₹2,499 sedan · ₹2,999 SUV/Innova, per vehicle, not per person.
- Separate day trips: Solang Valley (13 km), Atal Tunnel + Sissu (about 40 km), Naggar (about 20 km), Kullu–Manikaran–Kasol, and Rohtang Pass (51 km, summer only, permit needed).
- In November–March: Rohtang is shut for winter; Solang and Sissu are where the snow is.
- Who drives: sightseeing inside Manali runs in Manali-registered local taxis, so a car from Delhi or Chandigarh usually waits at the hotel.

What is included in Manali local sightseeing?
When a hotel desk or taxi stand in Manali says “local sightseeing”, they mean a fixed in-town circuit, not Solang or Rohtang. The stops are close together, most within 2–4 km of Mall Road, so the day is about short drives, parking and walking.
| Stop | Distance from Mall Road | Time to keep | Why go |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hadimba Devi temple | About 2 km uphill | 45–60 min | Wooden pagoda-roofed temple built in 1553 by Raja Bahadur Singh, in the Dhungri deodar forest. |
| Old Manali and Manu temple | 2–3 km | 1–2 hours with lunch | The temple of sage Manu, after whom the town is named, and the lane of cafes below it. |
| Club House | About 2 km | 30–45 min | Indoor games and riverside play area on the Manalsu stream; easy with children. |
| Vashisht temple and hot springs | About 3 km, across the Beas | 45–60 min | Stone temple village with natural sulphur springs; separate public baths for men and women. |
| Jogini Falls (optional walk) | From the top of Vashisht village | About 1 hour each way | A waterfall reached on foot through orchards; a steady climb at the end. |
| Tibetan monastery (Gadhan Thekchhokling Gompa) | Just south of the Mall | 20–30 min | Yellow-roofed gompa with prayer wheels; a quiet stop on the way back. |
| Van Vihar | On Mall Road, by the Beas | 30 min | Deodar park along the river with a small boating pond. |
| Mall Road | Town centre | Evening | Pedestrian shopping street; Tibetan market for shawls and woollens at the north end. |
Some drivers also add the Hadimba-side Ghatotkach shrine, the Nehru Kund spring on the Solang road, or a stop at the Beas riverside for photos. Ask your driver to confirm the list before you set off, because local packages vary slightly from stand to stand.
What is the best order for a one-day Manali local sightseeing route?
Crowds, not distance, decide the order. Hadimba fills up by late morning and the Vashisht lanes jam with cars in the afternoon, so do those first and keep the Mall for the evening.
| Time | Sample 1-day local route |
|---|---|
| 8:30–9:30 | Hadimba Devi temple before the queues. Walk 20 minutes through the forest to the Old Manali side, or let the cab drive round. |
| 9:45–11:30 | Manu temple and the Old Manali lanes. Early lunch or brunch at a riverside cafe. |
| 11:45–12:30 | Club House (skip if you have no children with you). |
| 12:45–15:30 | Vashisht temple and hot springs. Fit and keen? Walk on to Jogini Falls and back (about 2 hours return). |
| 16:00–16:45 | Tibetan monastery near the Mall. |
| 17:00 onwards | Van Vihar by the river, then Mall Road and the Tibetan market. Cab released. |
Families with small children or older parents should drop Jogini and add a slow hour at Van Vihar. Couples who like walking can do most of this circuit on foot and use the cab only for Vashisht and back.
How much does Manali local sightseeing cost by taxi in 2026?
Sightseeing inside Manali is run by local, Manali-registered taxis at union rates, which are fixed per vehicle for each standard route. These are the indicative 2026 rates printed on our Manali taxi service page; the exact figure is confirmed on your quote.
| Trip from Manali (full day) | Hatchback | Sedan | SUV / Innova |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manali local sightseeing | ₹1,999 | ₹2,499 | ₹2,999 |
| Solang Valley | ₹1,999 | ₹2,499 | ₹2,999 |
| Atal Tunnel + Sissu | ₹2,999 | ₹3,499 | ₹4,999 |
| Rohtang Pass (summer, with permit day) | ₹3,999 | ₹4,999 | ₹6,999 |
| Naggar castle and Jana waterfall | On quote | ||
| Kullu, Manikaran and Kasol | On quote | ||
What these fares do not include: the Rohtang permit (about ₹550 per vehicle), parking, ropeway and activity tickets, and snow clothing on rent. Fares climb on peak dates such as May–June weekends, Christmas–New Year and long weekends. A cheap quote that drops you at a barrier short of the snow point is not a bargain, so ask where exactly the cab will go.
Split four ways in a sedan, a local sightseeing day works out to roughly ₹625 a head, which is why most families simply take a cab rather than mix autos and walking.
Which day trips from Manali are not part of “local”?
Most 3–5 day Manali plans use one local day plus two or three of these. Each needs its own cab day.
| Day trip | Distance | Best months | What you do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solang Valley | 13 km, 30–45 min | All year | Gondola, snow play and beginner skiing in winter, paragliding and zorbing in spring and autumn. |
| Atal Tunnel and Sissu | About 40 km to Sissu | All year, except heavy-snow days | Drive through the 9.02 km tunnel into Lahaul; snow from December to March. |
| Naggar | About 20 km south | All year | 15th-century castle, Roerich art gallery, Jana waterfall for a village lunch. |
| Kullu, Manikaran and Kasol | About 75 km to Kasol | All year | Shawl factories, the Manikaran gurudwara and hot springs, Parvati riverside at Kasol. |
| Rohtang Pass | 51 km, about 3,978 m | Roughly May/June to October | High-pass snow in early summer; permit-only, closed on Tuesdays in the 2026 season. |
Our Solang Valley guide covers the ropeway and seasons, the Atal Tunnel and Sissu snow trip page covers the Lahaul side, and the Rohtang permit and road status page explains the quota and Tuesday rule.
Does Manali local sightseeing change with the season?
The in-town circuit runs all year. What changes is which day trips make sense around it.
- November to February: Rohtang is closed to tourist traffic for the winter. Snow seekers go to Solang and through the Atal Tunnel to Sissu instead. On heavy-snow days police may stop traffic at Solang or the tunnel for a few hours, so keep one flexible day. Vashisht’s hot water is at its best in this cold.
- March to June: peak season. Expect long jams on the Solang and Palchan road on weekends; start by 7:30 for any snow-point trip. Rohtang reopens in this window once the Border Roads Organisation clears it.
- July to mid-September: monsoon. The in-town circuit is fine, but check road status before any long day trip; landslides can close the highway towards Kullu.
- Late September to October: clear skies, apple harvest, and the Kullu Dussehra fair in October, which makes a Kullu day trip worthwhile.
For month-by-month snow odds, see our snowfall in Manali guide.
Can you do Manali local sightseeing without a taxi?
Partly. Hadimba, Old Manali, Club House, Van Vihar and Mall Road are all walkable for fit visitors, though the climbs are real at about 2,000 m. Vashisht is across the river and is easier by auto-rickshaw or cab. Plan on walking if you are a couple or a small group of friends; take a cab if you have children, parents or snow gear to carry.
If you are travelling in your own car or a cab hired from Delhi or Chandigarh, expect the local circuit to be done in a Manali taxi. Outside vehicles can drive in town, but drivers’ unions run the sightseeing routes, and arguments at taxi stands are a waste of a holiday morning. Most packages simply rest the outstation cab on the local day.
How many days do you need for Manali sightseeing?

| 4 days | Add Naggar and Jana, or Kullu–Manikaran–Kasol. |
| 5 days | All of the above with one spare day for weather, rafting or paragliding. |

What this means for your trip
Treat Manali local sightseeing as one easy day, not the whole holiday. Start at Hadimba before 9, lunch in Old Manali, soak at Vashisht in the afternoon and end on Mall Road. Book Solang, Sissu and Naggar as separate days, and in winter keep one flexible day for the snow-point trip so a road closure doesn’t cost you the snow. If you are reaching Manali by road, our Delhi to Manali taxi and Chandigarh to Manali taxi pages list the outstation fares.
Manali local sightseeing: frequently asked questions
What places are covered in Manali local sightseeing?
The standard local circuit covers Hadimba Devi temple, Manu temple and Old Manali, Club House, Vashisht temple and hot springs, the Tibetan monastery, Van Vihar and Mall Road. Jogini Falls is an optional walk from Vashisht. Solang Valley, Atal Tunnel, Naggar and Rohtang are separate day trips.
How much is a taxi for Manali local sightseeing?
On our published 2026 rates, a full day of Manali local sightseeing is about ₹1,999 in a hatchback, ₹2,499 in a sedan and ₹2,999 in an SUV or Innova, for the whole vehicle. Parking, tickets and peak-date surcharges are extra. The final fare is confirmed on your quote.
Can Manali local sightseeing be done in half a day?
Yes, if you skip Jogini Falls and Club House. Hadimba, Manu temple, Vashisht and the monastery fit into about 4 hours. A full day is more relaxed and leaves time for lunch in Old Manali and an evening on Mall Road.
Is Solang Valley part of Manali local sightseeing?
No. Solang Valley is 13 km from Manali and is booked as its own trip, usually a half or full day, with a separate taxi fare. It is often combined with the Atal Tunnel and Sissu on winter days when the road is open.
Is Rohtang Pass open in November?
No. Rohtang closes to tourist traffic for the winter, usually from October or November, and reopens around May or June once the road is cleared. In winter, go to Solang Valley or through the Atal Tunnel to Sissu for snow, and check road status the night before.
Can I use my Delhi cab for Manali local sightseeing?
Usually the local circuit and snow-point trips are done in Manali-registered local taxis, which run the sightseeing routes at union rates. Your outstation cab rests on those days. Ask your operator to include local taxi days in the quote so there are no surprises at the stand.
What is the best time of day for Hadimba temple?
Before 9 in the morning. The temple opens early and the deodar forest is quiet then; by late morning there are long queues and photo stalls. Visiting early also frees the afternoon for Vashisht and the evening for Mall Road.
