Short answer: A Rajasthan trip costs roughly ₹2,500–₹3,500 per person per day on a tight budget, ₹5,000–₹8,000 in the standard band (three-star hotels, private car shared by two), and ₹12,000–₹25,000+ in the deluxe band with heritage or palace hotels. That puts a 3-day Jaipur trip at about ₹8,000–₹24,000, a 5-day two-or-three-city trip at ₹14,000–₹40,000, and a 7-day circuit at ₹20,000–₹55,000 per person, before flights from your home city. Peak dates (20 December–5 January) add 25–50% to hotels.
Quick answer (checked 30 October 2026)
- 3 days (Jaipur): about ₹8,000 budget · ₹15,000 standard · ₹24,000+ deluxe per person.
- 5 days (Jaipur + Jodhpur + Jaisalmer, or Jaipur + Udaipur): about ₹14,000 · ₹25,000 · ₹40,000+.
- 7 days (full circuit): about ₹20,000 · ₹35,000 · ₹55,000+.
- Car with driver: roughly ₹2,800–₹3,500 a day for a sedan and ₹4,000–₹5,500 for an Innova-class SUV, all-inclusive for about 250 km a day, in our experience; confirm what is included.

How much does a Rajasthan trip cost per person?
The table below is our working estimate for the November–February 2026-27 season, per person, assuming two people travelling together and sharing a room and a car. It covers hotels, transport within Rajasthan, monument fees, food and a desert camp night where relevant. It excludes the flight or train from your home city, shopping and tips. Solo travellers should add about 40–60% because the room and the car are not shared; families of four in one car and two rooms usually land 10–15% below the per-person figures shown.
| Trip | Budget (hostels/guesthouses, bus and train) | Standard (3-star, shared car and driver) | Deluxe (heritage/4–5 star, SUV) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 days / 2 nights, Jaipur only | ₹7,000–₹9,000 | ₹13,000–₹17,000 | ₹22,000–₹40,000 |
| 5 days / 4 nights, Jaipur–Jodhpur–Jaisalmer | ₹13,000–₹16,000 | ₹22,000–₹28,000 | ₹38,000–₹65,000 |
| 5 days / 4 nights, Jaipur–Pushkar–Udaipur | ₹12,000–₹15,000 | ₹21,000–₹27,000 | ₹40,000–₹70,000 |
| 7 days / 6 nights, Jaipur–Jodhpur–Jaisalmer–Udaipur | ₹18,000–₹23,000 | ₹32,000–₹40,000 | ₹55,000–₹1,00,000 |
These are our planning ranges from quoting Rajasthan trips, not published tariffs; a hotel’s rate on a Saturday in December can be double its rate on a Tuesday in February. Use the breakdowns below to adjust for your own choices. For a day-by-day version of the 5-day trips, see our Rajasthan 5-day trip plan.
What do hotels cost in Rajasthan?
Hotels are the biggest variable. Rajasthan has an unusually wide spread because so much of the stock is converted havelis, forts and palaces. Broad per-night bands for a double room in season, in our experience:
- Hostels and budget guesthouses: ₹600–₹1,500 per bed or ₹1,200–₹2,500 per double room. Plentiful in Jaipur’s Bani Park, Jodhpur’s old city below the fort, inside Jaisalmer Fort (though staying inside the fort strains its drainage, and we steer guests to the town below) and Udaipur’s Lal Ghat.
- Three-star and small heritage havelis: ₹2,500–₹5,500 per double room with breakfast. This is the band most Indian families book and the one our standard packages use.
- Four-star and larger heritage hotels: ₹6,000–₹12,000.
- Palace hotels and luxury chains: ₹15,000–₹50,000 and far beyond; Umaid Bhawan in Jodhpur, the Taj Lake Palace and Oberoi Udaivilas in Udaipur and Suryagarh outside Jaisalmer are the well-known names, and we mention them only as reference points, not partners.
Two practical notes. First, Udaipur’s lake-view premium is real: the same room facing the lane instead of Lake Pichola can be 30–40% cheaper. Second, the Christmas–New Year surcharge (20 December–5 January) is typically 25–50% on three-star hotels and more on heritage properties, and many add a compulsory gala dinner on 24 and 31 December. Our heritage tour package cost guide goes deeper on the palace-hotel end.
What does transport cost in Rajasthan?
| Item | Typical cost (Oct 2026) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Private sedan with driver, outstation | about ₹2,800–₹3,500 per day | Usually includes about 250 km a day, fuel and driver; tolls, parking and state taxes often extra. Check. |
| Innova Crysta or similar SUV with driver | about ₹4,000–₹5,500 per day | Right for 4–6 people with luggage |
| Delhi → Jaipur, 12015 Shatabdi CC | roughly ₹1,000–₹1,300 | Dynamic fares; check IRCTC for your date |
| Delhi → Jaipur, RSRTC/AC bus | from about ₹300 | 5–6 h; premium sleepers cost more (ixigo listings, Oct 2026) |
| Overnight train 3A (e.g. Jaisalmer → Jaipur Leelan Express) | roughly ₹1,200–₹1,600 | Saves a hotel night; book 60 days out |
| City auto-rickshaw, short hop | ₹80–₹200 | Agree the fare first or use an app |
| Full-day local sightseeing car in one city | about ₹2,000–₹3,000 | 8 hours / 80 km is the usual basis |
Car rates are our own working figures for the 2026-27 season and move with fuel prices; train fares are approximate because Indian Railways uses dynamic pricing on premium trains. Train timetables and class differences are explained in our guide to Indian train classes. For how the routes from Delhi compare, see Rajasthan tour packages from Delhi.
What do monument entry fees cost for Indians?
Rajasthan raised fees at its state-run monuments on 1 January 2026. For Indian visitors, Amer Fort is now ₹200 (it was ₹100), and Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, Nahargarh Fort and Albert Hall Museum are ₹100 each; students pay ₹50 and the composite ticket is now valid for 10 days (Zee News Rajasthan, checked 30 October 2026; the composite price itself was not published in that report, so check at the counter). Jaipur’s City Palace is privately run and charges separately; expect several hundred rupees for the museum ticket.
Elsewhere: Mehrangarh in Jodhpur is ₹200 for Indian adults, open 09:00–17:00 (CaptureATrip 2026 guide). Udaipur City Palace Museum is ₹300 for Indian adults and ₹100 for children aged 5–18, with the Crystal Gallery a separate ₹550 (EaseIndiaTrip, updated December 2025). Kumbhalgarh Fort is ₹40 for Indians (CaptureATrip). Jaisalmer Fort itself is free to enter; the palace museum inside is ₹50 and Patwon ki Haveli about ₹50–₹100 depending on sections (Triveni Cabs guide). The Dharohar dance show at Bagore ki Haveli in Udaipur is ₹90 for Indian adults at 19:00 (Swagachi). Dilwara temples at Mount Abu are free.
Adding it up, a person seeing the main sights in all four cities over a week spends about ₹1,200–₹1,800 on tickets, plus ₹200–₹500 for audio guides or a licensed guide at one or two forts. It is a small line in the budget, which is why we tell guests not to skip Mehrangarh or the Udaipur palace to save money. Our Jaipur tourist places and Udaipur tourist places guides list the fees sight by sight.
What does a Jaisalmer desert camp cost?
A night at a Sam or Khuri dunes camp is the one Rajasthan expense that behaves like a festival ticket. Standard Swiss tents with attached bathroom, dinner, breakfast, a camel ride and the evening folk programme run roughly ₹2,500–₹4,000 per person in November, January and February, ₹4,000–₹6,000 in December weekends, and anything from ₹8,000 to ₹20,000 per person on 31 December. Luxury camps with air-conditioned tents and private dining are a different market again.
Since the 2026 rules, many camps accept only families and couples and the open dunes are restricted after sunset (Patrika, 2 December 2025; see our guide to the Sam dunes sunset rules). Jeep safaris (about ₹1,500–₹2,500 per jeep for a short run) and parasailing or quad bikes at the dunes are extras and are negotiable. Our Jaisalmer desert camp guide explains what to look for, and Jaisalmer in December covers the peak-month pricing.
How much should you budget for food and extras?
Food is cheap relative to hotels. A thali or dal-baati-churma at a local restaurant is ₹150–₹300; a rooftop dinner with a fort view in Jodhpur or Jaisalmer is ₹500–₹900 per person; a meal at a heritage hotel is ₹1,500–₹3,000. Budget ₹600–₹1,000 a day for standard travel. Chokhi Dhani near Jaipur, the ethnic village with dinner, charges a few hundred to around a thousand rupees per adult depending on the package; check the current rate before you go.
Shopping is where budgets quietly double. Blue pottery and block prints in Jaipur, bandhani in Jodhpur, camel-leather goods and patchwork in Jaisalmer and miniature paintings in Udaipur are all good buys, but fixed-price government emporia are the benchmark for what the bazaars should cost after bargaining. Guides at forts expect ₹500–₹1,000 for a two-hour tour, and drivers on a multi-day trip are usually tipped ₹200–₹300 a day. Our step-by-step budget Rajasthan guide has more on stretching a tight budget.
How can you cut the cost of a Rajasthan trip?
- Travel in late January or February rather than December; the weather is as good and hotels are 20–40% cheaper.
- Use overnight trains for the long legs (Delhi–Udaipur on the 12963 Mewar Express, Jaisalmer–Jaipur on the 12468 Leelan Express); each saves a hotel night and a day of car hire.
- Share the car. A sedan for two costs about the same as for three, and an Innova for six brings the per-head cost close to a bus.
- Stay in havelis, not palaces, and spend the difference on one special meal or the camp night.
- Buy the composite ticket in Jaipur if you plan to see four or more of the state monuments; it is now valid for 10 days.
- Avoid Saturday nights in Jaipur and Udaipur, which carry a weekend premium from Delhi, Ahmedabad and Mumbai traffic.
Our own Rajasthan packages, including the Royal Rajasthan tour and the 3 nights 4 days Rajasthan vacation, are priced on request because the hotel band changes the total so much. Send your dates and we will quote a per-person price with inclusions listed; a 20% token confirms and the balance is due before departure.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a Rajasthan trip cost for a couple?
For a couple sharing a room and a car in the November–February season, budget about ₹26,000–₹32,000 total for 3 days in Jaipur, ₹44,000–₹56,000 for 5 days across two or three cities, and ₹65,000–₹80,000 for a 7-day circuit, all in three-star hotels. Heritage hotels roughly double those figures. Add flights or trains from your home city.
How much does a Rajasthan trip cost for a family of 4?
A family of four in two rooms and one Innova-class SUV usually spends about ₹80,000–₹1,10,000 for 5 days and ₹1,10,000–₹1,50,000 for 7 days in three-star hotels during the season, excluding travel from home. Children under 5 enter most monuments free and under-18s pay reduced rates at Udaipur City Palace. The SUV costs little more per head than a sedan for two.
What is the cheapest way to see Rajasthan?
Trains and RSRTC buses between cities, hostel beds or budget guesthouses at ₹600–₹1,500 a night, local thalis at ₹150–₹300 and auto-rickshaws in town. A 5-day Jaipur–Jodhpur–Jaisalmer trip can be done for about ₹12,000–₹15,000 per person this way, including a basic dunes camp night. Travel in late January or February for the lowest hotel rates.
How much are entry fees in Rajasthan for Indians?
Since 1 January 2026, Amer Fort is ₹200 and Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, Nahargarh and Albert Hall are ₹100 each for Indian adults. Mehrangarh is ₹200, Udaipur City Palace Museum ₹300, Kumbhalgarh ₹40 and Jaisalmer Fort free (palace museum ₹50). Seeing the main sights in all four cities costs about ₹1,200–₹1,800 per person in tickets.
How much does a car with driver cost in Rajasthan?
In our experience a sedan with driver for a multi-day trip costs about ₹2,800–₹3,500 a day and an Innova-class SUV ₹4,000–₹5,500, usually including fuel, the driver and about 250 km a day, with tolls, parking and state taxes sometimes extra. A full-day local car in one city is about ₹2,000–₹3,000 for 8 hours. Always get inclusions in writing.
Is Rajasthan expensive during Christmas and New Year?
Yes. Between 20 December and 5 January, three-star hotels typically add 25–50%, heritage hotels more, and many impose compulsory gala dinners on 24 and 31 December. Sam dunes camps can charge ₹8,000–₹20,000 per person on New Year’s Eve against ₹2,500–₹4,000 in January. Trains sell out weeks ahead. Travel in the first three weeks of December or in late January to avoid it.
