A Himachal family tour package with Suzu Travels is a private-car hill trip paced for the youngest and oldest person in the car: one vehicle and driver for the whole trip, breakfast and dinner at the hotels, short sightseeing days and a plan you can change on the road. Family trips start from ₹12,499 per person for Shimla and Manali from Chandigarh (5 nights), ₹14,499 from Delhi with four people sharing the car, and ₹14,500 for the gentler Dharamshala–Dalhousie circuit from Pathankot — twin sharing, deluxe hotels, off-season. Tell us your children’s ages and we quote the right rooms and extra beds instead of guessing.

Updated: November 2026

  • First family trip: Shimla and Manali from Chandigarh, 5N/6D, from ₹12,499 per person.

  • With grandparents or small children: Dharamshala and Dalhousie from Pathankot, from ₹14,500; the first drive is only about 3 hours.
  • One car throughout: sedan for up to 4; Ertiga, Carens or Innova Crysta for 5–7.
  • Cheapest family window: 1 November–19 December — off-season rates and quiet Mall Roads; peak dates cost 25% more.

All circuits are on our Himachal tour packages page.

Which start city suits your family?

The hills are the same; what changes is how long the youngest and oldest spend on the plains. Count the long driving days, not the sights.

Start How you get there First hill drive Best for
Chandigarh Morning Shatabdi or a flight; our car meets you About 4 hours to Shimla Lowest price; least plains driving on the Shimla–Manali loop
Delhi Our car picks you up at home or hotel A long day up to Shimla Families of four who want door-to-door (the Delhi rate assumes four share the car)
Pathankot Overnight train from Delhi, arriving in the morning About 3 hours to Dharamshala Grandparents, small children, anyone who gets car-sick on long hill roads

If anyone in the family gets car-sick, pick the Pathankot start and tell the driver on day one so he plans more stops. The full eight-trip comparison, including a darshan trip for elders, is on our Himachal tour package for family page.

Sample itinerary: Shimla and Manali with the family (6 days)

This is the day plan of the Shimla Manali trip from Chandigarh, from ₹12,499 per person — one hotel-change every two nights, and only one long driving day.

Day Plan Night
Day 1 Pickup in Chandigarh, about 4 hours up to Shimla. Evening on the Mall Road. Shimla
Day 2 Kufri in the morning (Himalayan views, the zoo); Jakhu temple and the Viceregal Lodge after lunch. Shimla
Day 3 The long day: Shimla to Manali, 7–8 hours through Mandi and Kullu, with stops at the Kullu shawl factories and the Beas river. Manali
Day 4 Manali local: Hadimba Devi temple, Vashisht hot springs, the Tibetan monastery; evening in Old Manali. Manali
Day 5 Full day at Solang Valley for snow and activities (paid locally); optional Rohtang visit, subject to permit. Manali
Day 6 Breakfast and the drive back to Chandigarh for your train or flight. —

For a Manali-first plan with children’s ages in mind — pony rides, river walks, which activities have age and weight minimums — see our Manali family tour package page. If the family prefers quieter hills, the Dharamshala Dalhousie tour package swaps the 7–8 hour transfer for a 4–5 hour one and adds the Khajjiar meadow day.

What a family actually pays

  • The rates are per person on twin sharing — two people to a room. A family of four can take two rooms at the table rate, or one room with extra beds or a family room, which is often cheaper for parents with young children but depends on the hotel and your dates.
  • Children’s ages decide the price. Tell us each child’s age and we quote extra beds and child rates exactly, instead of charging everyone as an adult.
  • One car for everyone. The base rates use a sedan; families of 5–7 travel in an Ertiga, Carens or Innova Crysta, which changes the quote slightly but keeps the family together.
  • Peak maths is simple: a trip shown at ₹12,499 off-season is priced 25% higher on peak dates (15 March–30 June, October, 20 December–5 January). If the school break allows travel between 1 November and 19 December, you get off-season rates and quiet Mall Roads.

What is included and what is not

Included Not included
Hotel nights as listed (deluxe; upgrades on request) Train or flight tickets to the start city
Daily breakfast and dinner at the hotels Lunch, snacks and drinks
Private AC car with driver for all transfers and sightseeing Entry tickets and activity charges (zoo, rides, Solang activities)
Fuel, tolls, parking, state permits and driver allowance Rohtang permit and local union taxi charges, where applicable
Sightseeing as per the day plan Room heater charges, laundry, tips

This follows the inclusion and exclusion lists on the package pages above. On hill climbs the AC stays off, as every Himachal package policy states — carry water and motion-sickness tablets for the children.

Best time for a family trip to Himachal

Months What families get
15 March–June School summer holidays; everything open; peak rates (+25%) and busy Mall Roads. Book early.
July–mid-September Monsoon: green but wet, with landslide risk on hill roads. The weakest window for a family trip.
October Dussehra–Diwali break: clear skies but peak pricing again.
1 November–19 December Off-season rates, clear mountain views, quiet sightseeing — our pick if the school calendar allows.
20 December–February Snow for the children in Manali, Kufri and Dalhousie; Christmas–New Year is peak; roads to Solang can close after snowfall.

Nobody can promise snow on a given date. Planning Kashmir instead of Himachal with the family? Our Kashmir family tour package page is the sibling of this one, with houseboat and gondola notes for children and grandparents.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Himachal family tour package cost?
From ₹12,499 per person for Shimla and Manali from Chandigarh (5 nights, twin sharing, deluxe hotels, off-season). From Delhi the same circuit is ₹14,499 per person with four people sharing the car, and the 9-day four-hill-station trip is from ₹18,999. Peak dates cost 25% more.

Which Himachal trip is best for a family with small children or grandparents?
Dharamshala and Dalhousie from Pathankot, from ₹14,500. The drives are short — about 3 hours from Pathankot to Dharamshala and about 4 to Dalhousie — against the 7–8 hour Shimla–Manali transfer.

How is the trip priced for children?
Rates are per person on twin sharing. Children usually travel on extra beds or in a family room at a child rate, which depends on their ages and the hotel. Send the ages with your dates and the quote shows the exact room plan.

Can 5, 6 or 7 of us travel in one vehicle?
Yes. The base rates use a sedan for up to four; larger families get an Ertiga, Carens or Innova Crysta so everyone stays in one car with one driver for the whole trip.

Is the package private or a group tour?
Private. Your family has its own car and driver, and the pace is yours: start late, stop for food, skip a sight — the plan adjusts on the road.

When is Himachal cheapest for families?
Between 1 November and 19 December, and again 6 January to 14 March: off-season rates apply, hotels and Mall Roads are quiet, and winter views are clear. The summer break (15 March–30 June), October and Christmas–New Year are peak, priced 25% higher.

Will the children see snow?
December to February is the most likely window — Solang Valley near Manali, Kufri near Shimla and Dalhousie are the usual snow points. Snow on a specific date can never be promised, and roads to the snow points can close for a day after heavy snowfall.

Are meals included?
Breakfast and dinner at the hotels are included on every trip; lunch on the road is not, which suits families who like to stop where the children want.

What is not in the package price?
Train or flight tickets to the start city, lunches, entry tickets and activity charges (zoo, rides, Solang activities, Rohtang permit where it applies), room heaters in winter, laundry and tips.
