Kasol Trip Plan: How to Reach, 3-Day Itinerary and Cost (2026)

A practical Kasol trip plan: overnight bus or Chandigarh cab, a 3-day itinerary covering Chalal, Tosh and Manikaran, real 2026 costs, and the best time to go.

The simplest Kasol trip plan is three days on the ground: take an overnight Volvo from Delhi (about 520 km, 10 to 12 hours) or a morning cab from Chandigarh (280 km, 7 to 8 hours), spend day one in Kasol and Chalal, day two on a Tosh day trip, and day three at Manikaran before heading back. Budget travellers spend roughly ₹6,000 to ₹9,000 per person for that trip from Delhi; a private cab and a good riverside room push it to ₹15,000 and up. October and early November are the best months right now: clear days, cold nights, and far fewer people than May.

That is the short answer. The rest of this guide is what we tell people who call us before a Parvati Valley trip: how to actually get there, what each day looks like, what things cost in 2026, and the handful of mistakes that turn a good Kasol trip into a long, cold, expensive one.

Where Kasol is, and why it is not “near Manali”

Kasol sits at about 1,580 m on the Parvati river in Kullu district. It is not on the Manali road. You leave the Kullu–Manali highway at Bhuntar (where the Kullu airport is) and drive about 31 km up the narrow Parvati Valley road. Manikaran is another 4 km beyond Kasol, and the road continues to Barshaini, the trailhead for Tosh and Kheerganga.

From Kasol, Manali is roughly 80 km and three hours away, because you have to drive back down to Bhuntar first. Many people plan “Manali and Kasol in two days” and spend most of it in a car. If you want both, give Kasol at least two nights of its own.

How to reach Kasol

From Delhi: the overnight bus is still the best value

Most travellers take an overnight Volvo from Delhi. HRTC and private operators run evening departures from ISBT Kashmere Gate and Majnu ka Tila; some go all the way to Kasol, others drop you at Bhuntar, where local buses and shared taxis cover the last 31 km. Expect 11 to 13 hours depending on traffic at the Mandi end. Book the seat a few days ahead for Friday departures in October and November, and confirm whether the ticket says “Kasol” or “Bhuntar”.

From Chandigarh: a cab makes sense

From Chandigarh, the drive is about 280 km via the Kiratpur–Nerchowk four-lane and Mandi, and takes 7 to 8 hours. A one-way Chandigarh to Kasol taxi starts around ₹4,399 in a sedan on our current fare list. Leave by 6 or 7 am. Our drivers do not run the hill sections late at night, and you do not want to meet the Parvati Valley road for the first time in the dark.

By air and rail

Kullu–Manali Airport at Bhuntar is about 31 km from Kasol, but flights are few, the runway is short, and cancellations in bad weather are routine. Treat a flight as a bonus, not a plan. There is no useful railhead nearby. Chandigarh is the practical rail station, and from there it is the cab or a bus.

Driving your own car

Fine for confident hill drivers. Two things catch people out. First, Himachal charges an entry fee at the border; cars and vehicles up to 12 seats pay ₹100 a day under the rates revised on 31 March 2026 (details in our Himachal entry tax and permits guide). Second, the road beyond Manikaran to Barshaini is narrow and landslide-prone; drive it in daylight and expect to reverse for buses.

A 3-day Kasol itinerary that works

This plan assumes you arrive in the morning off an overnight bus from Delhi. If you are coming by cab from Chandigarh, you arrive in the afternoon; just shift the Chalal walk to that evening.

Day 1: Kasol and Chalal

Check in, sleep for two hours, and do not try to trek on the day you arrive. In the afternoon, cross the footbridge behind the Kasol market and walk the riverside trail to Chalal, about 30 to 45 minutes each way through pine forest. Chalal is quieter than Kasol and has small cafes and guesthouses. Come back before dark; the trail is unlit. Spend the evening in the Kasol market cafes. This is the Kasol people come for.

Day 2: Tosh day trip

Take the morning bus or a taxi to Barshaini, about 16 km and under an hour up the valley, then walk or ride the last stretch up to Tosh, a village of wooden houses facing a wall of snow peaks. It is roughly 20 km from Kasol in total. Start by 9 am, have lunch in Tosh, and be back in Kasol by evening. In October you will have snow on the peaks behind the village; by late November the village itself can get its first snowfall.

If your group would rather do an overnight trek, this is the day you would swap for the Kheerganga trail from Barshaini. It is a proper trek, not a walk, and our adventure team handles guides, gear and campsites for it.

Day 3: Manikaran, then home

Manikaran is 4 km from Kasol. Go in the morning to the Manikaran Sahib gurudwara and the Shiva temple beside it, both built around natural hot springs. The gurudwara runs a langar, and you will see rice being cooked in the hot spring pools. Cover your head inside. Back in Kasol by noon for lunch, then catch the evening Volvo, or start the cab drive to Chandigarh early enough to clear the hills in daylight.

If you have five days

Add Kasol to Manali rather than cramming both. Two nights in Kasol, then drive to Manali for three nights: Old Manali, Solang and the Atal Tunnel. Our 5 nights 6 days Himachal tour page shows how we pace that circuit, and couples can look at the Manali and Kasol option on our Manali honeymoon package.

Kasol trip cost in 2026

These are the rates travellers are actually paying in 2026, per person, for a 3-day trip from Delhi. Hotels and hostels move prices every weekend, so treat these as ranges, not quotes.

Item Budget Comfortable
Delhi–Kasol return travel Volvo bus, both ways Private cab shared by 3–4 people
Stay, per night Hostel dorm ₹350–500 off-season, ₹800–1,200 in peak Guesthouse ₹1,000–2,000; riverside camp ₹1,500–2,500
Food, per day ₹600–800 at dhabas and small cafes ₹1,200 and up at the popular cafes
Local travel (Barshaini, Manikaran) Local HRTC buses Taxi for the day
Typical total, 3 days ₹6,000–9,000 ₹15,000 and up

Groups change the maths. Six to twelve people sharing a Tempo Traveller often pay less per head than Volvo plus local taxis, and they get door-to-door timing. Our Tempo Traveller hire from Delhi page lists the Delhi to Kasol fare.

Best time to visit Kasol

  • March to June: the busiest season. Pleasant days, every hostel full on weekends, and the Kheerganga trail crowded. May is the peak month.
  • July to mid-September: monsoon. The Parvati Valley road and the road beyond Manikaran get landslides; treks are risky. Go only if you are flexible.
  • Mid-September to mid-November: our pick. Clear skies, typically warm days around 18 to 22°C in early October, nights dropping towards 5°C, apple season in the orchards, and noticeably cheaper stays on weekdays.
  • December to February: cold and quiet. Tosh gets snow most winters and Kasol sometimes does. Many cafes shut, and the higher villages can be cut off after heavy snowfall.

This October specifically: the India Meteorological Department expects the first autumn rain and high-altitude snow over Himachal between 6 and 9 October; our Himachal weather update has the day-by-day forecast. And Kullu Dussehra runs from 21 to 27 October, which jams the Bhuntar–Kullu stretch you have to pass through. Either come before it, or plan your drive times around it using our Kullu Dussehra 2026 guide.

Things to know before you go

  • Carry cash from Bhuntar. Kasol has ATMs, but they run dry on weekends. UPI works in most cafes, not on the trails.
  • Mobile network: Jio and BSNL work best in the valley. Expect nothing on the trail beyond Barshaini.
  • Pack for cold nights. Even in October you need a proper jacket after sunset; in November add thermals and a woollen cap.
  • Malana is not a casual detour. The village has strict customs: do not touch walls, temples, people or their belongings, and stay on the marked path. Many visitors are better off skipping it.
  • Drugs are illegal, full stop. Kasol’s reputation does not change the law. Possession of cannabis or charas is an offence under the NDPS Act, the police do check, and “everyone does it” is not a defence anyone has used successfully.
  • Solo travellers: the Kasol market area is busy and generally safe. Do not walk the Chalal trail or forest paths after dark, and tell your guesthouse where you are going for the day.

Kasol trip FAQ

How many days are enough for Kasol?

Three days on the ground is right for most people: one day for Kasol and Chalal, one for Tosh, and one for Manikaran. Two days works if you skip Tosh. Add two more if you want an overnight trek to Kheerganga.

Is Kasol good for families?

Yes, if you choose your stay carefully. Pick a guesthouse or hotel slightly away from the market or in Manikaran, and plan the Chalal walk and Manikaran gurudwara rather than the cafe scene. The Tosh walk is manageable for most children over eight.

Can I do Kasol and Manali in the same trip?

Yes, but not in two days. Kasol to Manali is about 80 km and three hours because you drive back to Bhuntar first. Give Kasol two nights and Manali two or three nights.

Does it snow in Kasol?

Sometimes, between late December and February, but not reliably. Tosh, higher up the valley, gets snow most winters. For guaranteed snow, combine Kasol with Manali, Solang or the Atal Tunnel.

How much does a Kasol trip cost from Delhi?

About ₹6,000 to ₹9,000 per person for three days on a budget (Volvo bus, hostel or basic guesthouse, cafe food). A private cab and a riverside room take it to ₹15,000 or more per person.

What is the nearest airport and railway station to Kasol?

The nearest airport is Kullu–Manali Airport at Bhuntar, about 31 km away, with limited flights that often cancel in bad weather. The practical railway station is Chandigarh, about 280 km away.
