Short answer: The Kerala honeymoon package that works for most couples is 6 days / 5 nights: Kochi (1 night) – Munnar (2 nights) – Thekkady (1 night) – a private Alleppey houseboat (1 night) – Kochi. Our Kerala Honeymoon Special runs exactly this with a private AC sedan, 4-star hotels and the houseboat with meals for ₹22,500 per person in the off-season band. With only 5 days, drop Thekkady; with 7, add Kovalam or Marari beach.

Why is Kerala a good honeymoon choice from north India?
Kerala gives a honeymoon three different settings in one state and within 160 km of each other: a misty tea hill station, a forest lake and a night on a private houseboat. From Delhi it is a 3-hour flight into Kochi; from Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad under 2 hours, or an overnight train. Unlike Himachal in December, nothing closes for snow, and unlike Goa the crowds are spread out rather than concentrated on one beach strip.
In our experience the couples who enjoy Kerala most are the ones who resist adding destinations. Six days with four stops is already a lot of car time; the honeymooners who try to include Wayanad or Kovalam in the same six days spend their honeymoon looking at the back of the driver’s head. The plans below keep driving to under five hours on any day and give Munnar two nights, because it is the place couples want to linger.
If you are still choosing between hills and beaches for your honeymoon, our honeymoon trip hub compares Kerala with Himachal, Kashmir and Goa, and the budget honeymoon guide covers how to keep the bill down without a backpacker trip.
What is the 6-day Kerala honeymoon itinerary?
| Day | Route | Highlights | Night |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Arrive Kochi; airport to Fort Kochi about 40 km | Sunset at the Chinese fishing nets, Fort Kochi lanes, Marine Drive walk | Kochi, 4-star |
| 2 | Kochi → Munnar, about 130 km, 3.5–4 h | Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls, check-in at a tea-estate resort, Pothamedu sunset | Munnar, 4-star |
| 3 | Munnar sightseeing, 60–80 km | Eravikulam National Park (07:30–16:00), Mattupetty Dam, Echo Point, tea-garden walk; candle-light dinner | Munnar, 4-star |
| 4 | Munnar → Thekkady, about 110 km, 3.5 h | Periyar Lake boat ride (optional, ₹450 KTDC slots), spice plantation walk, Kathakali or Kalaripayattu show | Thekkady, 4-star |
| 5 | Thekkady → Alleppey, about 145 km, 4 h | Private houseboat from about 12:00, backwater cruise, all meals on board, flower-bed decoration | Houseboat |
| 6 | Alleppey → Kochi, about 55 km (airport 85 km) | Breakfast on board, check-out about 09:00, drive to airport or station | – |
This is the itinerary of our Kerala Honeymoon Special. The price is ₹22,500 per person (Deluxe category) in the off-season band, 1 November to 19 December and 6 January to 14 March; peak dates (20 December to 5 January and from 15 March) are about 25% more. Included: a private AC sedan for all transfers and sightseeing, 4 nights in 4-star hotels or resorts with breakfast and dinner, 1 night on a private houseboat with lunch, dinner and breakfast, a candle-light dinner and flower-bed decoration once, fuel, tolls, parking and driver allowances. Not included: flights or trains to Kochi, entry tickets, boat rides and shows, lunches on hotel days, and personal expenses.
What does a 5-day Kerala honeymoon plan look like?
If leave is short, cut Thekkady rather than Munnar. The route becomes Kochi (1 night) → Munnar (2 nights) → Alleppey houseboat (1 night) → Kochi, with the Munnar–Alleppey drive done in one go (about 160 km, 4.5–5 hours, see Alleppey to Munnar). The day-by-day version, with distances and a cost table, is our Kerala trip plan for 5 days.
- Day 1: arrive Kochi, Fort Kochi sunset.
- Day 2: Kochi to Munnar with the waterfalls; resort evening.
- Day 3: Eravikulam, Tea Museum, Mattupetty, Echo Point, Top Station if time allows.
- Day 4: Munnar to Alleppey by 12:00; houseboat.
- Day 5: houseboat breakfast, 55 km to Ernakulam or 85 km to the airport.
We price the 5-day version on request because it depends on whether you keep the 4-star hotels; as a guide, dropping one hotel night and about 250 km of driving from the 6-day package reduces the cost by roughly a sixth.
What does a 7-day Kerala honeymoon add?
A seventh day lets you finish on a beach. From the houseboat, drive about 150 km south (3.5–4 hours) to Kovalam, or just 15 km north to Marari beach near Mararikulam, a quiet fishing-village coast with a few resorts and almost no vendors. Kovalam means two nights with the Lighthouse Beach cafés, an Ayurveda massage and a Poovar backwater boat ride, flying home from Trivandrum airport 15–20 km away. Marari means one slow day and a return to Kochi.
The 7-day structure is the one in our 7-day Kerala itinerary; for the Trivandrum end see Trivandrum tourist places. Couples who want a quieter hill stop instead of a beach can swap Thekkady for Vagamon, 100 km from Kochi with pine forests and meadows; our Vagamon tourist places guide covers it.
Which hotels and houseboats suit a honeymoon?
In Munnar, couples prefer the resorts set in the estates outside town – the Chinnakanal, Pallivasal and Devikulam clusters – with a private balcony over the tea. Well-known examples are the Tea County (KTDC), Fragrant Nature, Blanket Hotel & Spa, Parakkat Nature and the Windermere Estate; we mention them only as examples of the level, not as partners, and the package hotel is confirmed at booking. In Thekkady, Kumily resorts with plantation views (Spice Village, Cardamom County, Greenwoods) are the honeymoon standard. In Kochi, a Fort Kochi heritage hotel beats a business hotel in Ernakulam for a first evening.
For the houseboat, insist on a private one-bedroom boat, not a shared two- or three-bedroom boat, and ask whether the air-conditioning runs all night or only from 21:00 to 06:00 (most run it at night only). Premium boats with a glass-walled upper deck cost ₹12,000–₹20,000 a night and deluxe boats ₹7,000–₹12,000 (Boats n Beds rate guide, checked 30 Oct 2026); our package uses a private deluxe boat with the flower-bed decoration included. Our Alleppey houseboat guide explains routes, meals and what to check at the jetty.
When should you plan a Kerala honeymoon?
| Months | Weather | Prices and crowds | Our view |
|---|---|---|---|
| October–November | Post-monsoon green, waterfalls full, some evening showers | Off-season band from 1 Nov; moderate crowds | Best value for the wedding season after Diwali (8 Nov 2026) |
| December–January | Dry, Munnar nights 8–12°C, clear skies | Peak 20 Dec–5 Jan, about 25% more; book 6–8 weeks ahead | Best weather; avoid Christmas week if budget matters |
| February–mid March | Warm days, cool Munnar mornings | Off-season band to 14 Mar; quiet | Eravikulam shut for calving (Feb–Mar) – swap in Marayoor or Kolukkumalai |
| April–May | Hot and humid on the coast, pleasant in Munnar | School-holiday crowds in Munnar | Fine for hill-heavy plans; shorten the houseboat day |
| June–September | Monsoon, heavy rain spells, mist | Lowest rates, Ayurveda season | Romantic if you like rain; some boat rides cancelled |
Month-by-month detail is in our best time to visit Kerala guide, and Kerala in December explains the Christmas surge.
How do you book, and what does it cost in total?
For the 6-day package: a 20% token (₹4,500 per person) confirms the booking and is fully refundable if you cancel within 48 hours of paying; the balance is due before the trip. After 48 hours the advance is non-refundable but the dates can be changed once within six months, which matters for honeymoons where the wedding date moves. We accept UPI, bank transfer and cards through Razorpay. Flights are extra: Delhi–Kochi return booked a month ahead is typically ₹12,000–₹20,000 per person outside holidays, and the 12626 Kerala Express (New Delhi 20:10 → Ernakulam Town 16:30 on day 3, ConfirmTkt, checked 30 Oct 2026) is far cheaper if you have the time.
All-in for a couple on the 6-day package in the off-season band: ₹45,000 for the land part, plus flights, plus about ₹8,000–₹12,000 for entry tickets, the Periyar boat, shows, lunches and tips. Compare this with our Himachal option, the Kullu Manali honeymoon package at ₹12,999 per person for 4N/5D from Chandigarh, if you are weighing hills against backwaters; our Kerala trip cost guide breaks down what a self-planned trip would cost at each hotel level.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a Kerala honeymoon package cost?
Our Kerala Honeymoon Special is ₹22,500 per person for 6 days / 5 nights in the Deluxe category during the off-season band (1 November–19 December and 6 January–14 March), about 25% more at peak. That is ₹45,000 per couple for a private AC sedan, 4-star hotels and a private houseboat with meals, excluding flights, entry tickets and lunches on hotel days.
How many days are enough for a Kerala honeymoon?
Six days is the sweet spot: one night in Kochi, two in Munnar, one in Thekkady and one on a houseboat, with no driving day over five hours. Five days works if you drop Thekkady. Seven days lets you finish with a beach at Kovalam or Marari. Beyond that, add Ayurveda days in Kovalam rather than more destinations.
Which is better for a honeymoon, Munnar or Alleppey?
Do both; they are 160 km apart and complement each other. Munnar is where couples want two nights – cool mornings, tea-estate resorts with balconies, the Eravikulam and Top Station drives. Alleppey is one night on a private houseboat, which is an experience rather than a stay. Two houseboat nights are too many; a second beach or hill night is better.
What is included in the Kerala Honeymoon Special package?
A private AC sedan for all transfers and sightseeing, four nights in 4-star hotels or resorts with breakfast and dinner, one night on a private houseboat with lunch, dinner and breakfast, a candle-light dinner and flower-bed decoration once, and fuel, tolls, parking and driver allowances. Flights or trains to Kochi, entry tickets, boat rides, shows and lunches on hotel days are not included.
What is the best month for a Kerala honeymoon?
November to mid-March. November and February give the same dry weather as December at the off-season price; 20 December to 5 January is the dearest fortnight and needs booking six to eight weeks ahead. Note that Eravikulam National Park closes for the Nilgiri tahr calving season in February–March, so plan Marayoor or Kolukkumalai in Munnar instead during those weeks.
Can I change my honeymoon dates after booking?
Yes. The 20% token is fully refundable if you cancel within 48 hours of paying. After that it is non-refundable, but the travel dates can be changed once within six months of the original booking, subject to the season band; moving from the off-season band into 20 December–5 January or after 15 March adds the roughly 25% peak difference.
