Kerala Trip Cost 2026-27: Budget for 2, 4 and 6 Days (Couple, Family)

A Kerala trip cost in 2026-27, excluding flights or trains to Kochi, works out to roughly ₹2,500–₹3,500 per person per day on a budget, ₹4,500–₹7,000 per person per day at standard 3-star level with a private car, and ₹9,000–₹15,000 at deluxe resort level.

Short answer: A Kerala trip cost in 2026-27, excluding flights or trains to Kochi, works out to roughly ₹2,500–₹3,500 per person per day on a budget, ₹4,500–₹7,000 per person per day at standard 3-star level with a private car, and ₹9,000–₹15,000 at deluxe resort level. So a 4-day trip for a couple runs about ₹20,000 budget, ₹45,000 standard and ₹90,000-plus deluxe; a 6-day family trip for four is roughly ₹60,000 to ₹1.6 lakh.

Quick answer (checked 30 October 2026)

  • Per person per day, land cost: budget about ₹2,500–₹3,500; standard about ₹4,500–₹7,000; deluxe about ₹9,000–₹15,000.
  • Biggest single item: the houseboat – deluxe ₹7,000–₹12,000 a night, premium ₹12,000–₹20,000, luxury ₹20,000–₹50,000 (Boats n Beds rate guide).
  • Car with driver: roughly ₹2,800–₹3,800 a day for a sedan and ₹4,500–₹5,500 for an Innova in our quotes, fuel and driver included.
  • Buses: KSRTC Ernakulam–Munnar from about ₹188 (ixigo listing); the whole loop by bus costs under ₹1,500.
  • Entry fees are small: Eravikulam about ₹200, Tea Museum ₹75, Periyar boat about ₹450, Mattancherry Palace a few rupees.
  • Peak surcharge: 20 Dec–5 Jan and long weekends run 25–40% above these figures.
  • Fixed price we can quote: Kerala Honeymoon Special 6D/5N at ₹22,500 per person (off-season band).

What decides the cost of a Kerala trip?

Four things move the bill: the hotel band you choose, whether you take a private car or buses, how many houseboat nights you book, and the dates. Everything else – entry fees, boat rides, Kathakali tickets, meals outside the hotel – adds up to a few thousand rupees per person for a week and barely changes between a cheap and a dear trip.

In our experience the houseboat and the car are where people misjudge. A houseboat is charged per boat, not per person, so it is expensive for a solo traveller and a bargain for a family of four sharing a two-bedroom boat. A car with driver is also charged per vehicle, so the per-person cost halves when four travel instead of two. That is why the per-person figures below drop for families even though the hotel band is the same.

The figures in this guide are the ranges we see when quoting trips for the November–March season. They are estimates for planning, not fixed rates; the only fixed prices on this page are our own packages.

Transport per day KSRTC buses and local jeeps, about ₹300–₹600 per person Sedan with driver, roughly ₹2,800–₹3,800 per car Innova Crysta with driver, roughly ₹4,500–₹5,500 per car
Houseboat per night (one bedroom, meals included) shared or day cruise, about ₹1,000–₹2,000 per person deluxe private boat, about ₹7,000–₹12,000 per boat premium/luxury boat, about ₹12,000–₹30,000 per boat

How much does a 2-day Kerala trip cost?

Two days means one destination. From Kochi the realistic choices are a Munnar overnight (130 km each way) or an Alleppey houseboat night (55 km). Most Bengaluru and Chennai travellers do this as a long-weekend trip arriving by overnight train.

  • Budget couple, Munnar by bus: KSRTC Ernakulam–Munnar from about ₹188 each way (ixigo, checked 30 Oct 2026), a homestay at about ₹2,000, a shared jeep day for the Top Station loop at about ₹500 per person, Eravikulam at about ₹200. Roughly ₹7,000–₹9,000 for two.
  • Standard couple, Alleppey houseboat: sedan Kochi–Alleppey–Kochi about ₹5,000–₹6,000 for the two days, deluxe houseboat ₹9,000–₹12,000, one Kochi hotel night ₹4,500. Roughly ₹20,000–₹24,000 for two.
  • Deluxe couple, Munnar resort: Innova two days about ₹10,000, one night at a 4-star tea-estate resort ₹12,000–₹18,000 with meals, entries and tips ₹2,000. Roughly ₹25,000–₹32,000 for two.

Our Munnar trip plan for 2 days lays out the hour-by-hour version.

How much does a 4-day Kerala trip cost?

Four days buys Kochi (1 night) – Munnar (1–2 nights) – Alleppey houseboat (1 night), the route we describe in the 5-day Kerala trip plan with one Munnar night trimmed.

4 days / 3 nights, land cost Budget Standard Deluxe
Couple (2 adults) about ₹16,000–₹22,000 about ₹38,000–₹50,000 about ₹75,000–₹1.1 lakh
Family (2 adults + 2 children under 12) about ₹24,000–₹32,000 about ₹50,000–₹65,000 about ₹95,000–₹1.4 lakh
Per person (couple) about ₹8,000–₹11,000 about ₹19,000–₹25,000 about ₹37,000–₹55,000

The family row assumes one extra bed or a family room in each hotel and a two-bedroom houseboat (₹15,000–₹18,000 deluxe/premium per the Boats n Beds table); children under 12 are usually charged half at hotels and nothing extra on the boat or in the car. The standard family trip is cheaper per head than the standard couple trip for exactly this reason.

How much does a 6-day Kerala trip cost?

Six days is the full southern loop: Kochi – Munnar (2 nights) – Thekkady – Alleppey houseboat – Kochi, or with Kovalam replacing Thekkady. Add about 300 km of driving to the 4-day figure, two more hotel nights, and the Periyar boat (₹450 per person in KTDC’s slots) or a Kovalam beach day.

6 days / 5 nights, land cost Budget Standard Deluxe
Couple about ₹28,000–₹36,000 about ₹60,000–₹80,000 about ₹1.2–₹1.7 lakh
Family of 4 about ₹40,000–₹52,000 about ₹80,000–₹1.05 lakh about ₹1.5–₹2.2 lakh
Our fixed price: Kerala Honeymoon Special 6D/5N – – ₹22,500 per person, 4-star hotels, private sedan, houseboat with meals (off-season band)

The Kerala Honeymoon Special covers Kochi, two Munnar nights, Thekkady and a private houseboat night with a private AC sedan, four nights in 4-star hotels or resorts, breakfast and dinner, the houseboat’s three meals, a candle-light dinner and flower-bed decoration, fuel, tolls and driver allowances. Entry tickets, lunches and train or air fares are extra. The ₹22,500 per-person price applies in the off-season band (1 Nov–19 Dec and 6 Jan–14 Mar); peak dates are about 25% more. Our Kerala honeymoon trip plan walks through it day by day. For Kerala Highlights and Kerala Royal, prices are on request because the hotel level is chosen with you.

What do flights and trains to Kerala add?

From Delhi, nonstop flights to Kochi take about 3 hours 15 minutes and, booked a month ahead, usually fall in the ₹6,000–₹10,000 one-way range outside holidays; from Mumbai and Bengaluru about 1.5–2 hours and lower fares. Treat these as rough, since airfares move daily. The train is the big saver for groups: the daily 12626 Kerala Express leaves New Delhi 20:10 and reaches Ernakulam Town 16:30 on day three (ConfirmTkt, checked 30 Oct 2026), and 3A fares on IRCTC are a fraction of the airfare. From Bengaluru and Chennai, overnight trains to Ernakulam make a long-weekend Kerala trip practical. Our train classes guide helps you pick 2A or 3A for a 40-hour journey.

Where can you save on a Kerala trip without spoiling it?

  • Travel in the shoulder weeks. 1 November to 19 December and 6 January to 14 March have the same weather as Christmas week at 25–40% less for hotels and houseboats. Our Kerala in December guide explains the surge dates.
  • One houseboat night, not two. The second night repeats the first; spend it in Munnar or Kumarakom.
  • Share the houseboat and the car. Two couples on a two-bedroom boat and one Innova cut per-person cost by about a third.
  • Stay in Munnar town or Pallivasal, not Chinnakanal. The far-out resorts add 20–25 km to every sightseeing day and the car bill grows accordingly.
  • Book Eravikulam and Periyar online a day ahead. It saves no money but saves two hours of queue, which is the dearer currency on a short trip.
  • Eat local. A Kerala sadya or fish-curry meal at a decent restaurant is ₹150–₹300; hotel restaurants charge three to five times that.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Kerala trip cost for a couple?

Excluding flights, roughly ₹16,000–₹22,000 for 4 days on a budget, ₹38,000–₹50,000 at standard 3-star level with a private car and a deluxe houseboat, and ₹75,000 to ₹1.1 lakh at deluxe resort level. For 6 days add about 50–60%. Our Kerala Honeymoon Special gives a fixed 6D/5N price of ₹22,500 per person in the off-season band.

What is the cost of a Kerala trip for a family of 4?

About ₹24,000–₹32,000 for 4 days on a budget, ₹50,000–₹65,000 at standard level and ₹95,000 to ₹1.4 lakh deluxe, excluding travel to Kochi. For 6 days the ranges are roughly ₹40,000–₹52,000, ₹80,000 to ₹1.05 lakh and ₹1.5–₹2.2 lakh. Families pay less per head because the car and the houseboat are charged per vehicle or boat.

How much is a houseboat in Alleppey per night?

Deluxe one-bedroom boats run about ₹7,000–₹12,000 a night, premium ₹12,000–₹20,000 and luxury ₹20,000–₹50,000, with two-bedroom deluxe and premium boats around ₹15,000–₹18,000 (Boats n Beds rate guide, checked 30 October 2026). The price is per boat and includes lunch, dinner and breakfast; December–January and weekends sit at the top of each band.

What does a car with driver cost per day in Kerala?

In our quotes a sedan such as a Dzire or Etios with driver works out to roughly ₹2,800–₹3,800 a day including fuel, driver allowance, tolls and parking, and an Innova Crysta to roughly ₹4,500–₹5,500. Hill driving to Munnar and Thekkady costs a little more than coastal days. Rates vary by operator and kilometres, so confirm what is included.

Is Kerala cheaper than Goa or Himachal?

At the same hotel band Kerala costs about the same as Himachal and a little less than Goa in December, because Kerala hotel rates are lower but the houseboat and longer driving distances add back the difference. The real saving is the shoulder season: Kerala in November and February–March gives the same weather at 25–40% less than Christmas week.

How much money should I carry per day in Kerala?

Once hotels, car and houseboat are prepaid, about ₹1,000–₹1,500 per person per day covers entry fees, boating, a Kathakali show, meals outside the hotel and small tips. UPI works almost everywhere including Munnar tea stalls, but carry ₹2,000–₹3,000 in cash for forest department counters, village boat rides and parking.
