Short answer: The best 2-day Jaipur itinerary spends Day 1 inside the walled Pink City (City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal, Johari and Bapu bazaars, sunset at Nahargarh) and Day 2 on the Amer road north of town (Amer Fort at opening, Panna Meena stepwell, Jaigarh, a Jal Mahal photo stop, then Albert Hall and Patrika Gate on the way back). Arrive on the 06:10 Shatabdi from Delhi and you have two full days; a car for the day costs about ₹2,000–₹3,000 and Indian entry fees total roughly ₹700–₹900 per person.

Quick answer (checked 30 October 2026)

Is 2 days enough for Jaipur?

Yes, two full days cover everything most visitors want: the walled city, the Amer complex, the two hilltop forts and one or two of the newer photo spots. The key is geography. Jaipur’s sights fall into two clusters about 11 km apart: the Pink City inside the old walls, and the Amer–Jaigarh–Nahargarh ridge to the north. Doing one cluster a day cuts the driving and lets you start each morning at a monument instead of in traffic.

What you cannot do in two days is add Pushkar, Ranthambore or Agra as day trips without sacrificing half of Jaipur. If you have a third day, our Jaipur to Pushkar guide covers the 150 km hop, and our Agra–Jaipur road guide covers the Abhaneri and Fatehpur Sikri stops for those continuing on the Golden Triangle. For the city’s full list with timings, see our Jaipur tourist places guide.

Day 1: the Pink City itinerary

Time Stop Why and what to know
10:35–11:15 Arrive Jaipur Junction, drop bags Most hotels are 10–20 minutes from the station; early check-in is usually possible on request
11:30–13:00 City Palace Mubarak Mahal textiles, Diwan-i-Khas silver urns, the four Pitam Niwas gates. Privately run; museum ticket is separate from the state composite
13:00–13:45 Jantar Mantar Next door. UNESCO site since 2010; the Samrat Yantra sundial is accurate to about two seconds. ₹100 Indian. A guide helps here more than anywhere else in Jaipur
14:00–15:00 Lunch LMB in Johari Bazaar for Rajasthani thali, or MI Road for Lassiwala and Rawat’s pyaaz kachori
15:00–16:00 Hawa Mahal Photograph the facade from the cafes opposite, then enter from the rear lane. ₹100 Indian. Afternoon light is on the facade
16:00–17:15 Bapu and Johari bazaars Mojris, block prints, lac bangles at Maniharon ka Rasta. Bargain from about half the first price
17:30–18:45 Nahargarh Fort About 25 minutes’ drive up the ridge road. ₹100 Indian. Sunset over the city; the Padao restaurant on the ramparts is open in the evening

If you arrive on the afternoon Vande Bharat instead, swap the plan: do the Amer cluster on your first full day and the old city on the second, finishing at Nahargarh. Entry fees are the state-monument rates that took effect on 1 January 2026 (Zee News Rajasthan, checked 30 October 2026); opening hours at Jaipur monuments are generally about 09:00–17:00, with Amer opening around 08:00 and Nahargarh staying open later for the restaurant, but check at the gate as they change seasonally.

Day 2: Amer Fort and the ridge itinerary

Time Stop Why and what to know
07:30 Leave hotel Amer is about 11 km north; 25–35 minutes before the traffic builds
08:00–10:15 Amer Fort Walk up from Maota Lake (10 minutes) or take a jeep from the car park. Sheesh Mahal, Sukh Niwas, Ganesh Pol. ₹200 Indian since 1 Jan 2026. We advise against the elephant ride
10:20–10:45 Panna Meena ka Kund Eight-storey stepwell five minutes from the fort; free; no climbing on the steps
11:00–12:15 Jaigarh Fort Up the hill behind Amer; home of the Jaivana cannon and the best view back down over Amer. Separate ticket; check the rate at the gate
12:30–12:45 Jal Mahal Photo stop from the Man Sagar promenade on the way back; the palace itself is not open to visitors
13:00–14:00 Lunch Near Amer road or back in C-Scheme
14:30–15:45 Albert Hall Museum Rajasthan’s oldest museum (1887) with an Egyptian mummy; ₹100 Indian. Lit beautifully after dark if you prefer to come back in the evening
16:00–16:30 Patrika Gate Painted gateway at Jawahar Circle near the airport road; free; busy with photographers at golden hour
17:30 onwards Birla Mandir or Chokhi Dhani Birla Mandir is free and lit at night. Chokhi Dhani (about 20 km on Tonk Road) is a ticketed ethnic village with dinner; allow 3–4 hours

Amer Fort runs a light-and-sound show in the evening in Hindi and English (timings vary by season; check locally), which is an alternative to Chokhi Dhani if you would rather stay close to the monuments. Our things to do in Jaipur guide has more evening options.

How do you get to Jaipur and around the city?

From Delhi: the 12015 Ajmer Shatabdi leaves New Delhi at 06:10 and reaches Jaipur at 10:35 daily; the 26482 Vande Bharat leaves Delhi Cantt at 15:10 and arrives at 19:00, not on Tuesdays; the 12986 Double Decker leaves Delhi Sarai Rohilla at 17:25 and arrives at 22:00 (ConfirmTkt and RailYatri timetables, checked 30 October 2026). By road it is about 270–280 km and 3.5–5 hours via the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway and the Bandikui spur; RSRTC and private AC buses from Delhi’s ISBTs take 5–6 hours and start around ₹300. Our Delhi to Jaipur guide compares every option in detail.

From Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chennai and Ahmedabad: fly to Jaipur’s Sanganer airport, about 12 km south of the centre. Overnight trains from Ahmedabad (about 10–12 hours) and Mumbai (about 17–18 hours) also work for a long weekend.

Inside Jaipur: a car with driver for the day (about ₹2,000–₹3,000 for 8 hours and 80 km, in our experience) is the simplest way to do the Amer cluster. For the old city, walk or take autos; the Jaipur Metro’s Pink Line runs from Mansarovar to Badi Chaupar, right by Hawa Mahal, and is handy if your hotel is along it. App cabs (Ola, Uber, Rapido) work well and remove the fare haggling.

Where should you stay in Jaipur for 2 days?

  • Bani Park: quiet, leafy, 10 minutes from the station, full of converted havelis in the ₹2,500–₹6,000 band; our usual pick for families.
  • C-Scheme and MI Road: central, good restaurants, walkable to the old city gates; business hotels and a few boutique stays.
  • Inside the walled city: the most atmospheric, with rooftop views of Hawa Mahal, but noisy and tricky for cars.
  • Amer road and the outskirts: heritage and palace hotels (Samode Haveli in the old city, Rambagh Palace on Bhawani Singh Road, and the resorts on Delhi road are the well-known names) for those who want the hotel to be part of the trip. We mention them as reference points only.

For two nights the location matters less than you might think, because you will be out all day; prioritise easy parking and a quiet room over proximity to any single sight.

What does 2 days in Jaipur cost?

Per person for two people sharing: about ₹7,000–₹9,000 on a budget (guesthouse, autos and metro, thalis, train from Delhi), ₹13,000–₹17,000 standard (three-star haveli, one day of car hire, a Chokhi Dhani evening) and ₹22,000 upwards with heritage hotels. Monument tickets for the eight ticketed stops in this plan add up to roughly ₹700–₹900 per person, including the City Palace and Jaigarh, whose rates we have not quoted here as they are set separately; our Rajasthan trip cost guide has the full breakdown by hotel band.

How does Jaipur fit into a longer trip?

Two days in Jaipur is the first chapter of almost every Rajasthan plan. Westwards, Jodhpur is about 335 km and Jaisalmer a further 285 km; southwards, Udaipur is about 395 km via Chittorgarh (our Jaipur to Udaipur guide covers that road). Our Rajasthan 5-day plan shows both continuations with day tables. Eastwards, Agra is about 240 km, which makes Jaipur the third corner of the Golden Triangle. Jaipur is also a 4–5 hour drive from Delhi, so it pairs naturally with a Himachal tour from Jaipur for those who want hills after the heat.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best 2-day itinerary for Jaipur?

Day 1: City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal, the Johari and Bapu bazaars, and sunset at Nahargarh Fort. Day 2: Amer Fort at 08:00, Panna Meena stepwell, Jaigarh Fort, a Jal Mahal photo stop, Albert Hall Museum, Patrika Gate and an evening at Birla Mandir or Chokhi Dhani. Splitting the old city and the Amer ridge across two days minimises driving.

What are the entry fees in Jaipur for Indians?

Since 1 January 2026 Amer Fort costs ₹200 for Indian adults, and Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, Nahargarh Fort and Albert Hall Museum cost ₹100 each; students pay ₹50 and the composite ticket is valid for 10 days. City Palace and Jaigarh are run separately and charge their own rates, so budget roughly ₹700–₹900 per person for all the ticketed stops.

How do I reach Jaipur from Delhi for a 2-day trip?

Take the 12015 Ajmer Shatabdi from New Delhi at 06:10, arriving Jaipur 10:35 daily, which leaves a full first afternoon. The 26482 Vande Bharat leaves Delhi Cantt at 15:10 and arrives at 19:00, except Tuesdays. By road it is about 270–280 km and 3.5–5 hours; AC buses take 5–6 hours from about ₹300.

Where should I stay in Jaipur?

Bani Park is the easiest choice: quiet, 10 minutes from the station, with converted havelis in the ₹2,500–₹6,000 band. C-Scheme and MI Road are central with good restaurants. The walled city is the most atmospheric but noisy and hard for cars. Heritage and palace hotels sit on the Amer and Delhi roads and in the south of the city.

Can I see Jaipur in 2 days without a car?

Yes. Use the Pink Line metro to Badi Chaupar for the old city, walk between City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Hawa Mahal, and take an app cab or auto to Amer (about 11 km) and Nahargarh. Jaigarh and Nahargarh are hilltop forts with limited public transport, so an auto or cab for the ridge section is still needed.

What is the best time for a 2-day Jaipur trip?

October to March, when days are 22–34°C and evenings pleasant. November and February are the most comfortable; December and January are cool with morning fog possible. Avoid April to June when afternoons exceed 36°C, or sightsee only before 10:30 and after 17:00. Weekdays are cheaper and quieter than weekends, which draw Delhi traffic.
