A Kinnaur tour package with Suzu Travels is a private-SUV circuit on NH-5, the old Hindustan–Tibet road, from Shimla or Chandigarh into the Baspa and Sutlej valleys: Sarahan’s Bhimakali temple, Sangla, Chitkul (about 3,450 m, the last village on the Baspa valley road) and Kalpa facing the Kinner Kailash range, with Nako and Spiti as the summer extension. The 7-day trip from Chandigarh is from ₹24,999 per person and the 8-day Kinnaur–Kaza–Chandratal circuit from ₹32,500 (twin sharing, off-season); the 6-day trip from Shimla is quoted to your dates. Hotels and camps, breakfast and dinner, and the SUV with fuel, tolls, parking and driver allowance are included.
Updated: November 2026
Quick answer: Kinnaur in a package (November 2026)
- Prices: 7 days from Chandigarh from ₹24,999 per person; 8 days with Kaza and Chandratal from ₹32,500; 6 days from Shimla on request.
- The road: NH-5 along the Sutlej — Shimla to Kalpa is about 250–265 km and 7–8 hours of driving, which is why every plan breaks the journey at Sarahan or Sangla.
- Core stops: Sarahan, Sangla (Kamru Fort), Chitkul, Kalpa (Kinner Kailash views, Roghi village); Nako on the Spiti road in season.
- Permits: none for Indian travellers on this circuit; foreign nationals need an Inner Line Permit only beyond Jangi towards Nako and Spiti, which we arrange.
- Best months: April–June and September–early November; July–August bring monsoon landslides on NH-5, and heavy winter snow can cut off Chitkul.

Kinnaur tour packages and prices (2026)
These are Suzu Travels’ own Kinnaur trips. Each runs in a private SUV that only your group uses, with a driver experienced on NH-5. Prices are per person, twin sharing, deluxe hotels and camps, off-season, as printed on each package page today.
| Package | Days | Starts from | Route | From ₹ per person |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Unexplored Kinnaur from Shimla | 6D/5N | Shimla | Sarahan – Sangla – Chitkul – Kalpa | On request |

“From” prices are the sample rates printed on each live package page on 7 November 2026: per person, twin sharing, off-season. “On request” means the page prints no sample rate — Kinnaur stays mix deluxe hotels and riverside camps, and what is open changes sharply with the season, so the honest number comes from your dates. The Kaza–Chandratal circuit crosses Kunzum La (4,551 m) and runs only while the pass is open, usually June/July to October. You get a written quote before you pay anything. All Himachal circuits are compared on our Himachal tour packages page.
How you reach Kinnaur
Kinnaur is the district between Shimla and Spiti where the Sutlej cuts a gorge and villages sit on apple-orchard terraces under 6,000 m peaks. There is one practical road: NH-5 from Shimla through Narkanda, Rampur, Wangtu, Karcham and Reckong Peo. The distances are modest; the hours are not.
| From Shimla to | Distance | Time by car |
|---|---|---|
| Sarahan (Bhimakali temple) | About 165 km | 5–6 hours |
| Sangla (Baspa valley) | About 225 km | About 8 hours |
| Chitkul | About 250 km (24 km beyond Sangla) | Best done as a day trip from Sangla |
| Kalpa | About 250–265 km | 7–8 hours of driving, 9–10 with stops |
| Nako (Spiti road) | About 345 km (110 km beyond Reckong Peo) | Add a day; first place above 3,500 m |
That is why our itineraries never do Shimla to Kalpa in one go: a night at Sarahan or Sangla turns one long day into two short ones. The stretch between Wangtu and Karcham is cut into cliffs with rockfall-prone sections, so we drive it in daylight with local drivers and do not recommend self-drive for first-time visitors. Reaching Shimla first is easy — Chandigarh is roughly a 3 to 3.5 hour drive away, or take the toy train from Kalka. The road is covered stop by stop in our Shimla to Kalpa route guide and the full district in the Kinnaur valley travel guide.
Sample itinerary: 6 days from Shimla
This is the day plan of the Unexplored Kinnaur tour from Shimla — one night in Sarahan, two in Sangla and two in Kalpa. The 7-day Chandigarh trip covers the same valleys with the transfer built in.
| Day | Plan | Night |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Shimla to Sarahan through Narkanda and Rampur; the 800-year-old Bhimakali temple in the evening. | Sarahan hotel |
| Day 2 | Along the Sutlej to Karcham, then up the Baspa valley to Sangla; Kamru Fort and the local market. | Sangla camp/hotel |
| Day 3 | Day trip to Chitkul, the last village on the old Indo-Tibetan trade route, with lunch by the Baspa river. | Sangla camp/hotel |
| Day 4 | Sangla to Kalpa; afternoon at Roghi village and the viewpoints on the cliff road. | Kalpa hotel |
| Day 5 | Kalpa day: sunrise on the Kinner Kailash range, the Hu-Bu-Lan-Kar monastery, the Narayan-Nagini temple and the apple orchards. | Kalpa hotel |
| Day 6 | Drive back to Shimla; drop at your hotel or Shimla railway station. | — |
Kalpa sits at about 2,960 m, 7–8 km above Reckong Peo, with the Kinner Kailash range and its 79-foot Shivling rock filling the view across the valley — the sunrise colour change is the reason every plan keeps two nights here. Chitkul is the highest sleep-stop option at about 3,450 m; spending the night lower down in Sangla first helps with acclimatisation. Detail on both in our Kalpa guide and the Sangla and Chitkul trip guide.
What is included and what is not
| Included | Not included |
|---|---|
| Hotel and camp nights (deluxe; riverside camps in Sangla), twin sharing | Train, flight or bus tickets to Shimla or Chandigarh |
| Daily breakfast and dinner | Lunch and snacks not mentioned in the itinerary |
| Private SUV with driver for all transfers and sightseeing | Monument entrance fees and camera charges |
| Fuel, tolls, parking and driver allowance | Personal expenses and adventure activity costs |
| Inner Line Permit assistance for foreign nationals | Travel insurance, laundry, tips |
Taken from the inclusion and exclusion lists on the package pages above. The SUV on the Kinnaur legs is a non-AC hill vehicle of the Innova or Xylo class — standard for NH-5 driving.
Permits: who needs what
Indian travellers need no permit anywhere on the Sarahan–Sangla–Chitkul–Kalpa circuit. Foreign nationals also need nothing for those places; an Inner Line Permit applies only beyond the Jangi check post towards Nako, Sumdo and Spiti. The permit is issued at the SDM office in Reckong Peo, requires a group of two or more sponsored by a registered Indian agency, costs ₹200 per person in government fees and is valid 30 days — we handle it for our guests on the day, so bring your passport, visa photocopies and four passport photos. The full rules are in our Kinnaur valley travel guide.
Best time for a Kinnaur tour
| Months | What to expect |
|---|---|
| April–June | The classic window: orchards in leaf, all roads open, Chandratal extension possible from June/July. |
| July–August | Monsoon landslides between Wangtu and Karcham can close NH-5 for hours or days. We quote these months only with a buffer day and never drive at night. |
| September–early November | Clear skies and apple harvest — our pick. The first snow of the 2026–27 season fell on 28 September, early but not unusual at Nako. |
| December–February | Kalpa under snow with −10 °C nights; NH-5 to Kalpa stays open with short closures, but the Sangla–Chitkul road usually closes January–March and many guesthouses shut. See our Kalpa in winter guide. |
Kalpa and Sangla answer different wishes — Kalpa for the Kinner Kailash views, Sangla for river walks, camps and Chitkul — which is why the standard plan gives two nights to each.
What this means for your trip
If you can reach Shimla on your own, the 6-day Unexplored Kinnaur trip is the tightest plan and is quoted to your dates. Starting from the plains, the 7-day Eccentric Kinnaur from Chandigarh (from ₹24,999) builds the transfer in. If you want to carry on past Kalpa to Nako, Kaza and Chandratal, take the 8-day circuit from ₹32,500 between June/July and October. Pair any of them with two Shimla nights first — see our Shimla packages hub — and keep a buffer day in monsoon and winter.
Kinnaur tour package: frequently asked questions
How much does a Kinnaur tour package cost?
With Suzu Travels, the 7-day Kinnaur circuit from Chandigarh starts at ₹24,999 per person and the 8-day Kinnaur–Kaza–Chandratal circuit at ₹32,500 (twin sharing, off-season, as printed on the live package pages). The 6-day trip from Shimla is quoted for your dates because Kinnaur stays mix hotels and seasonal riverside camps.
How many days do I need for Kinnaur?
Five to six days from Shimla covers Sarahan, Sangla, Chitkul and Kalpa at a reasonable pace. Seven days adds the Chandigarh transfer or a rest day; to continue to Nako, Kaza and Chandratal plan eight days or more, in season.
Do I need a permit for Kinnaur?
Indian citizens need no permit on the Sarahan–Sangla–Chitkul–Kalpa circuit. Foreign nationals need an Inner Line Permit only beyond Jangi towards Nako and Spiti — ₹200 per person, issued at Reckong Peo, which we arrange.
How far is Kalpa from Shimla?
About 250–265 km on NH-5, which is 7–8 hours of driving and 9–10 hours door to door with stops. Our itineraries break the journey at Sarahan or Sangla rather than driving it in one day.
Is the Kinnaur road safe?
With a local driver, in daylight and outside the monsoon, yes. NH-5 between Wangtu and Karcham is carved into a cliff with rockfall-prone stretches, and July–August landslides can close it for hours or days. We keep buffer days in monsoon plans and do not recommend self-drive for first-time visitors.
What is special about Chitkul?
Chitkul is the last village on the Baspa valley road near the Indo-Tibetan border, at about 3,450 m — slate-roofed wooden houses, the temple of the local goddess Mathi and a meadow running down to the river. Our plans visit it as a day trip from Sangla, which also helps with acclimatisation.
Can I visit Kinnaur in winter?
Mostly. NH-5 to Reckong Peo and Kalpa stays open through winter with short closures after heavy snow, and Kalpa under snow is one of the finest sights in Himachal. The Sangla–Chitkul road is usually closed January–March, and expect −10 °C nights at Kalpa.
Can I combine Kinnaur with Spiti?
Yes, in season. The 8-day Kinnaur, Kaza and Chandratal circuit enters Spiti through Nako and Tabo and exits over Kunzum La (4,551 m) to Manali, so it runs only while the pass is open, usually June/July to October. From ₹32,500 per person.
