Short answer: From Mumbai, the quickest way to Manali is a non-stop flight to Chandigarh (about 2 h 10 min to 2 h 30 min, five non-stops on a typical day), then a 290 km, 7–8 hour drive. No airline flies Mumbai to Kullu, and Kullu has no Delhi flights this winter. By train, the daily Paschim Express reaches Chandigarh in about 28 hours. A 4N/5D Kullu Manali package from Chandigarh starts from ₹12,999 per person, so flights plus package come to roughly ₹31,800–34,300 per person off-season.

Quick answer: Mumbai to Manali at a glance

  • Best route: fly Mumbai–Chandigarh non-stop (IndiGo and Air India), then a private cab to Manali, about 290 km and 7–8 hours.
  • Direct train to Chandigarh: 12925 Paschim Express (daily, Bandra Terminus 11:30, Chandigarh 15:23 next day) and 22451 Bandra Terminus–Chandigarh Superfast (twice a week).
  • Fastest train to Delhi: 12951 Mumbai Rajdhani, daily, Mumbai Central 17:00 to New Delhi 08:32.
  • No flights to Kullu from Mumbai, and the Delhi–Kullu link is suspended for winter 2026–27.
  • Time needed: 6 days by air; 8–9 days if you take the train both ways.
  • Cost: about ₹31,800–34,300 per person with return flights and a 4N/5D package off-season.

How do you get from Mumbai to Manali?

There is no direct train, bus or flight from Mumbai to Manali. Every plan has two legs: get to a gateway in the north, then go by road for the last stretch, because Manali has no railway and Kullu airport, 50–60 km away, has no flights from Delhi this winter. For Mumbai the useful gateways are Chandigarh (shortest drive) and Delhi (most trains and flights).

Route Travel time to gateway Then by road to Manali Best for
Fly Mumbai → Chandigarh 2 h 10 min – 2 h 30 min non-stop 290 km, 7–8 h by cab Most families and couples; saves two days
Fly Mumbai → Delhi About 2 h 540 km, 11–13 h, or overnight Volvo When Delhi fares are much lower, or you add Delhi/Agra
Train to Chandigarh (Paschim Express) About 28 h 290 km, 7–8 h Rail lovers, groups with time, lower budgets
Train to Delhi (Rajdhani) 15 h 32 min Overnight bus or cab, or a train to Chandigarh Overnight comfort, no airport hassle

Our Chandigarh to Manali taxi starts from ₹4,199 one way for a sedan and ₹7,199 for an Innova Crysta, with tolls and the Himachal entry fee extra.

Which trains run from Mumbai towards Manali?

Mumbai has two trains that run all the way to Chandigarh, and many more to Delhi. The table lists the ones that matter for a Manali trip. Timings and fares are from Indian Railways data as listed on 5 November 2026; check current timings on IRCTC before you book.

Train Runs Departs Arrives Journey Approx. fare (SL / 3A)
12925 Paschim Express Daily Bandra Terminus 11:30 Chandigarh 15:23 (day 2) 27 h 53 min ₹740 / ₹1,875
22451 Bandra Terminus–Chandigarh SF 2 days a week Bandra Terminus 12:00 Chandigarh 14:15 (day 2) 26 h 15 min ₹735 / ₹1,860
12951 Mumbai Rajdhani (Tejas) Daily Mumbai Central 17:00 New Delhi 08:32 15 h 32 min 3A about ₹2,405 + catering
12953 August Kranti Rajdhani Daily Mumbai Central 17:10 Hazrat Nizamuddin 09:43 16 h 33 min 3A about ₹2,405 + catering
12903 Golden Temple Mail Daily Bandra Terminus 18:43 Ambala Cantt 19:05 (day 2) 24 h 20 min ₹656 / ₹1,675 (to Delhi)

The Paschim Express is the one to know: it is daily, it stops at Chandigarh in the afternoon, and a cab gets you to Manali the same night only if you push on late, which we don’t recommend in winter. A better rhythm is to sleep in Chandigarh or Zirakpur and drive up the next morning. If you prefer the Rajdhani, you reach New Delhi at 08:32, which is too late for the 07:40 Kalka Shatabdi; take an overnight Volvo or our Delhi package car that evening instead.

Can you fly from Mumbai to Manali?

Yes, as far as Chandigarh. On a typical day (we checked Friday 20 November 2026) there were five non-stop Mumbai–Chandigarh flights: Air India at 06:00, 11:25 and 14:35, and IndiGo at 09:35 and 22:05, each taking 2 h 10 min to 2 h 30 min. The 06:00 and 09:35 departures are the useful ones, because you land by late morning and still reach Manali the same evening.

There are no Mumbai–Kullu flights. Kullu–Manali airport at Bhuntar takes only small turboprops, and Alliance Air dropped its direct Delhi–Kullu service after 24 October 2026; the winter schedule to 27 March 2027 links Kullu only with Jaipur and Dehradun on a few days a week. So for a Mumbai trip this winter, plan on Chandigarh. Our Kullu–Manali airport guide explains why those flights are so often cancelled.

What is the best plan for a Manali trip from Mumbai?

For most Mumbai travellers the best plan is: early non-stop flight to Chandigarh, private cab to Manali the same day, five nights in Manali (our 4N/5D package plus one spare night, priced on request), cab back to Chandigarh and an evening flight home. That fits into six days, uses one weekend, and avoids both an overnight bus and two long train days.

Our Kullu Manali package from Chandigarh is built on exactly this pattern: pickup at Chandigarh airport, private sedan, four nights with breakfast and dinner, and Solang, Kullu and Manikaran on the way. If you want Shimla too, take the Shimla Manali tour from Chandigarh (5N/6D, from ₹12,499 per person) and add a day. Groups of six or more usually do better with an Innova Crysta or a tempo traveller; ask us to price both.

When should travellers from Mumbai go to Manali?

  • Maharashtra summer holidays (May–mid-June): state-board schools broke on 2 May 2026 and reopened on 15 June 2026. This is when Mumbai families fill Manali hotels and Chandigarh flights, and Suzu packages are on peak pricing (25% above off-season). Book 6–8 weeks ahead.
  • Diwali week: popular with Mumbai families; November is off-season in our pricing, but flights around the festival cost more.
  • Snow: for snow at Solang and Sissu, go between late December and February. Christmas–New Year is peak; the second and third weeks of January are quieter and cheaper. Our Manali snowfall guide has month-by-month odds.
  • Skip: mid-July to mid-September, the monsoon, when landslides close the Mandi–Kullu road for hours.

How much does a Manali tour package from Mumbai cost?

Here is what a Manali trip from Mumbai costs per person, split into getting to the gateway and back, and the land package in Himachal. Package prices are the live ‘from’ prices on our package pages, for two people sharing a room.

Part of the trip Per person (approx.) Notes
Flight Mumbai–Chandigarh–Mumbai, return ₹18,800–₹21,300 Mumbai–Chandigarh, lowest daily fares about ₹9,400–10,600 one way in December 2026.
Train 12925 Paschim Express to Chandigarh, 3A, return about ₹3,800 Listed 3A fare about ₹1,875 each way to Chandigarh; sleeper about ₹740. Add one extra day each way.
Land package: Kullu Manali package from Chandigarh, 4N/5D From ₹12,999 Manali, Solang, Kullu and Manikaran; private sedan; breakfast and dinner; Deluxe ₹12,999, Super Deluxe ₹15,339, Luxury ₹17,549 per person, twin sharing, off-season
Total with flights + package ₹31,800–₹34,300 Off-season, Deluxe hotels, twin sharing. Lunches, activities and snow gear extra.
Total with train (3A) + package about ₹16,700 Cheaper, but it costs two extra days of leave.

Off-season rates apply 1 July–30 September, 1 November–19 December and 6 January–14 March; peak dates (15 March–30 June, all of October and 20 December–5 January) are priced 25% higher. Flight fares are the lowest fares we saw for each December 2026 departure day when we checked on 5 November 2026; they move daily, so treat them as a guide. Train fares are the listed adult fares; check IRCTC before booking. For lunches, activity tickets and snow gear, see our Manali trip cost breakdown.

What does a 6-day Manali itinerary from Mumbai look like?

This six-day plan assumes the 06:00 or 09:35 flight from Mumbai and a 4N/5D package. Swap Day 4 and Day 5 around the weather.

Day Plan Night
Day 1 Fly Mumbai–Chandigarh. Our driver meets you at the airport; drive via the Kiratpur–Nerchowk four-lane, Mandi and Kullu to Manali (about 290 km, 7–8 hours) with lunch at Mandi. Manali
Day 2 Manali local sightseeing: Hadimba Devi Temple (built in 1553) in its cedar grove, Van Vihar by the Beas, the hot springs at Vashisht village, and Old Manali’s cafés and Mall Road in the evening. Our Manali local sightseeing guide has the order and taxi rates. Manali
Day 3 Solang Valley, then the Atal Tunnel (9.02 km, opened in October 2020) to Sissu in Lahaul. Snow play here from late December in most winters; after fresh snow, police often allow only 4×4 vehicles beyond Solang. See our Solang Valley guide. Manali
Day 4 Kullu valley day: the gurudwara and hot springs at Manikaran and the riverside at Kasol, or a shorter loop to Naggar Castle. River rafting near Kullu runs when the season and water level allow. Manali
Day 5 Weather buffer: keep this day free for snow, a second try at Sissu if the tunnel road was shut, or the walk from Vashisht up to Jogini Falls. Manali
Day 6 Leave Manali by 7 am, reach Chandigarh by mid-afternoon and fly home. Book a return flight after about 5 pm, or add a night in Chandigarh. —

Want a slower trip? Our Manali itinerary guide has 3-, 4- and 5-day versions you can slot between Day 1 and Day 6.

What this means for your trip

From Mumbai, Manali is a six-day trip by air and an eight- or nine-day trip by rail. Fly to Chandigarh, not Delhi, unless Delhi fares are much cheaper: it saves about 250 km of driving each way. Book the early flight, keep one free day for weather, and avoid the monsoon. If you travel in May or early June with school-age children, book early because that is when Maharashtra schools are closed.
