Short answer: Pune has two early-morning non-stop flights to Chandigarh, IndiGo at about 03:00 and Air India Express at about 03:45, both around 2 hours 20 minutes, which land in time to reach Shimla by mid-morning or Manali by mid-afternoon on day one. That makes a 5-night Shimla–Manali package from Chandigarh, from ₹12,499 per person on twin sharing, the natural Himachal tour package from Pune. Allow 7 days away from Pune for a 6-day trip.

How do you get from Pune to Himachal?
Pune to Shimla is about 1,750 km by road, so this is a flight-plus-car trip. Our packages begin at the airport or station; the fare to reach it is yours. Pune’s advantage over most cities is the timing of its Chandigarh flights.
| Route from Pune | Travel time | Frequency (checked 30 Oct 2026) | Then |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fly PNQ → Chandigarh | 2 h 15–20 min | IndiGo 6E242 about 03:00 and Air India Express IX1686 about 03:45, daily | Shimla 3–3.5 h, Manali 7–8 h, Dharamshala 6–7 h |
| Fly PNQ → Delhi | about 2 h | IndiGo, Air India, Akasa, SpiceJet; many a day | Shimla 7–8 h, Manali 12–14 h by road, or Alliance Air to Shimla six days a week |
| Drive to Mumbai, fly BOM → Chandigarh | 3 h road + 2 h 30 min flight | About six non-stops a day from Mumbai and Navi Mumbai | As above; see our Mumbai guide |
| Train 12264 Duronto, Pune → Hazrat Nizamuddin | about 20 h 45 min | Twice a week (Wikipedia); the daily Jhelum Express to Jammu also stops at Delhi and Ambala, roughly 26–30 h, check IRCTC | Same as the Delhi option |
The 03:00 departure means leaving home in Pune around midnight, which sounds grim and is actually the best thing about the route: you land at Chandigarh about 05:30, the car is waiting, and you are in Shimla for a late breakfast with the whole first day in hand. Most airlines shuffle departure times a few times a year, so confirm the exact timing on the airline site before you pay for the package.
Which day does your trip really start?
| You land at | What we do on day one |
|---|---|
| Chandigarh 05:30–06:30 (both Pune non-stops) | Shimla by 10:00 with Kufri the same afternoon; or straight to Manali by 15:00 if you want to start there |
| Chandigarh via Mumbai, early afternoon | Shimla by evening |
| Delhi before 10:00 | Shimla by evening; Manali is too far for one day |
| Delhi after noon | Night in Delhi or Chandigarh, hills from day two |
Because the Pune flights land so early, Pune is one of the few cities from which starting the circuit at Manali makes sense: Chandigarh to Manali by 15:00, two nights there, then the Kullu valley road to Shimla and a short last-morning drive to the airport. That reversal makes the last day relaxed. For the return, the Chandigarh–Pune flights are also early in the day on the current schedule, so we usually spend the final night in Chandigarh or Zirakpur rather than in Shimla, or you fly back via Delhi in the afternoon.
How many days off do you need from Pune?
With the night flight out, a 5-night, 6-day package takes 7 days away from Pune, and that includes the last night near Chandigarh airport. Via Delhi it is 8–9 days. The 8-night Incredible Himachal needs 10. Pune’s IT firms tend to give long weekends rather than long holidays, so we are often asked for a four-night plan: the Kullu Manali honeymoon trip, 4N/5D from ₹12,999, also works for friends and small families and fits a Thursday-to-Monday break with the early flights.
Which Himachal packages suit Pune travellers?
| Package | Starts | Duration | From (per person, twin sharing, Deluxe, off-season) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shimla Manali from Chandigarh | Chandigarh | 5N/6D | ₹12,499 |
| Kullu Manali Honeymoon | Chandigarh or Delhi | 4N/5D | ₹12,999 |
| Shimla Manali from Delhi | Delhi | 5N/6D | ₹14,999 |
| Supreme Dharamshala Dalhousie from Chandigarh | Chandigarh | 5N/6D | ₹19,499 |
| Incredible Himachal from Delhi | Delhi | 8N/9D | ₹18,999 |
| Kinnaur–Kaza with Chandratal | Shimla, ends Manali | 7N/8D | ₹32,500 (June–mid-Oct only) |
Packages include hotels, a private car for the whole trip, breakfast and dinner, tolls and parking. Flights, lunches, entry tickets, Rohtang permits and adventure activities are extra. Peak dates (20 December to 5 January and 15 March onwards) are about 25% above the off-season rates shown.
Pune groups skew younger than most, and these are the plans that come up most:
- Friends, first Himachal trip: Shimla–Manali, with a day at Solang for paragliding and the Sissu snow drive through the Atal Tunnel. Our Manali group trip guide covers Tempo Traveller sizes and hostels.
- Couples: Kullu Manali honeymoon, or Shimla–Manali with a cottage upgrade in Naggar.
- Families with elders: Dharamshala–Dalhousie, which has shorter drives and gentler terrain than the Manali circuit.
- Trekkers and bikers: the Kinnaur–Spiti circuit in summer; for winter, the Spiti expedition via Shimla.
When should Pune travellers go to Himachal?
Pune’s own hill stations, Lonavala and Mahabaleshwar, peak in the monsoon. Himachal is the opposite: the monsoon is the one season to avoid.
- Diwali (8 November 2026) to mid-December: off-season rates, dry roads, clear mountain views, cold nights. Our pick for value.
- Christmas to Sankranti: peak rates, best chance of snow in Manali and Shimla; book six weeks ahead.
- Gudi Padwa to mid-March: off-season rates return from 6 January to 14 March; snow still lies above 2,500 m.
- Maharashtra summer vacation (late April to mid-June): Himachal at its greenest, Rohtang usually open from May, peak pricing and the heaviest traffic of the year on the Manali road.
- Ganesh Chaturthi week (September): the hills are drying out after the monsoon and are quiet; a good week for Kinnaur, less so for Manali, where landslides can still disrupt the road.
For the month-by-month detail see the best time to visit Himachal, and for snow specifically, when it snows in Manali.
What do Pune travellers usually get wrong?
Underestimating the cold. Pune’s winter mornings at 10–12 °C feel cold; Shimla in December is near zero at night and Manali below it, with wind at Sissu and Rohtang. Pack layers, a windproof jacket, woollen socks and gloves. Rent snow boots and heavy jackets in Manali for the snow day rather than buying them.
Treating the drives like the Mumbai–Pune Expressway. Shimla to Manali is 240–250 km and 7–8 hours. Chandigarh to Manali is 300 km and 7–8 hours. There is no expressway; the roads follow the rivers. Treat the long drives as sightseeing days with stops, and ask for an SUV if anyone gets carsick.
Over-planning the snow. Rohtang Pass shuts in winter and on Tuesdays in season, and needs a permit from rohtangpermits.hp.gov.in. The Atal Tunnel to Sissu is open year-round apart from snow closures and is where the snow day happens from November to April. Build the trip around Sissu, not Rohtang.
Food. Maharashtrian food is not found in the hills; expect parathas, rajma, dal and North Indian thalis, with good Tibetan food in Manali and Dharamshala. Pure-veg hotels are easy to arrange if you tell us.
How does booking from Pune work?
You book the flights; we handle everything from the airport. A 20% token confirms the package, fully refundable if you cancel within 48 hours of paying; after that the advance is non-refundable but the dates can be changed once within six months. The balance is due before the trip by UPI, bank transfer or card through Razorpay. Our office is at Ghumarwin in Bilaspur district, between Chandigarh and Manali, and our drivers are from the valleys the packages run through.
Pune travel agents can book the same trips at net rates; see our Himachal winter packages for travel agents. The itineraries are the same ones our guests from Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Bangalore take.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a direct flight from Pune to Himachal?
Not to any Himachal airport. The closest gateway with non-stops from Pune is Chandigarh, served daily by IndiGo at about 03:00 and Air India Express at about 03:45 on the current schedule, each around 2 hours 20 minutes. Shimla, Kullu–Manali and Kangra airports are reached only via Delhi on small aircraft. Confirm timings on the airline sites before booking.
How much does a Himachal tour package from Pune cost?
Excluding flights, our 5-night, 6-day Shimla–Manali package from Chandigarh starts at ₹12,499 per person on twin sharing in Deluxe hotels at off-season rates; the 4-night Kullu Manali trip starts at ₹12,999 and the 8-night Incredible Himachal from Delhi at ₹18,999. Peak dates from 20 December to 5 January and from 15 March are about 25% higher.
How many days are enough for Himachal from Pune?
Seven days away from Pune covers a 5-night Shimla–Manali package with the early Chandigarh flights at both ends. A four-night Manali trip fits a long weekend of five days. The 8-night Incredible Himachal circuit through Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala and Dalhousie needs ten days. Via Delhi, add one day to each.
Which is better from Pune, flying to Chandigarh or Delhi?
Chandigarh. The 03:00 and 03:45 departures land about 05:30–06:00, and Shimla is 3–3.5 hours away, so the first day is not lost. Delhi has more flights and better fares but adds a 7–8 hour drive to Shimla. Use Delhi if the Chandigarh fares are high, or drive to Mumbai for its six daily Chandigarh non-stops.
Can we start the Himachal trip in Manali instead of Shimla?
Yes, and from Pune it works well. With the early Chandigarh landing you can be in Manali by mid-afternoon on day one, spend two nights there, drive the Kullu valley to Shimla, and finish with a short morning drive to the airport. The price is the same as the Shimla-first version of the package.
Will we see snow on a Pune trip to Himachal?
From mid-December to March, almost certainly at Sissu through the Atal Tunnel and usually in Manali itself in January. Shimla sees snow a few times each winter. From April to November, snow is limited to Rohtang Pass, which usually opens in May, and the high passes of Kinnaur and Spiti. Christmas and New Year are peak season, so book early.
