A Dalhousie tour package with Suzu Travels is a private-car trip to the quiet colonial hill town in Chamba district, built around Khajjiar meadow, Kalatop forest and two or three slow Dalhousie days. Because Dalhousie has no railway or airport, every trip of ours pairs it with Pathankot, Chandigarh, Delhi or Dharamshala: from ₹14,500 per person for 5 days from Pathankot, ₹16,499 from Delhi and ₹19,499 for 6 days from Chandigarh, twin sharing, off-season. Hotels, breakfast and dinner, the car with fuel, tolls, parking and driver allowance are included. It suits couples, families and anyone who wants pine forests and long walks rather than crowds.

You get a written quote before you pay anything. A Dalhousie-only break of 2–3 nights is also quoted on request.
Every fixed trip pairs Dalhousie with Dharamshala, because the two towns are 4–5 hours apart and share the same Pathankot railhead. If Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj are your main interest, start from our Dharamshala Dalhousie tour package page instead; this page is for travellers who want Dalhousie first. For every trip that touches the town, see the Dalhousie packages hub.
How do you reach Dalhousie?
Dalhousie has no railway and no airport, so every route ends with a hill drive from Pathankot in Punjab or across from the Kangra valley.
| From | How | Distance / time |
|---|---|---|
| Delhi | Overnight train or Volvo to Pathankot, then our car | About 85 km from Pathankot, 2.5–3 hours |
| Delhi | Car with driver all the way | About 555 km, 11–12 hours with stops |
| Chandigarh | Train or flight to Chandigarh, then the 6-day package car | Day 1 goes to Dharamshala (about 245 km); Dalhousie on Day 3 |
| Amritsar | Car via Pathankot | About 195–200 km, 5–6 hours; one-way sedan from ₹2,999 |
| Dharamshala | Car through the Kangra valley | About 120 km, 4–5 hours |
The overnight train is the smart move from Delhi: the 14035 Dhauladhar Express, for example, leaves Delhi Sarai Rohilla at 23:20 and reaches Pathankot at 08:20 on its running days (it does not run daily, so confirm on IRCTC or NTES before booking). Pathankot has two stations, Pathankot Junction and Pathankot Cantt (Chakki Bank); our driver meets you at either. If you only need the drive up, a one-way sedan from Pathankot to Dalhousie starts at ₹2,499 on our Pathankot to Dalhousie taxi page. In winter, shaded stretches near Banikhet and on the Khajjiar road can ice over in the mornings, so plans keep a buffer.
Sample itinerary: 6-day Dalhousie tour from Chandigarh
This is the day plan of our 5N/6D Supreme trip from Chandigarh — the one to pick if Dalhousie is your main stop, because it keeps three nights there. The Pathankot and Delhi trips cover the same sights with two Dalhousie nights.
| Day | Plan | Night |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Pickup in Chandigarh and drive to Dharamshala (about 245 km). Evening in the local market. | Dharamshala |
| Day 2 | McLeod Ganj: the Dalai Lama Temple, Bhagsu Nag waterfall, Dal Lake and the HPCA cricket stadium. | Dharamshala |
| Day 3 | Drive to Dalhousie, about 120 km and 4–5 hours. Evening walk on the Mall Road and Gandhi Chowk. | Dalhousie |
| Day 4 | Full day at Khajjiar (about 24 km): the meadow and lake, horse rides or zorbing if you want (paid locally), and the Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary on the way back. | Dalhousie |
| Day 5 | Dalhousie day: Panchpula, Subhash Baoli and St John’s Church, with views of the Pir Panjal range. | Dalhousie |
| Day 6 | Breakfast and the drive back to Chandigarh for your train or flight. | — |
With a spare half day, ask the driver for Dainkund Peak — at about 2,755 m the highest point around Dalhousie, with a short walk to the Pholani Devi temple — or Chamba, about 45 km away, for the Lakshmi Narayan temple group and the Bhuri Singh Museum. In town, the Garam Sadak and Thandi Sadak walks between Gandhi Chowk and Subhash Chowk are flat, shaded and the best thing to do with an unhurried evening.
Khajjiar: the day everyone comes for
Khajjiar is a saucer-shaped meadow with a small lake at about 1,920–2,000 m, ringed by deodar forest, 24 km and roughly an hour from Dalhousie inside the Kalatop–Khajjiar wildlife sanctuary. On 7 July 1992 a Swiss diplomat, Willy P. Blazer, named it the “Mini Switzerland of India” and put up a signpost showing Bern at 6,194 km — still the most photographed spot in the meadow. Horse rides, zorbing and tandem paragliding run in season and are paid locally. Our packages include Khajjiar as a full-day trip; the road runs through Kalatop forest, so one day covers both. For a deeper plan, read the Dalhousie and Khajjiar trip guide.

Best time for a Dalhousie tour
| Months | What to expect | Our advice |
|---|---|---|
| March–June | Mild days; busiest in the May–June school holidays | Book early; peak rates apply from 15 March |
| July–September | Monsoon rain and landslide risk on hill roads | Green and quiet; keep the plan flexible |
| October–November | Dry, clear Dhauladhar views, cold nights | Best value: November is off-season pricing |
| December–February | Snow likeliest late December–February; icy shaded roads | Keep a buffer day; Dainkund and the Khajjiar road get snow more often than the town |
Nobody can promise snow on a given date, and the Khajjiar road can close for a day after a heavy fall. To decide how to split your nights between the two towns, see our Dharamshala vs Dalhousie comparison.
What this means for your trip
If Dalhousie is the point of the trip, take the 6-day Chandigarh package from ₹19,499 — it is the only fixed trip with three Dalhousie nights and a proper town day for Panchpula and St John’s Church. For the lowest price, take the overnight train to Pathankot and the 5-day trip from ₹14,500. Give Khajjiar a full day, keep a buffer day in winter, and add Amritsar or Chamba if you have the time. For other circuits, see all our Himachal tour packages.
Dalhousie tour package: frequently asked questions
How much does a Dalhousie tour package cost?
With Suzu Travels, trips that include Dalhousie start at ₹14,500 per person for 5 days from Pathankot, ₹16,499 from Delhi and ₹19,499 for 6 days from Chandigarh, twin sharing, deluxe hotels, off-season. Peak dates cost 25% more, and a Dalhousie-only break is quoted on request.
How many days are enough for Dalhousie?
Two nights covers the town plus a full day at Khajjiar and Kalatop; three nights lets you add Dainkund Peak or Chamba without rushing. Most guests pair Dalhousie with Dharamshala for a 5- or 6-day circuit.
How do I reach Dalhousie from Delhi?
The easiest way is an overnight train or Volvo to Pathankot, then a car for the last 85 km (2.5–3 hours). Driving all the way is about 555 km and takes 11–12 hours with stops. Dalhousie itself has no railway or airport.
How far is Khajjiar from Dalhousie?
About 24 km, roughly an hour each way on a hill road through Kalatop forest. Our packages include it as a full-day trip; horse rides, zorbing and paragliding at the meadow are optional and paid locally.
Does it snow in Dalhousie?
Yes. Snow is likeliest from late December to February, and Dainkund and the Khajjiar road get it more often than the town. Shaded stretches near Banikhet can ice over in the mornings, so winter plans keep a buffer day.
Is Dalhousie better than Dharamshala?
They are different: Dalhousie is quieter, flatter to walk and more colonial; Dharamshala–McLeod Ganj has the Tibetan quarter, cafes and the Triund trek. Most of our guests do both in one circuit — our Dharamshala vs Dalhousie guide compares them in detail.
Can we start a Dalhousie trip from Amritsar?
Yes. Amritsar is about 195–200 km and 5–6 hours from Dalhousie via Pathankot, so you can see the Golden Temple first and drive up the same day. A one-way sedan from Amritsar starts at ₹2,999, or we build it into the package quote.
What is included in the package price?
Hotels, daily breakfast and dinner, and a private AC car with driver for all transfers and sightseeing, including fuel, tolls, parking and driver allowance. Train or flight tickets to the start city, lunches, entry tickets and activity charges are extra.
