Best time for a Manali trip from Delhi
- November to mid-December: dry, sunny and cold, with off-season package rates and the clearest mountain views. Snow is on the passes, rarely in town.
- Mid-December to February: snow in Manali town in most years, and at Solang. Roads above Solang can close to ordinary cars after fresh snow; Christmas and New Year are peak-priced.
- March to June: pleasant days and the summer-holiday rush; the Rohtang road reopens in May, with permits rationed.
- July to mid-September: monsoon. The Mandi–Kullu stretch is prone to landslides, so keep a spare day.

No. Rohtang is an optional excursion. It needs a permit (₹550 for a car including the congestion charge), it depends on the weather and the road, and the local union taxi to the pass is charged separately. The Atal Tunnel and Sissu need no permit.
