Short answer: A 7-day Spiti Valley trip costs roughly ₹10,000–15,000 per person on public buses and homestays, ₹20,000–30,000 with a shared or private SUV split between four, and ₹35,000 and up for a private car with better hotels. Suzu’s published Spiti packages start from ₹22,499 per person (Manali–Kaza–Chandratal, 6D/5N, summer), ₹28,500 (winter Spiti from Shimla, 7 days), ₹32,500 (Kinnaur–Kaza–Chandratal) and ₹38,500 (full circuit, 10D/9N). The two things that set your bill are the vehicle and the season: from mid-October to about May only the Shimla–Kinnaur road is open, which means longer drives and heated rooms.

How much does a private car for Spiti cost?
For a family or a group of four, a private SUV is the biggest single cost but also the best value per head. On the multi-day terms published on our cab pages, a round trip is billed at the per-km rate for the kilometres driven, with a minimum of 250 km a day, plus ₹400 a night driver allowance. For an Innova Crysta at ₹19/km on an 8-day trip, the minimum billing works out to 2,000 km × ₹19 = ₹38,000 plus ₹2,800 for seven nights, or about ₹40,800 for the car, roughly ₹10,200 each for four people. Tolls, parking and entry charges are extra, and winter 4×4 vehicles for Spiti are quoted separately.
Which vehicle to use, and why sedans are not sent over Kunzum, is covered in our sedan vs SUV vs Tempo Traveller guide.
How does the season change the cost of Spiti?
| Season | Route | Cost effect |
|---|---|---|
| Mid-June to September | Full circuit open: in via Shimla–Kinnaur, out via Kunzum and Manali | Most choice of stays; July–August and long weekends raise vehicle and room rates. |
| Late September to mid-October | Circuit open until the first heavy snow | Good value and clear skies; Chandratal camps start to close. |
| Mid-October to May (winter) | Shimla–Kinnaur only, out and back | Fewer stays open, heating extra, 4×4 needed after snow; usually more expensive per day. |
In 2026 the Gramphu–Batal (Manali–Kaza) road shut for the winter on 15 October. Our best time to visit Spiti and winter Spiti guide 2026–27 explain what is open month by month, and Spiti via Shimla or Manali compares the two routes.
Which hidden costs push up a Spiti trip?
- Extra days for weather: a landslide in Kinnaur or snow on the road can add a night; budget one buffer day.
- Heating: some homestays and guesthouses charge extra for heaters in winter.
- Single rooms: package prices assume twin sharing; single occupancy costs more.
- Cash: Kaza’s ATMs are often empty; carry enough cash from Reckong Peo or Shimla.
- Oxygen and health: Kaza is at about 3,650 m; plan acclimatisation days rather than paying for an emergency descent.
- Entry fees and donations at monasteries, and Himachal entry charges for cars registered outside the state.
What this means for your trip
Decide your season first, because it sets the route: in winter you must go via Shimla and Kinnaur and back, which takes 7 days at least. Then decide the vehicle: buses are cheapest but slow and seasonal; a shared or private SUV split four ways is the sweet spot for most groups. Homestays with meals keep the daily cost low and give you the best of Spiti. If you’d rather not manage it yourself, compare our package prices above with your own budget and send us your dates.

Can I do Spiti in 15,000 rupees?
Yes, for about a week if you travel by HRTC bus, stay in homestays at ₹800–1,200 a night with meals, and keep a flexible schedule. In winter, fewer buses and stays operate, so it is harder.

Village homestays in places such as Langza and Demul charge about ₹800–1,200 a night with meals; basic homestays in Mudh start around ₹500. Kaza guesthouses cost about ₹1,000–2,000 a night, as listed in 2026 guides.
How much does a taxi for Spiti cost?
On the multi-day terms on our cab pages, an Innova Crysta for 8 days works out to about ₹40,800 for the car at minimum billing (2,000 km at ₹19/km plus driver allowance), or about ₹10,200 each for four. Winter 4×4 vehicles are quoted separately.
Do Indians need a permit for Spiti?
No. Indian citizens do not need an Inner Line Permit for Spiti. Foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit for the border stretch between Kinnaur and Spiti.
Is Spiti cheaper in winter?
Usually not per day. In winter only the Shimla–Kinnaur road is open, fewer stays operate, heating can cost extra and a 4×4 is needed after snow. Our winter Spiti package from Shimla starts from ₹28,500 per person for 7 days.
How many days are needed for Spiti?
At least 7 days for a Shimla-side out-and-back from Chandigarh or Delhi, and 8–10 days for the full Shimla–Kaza–Manali circuit in summer. Extra days help acclimatisation and absorb road delays.
