Camping in Kasol, at a glance
Camping in Kasol means a tent stay beside the Parvati river at about 1,580 m, 30 km up the valley from Bhuntar. Most camps sit along the river in Kasol and Chalal; colder, quieter ones are higher up near Tosh and Kalga. Go March–June or September–November, stay back from the riverbed, and book only a camp registered with HP Tourism.

Your Kasol camp trip, step by step
-
Pick your camp style
Riverside in Kasol, forest at Chalal, family-easy on the Manikaran road, or cold and quiet up at Tosh.
-
Reach by afternoon
Overnight from Delhi or a day’s drive from Chandigarh; about 30 km from Bhuntar by cab.
-
Check in
Tents are allotted away from the riverbed; ask the camp about its flood-evacuation plan.
-
Evening at camp
Bonfire where it is allowed, dinner at the camp, and a sky full of stars on clear nights.
-
Morning walk
Cross the bridge to Chalal or drive the short road to Manikaran.
-
Add-ons
A half-day hike to Rasol, a guided Kheerganga trek, or rafting in Kullu on the way back.
Riverside, but not in the river
The best camps keep tents on firm ground back from the water and nallahs (seasonal streams). Sit by the river, never on rocks in the riverbed — the water level can change within minutes.
Nights are cool even in summer. Bring warm layers, a torch and cash: ATMs and mobile network are thin past Kasol (BSNL works best).
Best time for camping in Kasol
| Months | What it’s like | Camping verdict |
|---|---|---|
| Mar – Jun | Pleasant days, cool nights; May–Jun snowmelt raises the river | Best — book riverside early for May–Jun |
| Jul – Aug | Monsoon rain, landslides on the Bhuntar–Manikaran road; the district can ban riverside camps | Avoid riverbed camps; a hotel stay is safer |
| Sep – Nov | Clear skies, fewer crowds, cold nights by November | Best — great value |
| Dec – Jan | Nights near or below freezing; snow possible late December, more likely at Tosh/Kalga; New Year rush | Insulated tents + heater only; book by November |
| Feb | Coldest weeks; a landslide blocked the Manikaran–Barshaini road in February 2026 | Kasol camps only; skip the high villages |
What we check before we book your camp
Suzu Travels is an HP Tourism registered travel agent (Reg. No. DTO-MND-11-243/2022). We arrange stays only with registered local operators and plan around these checks:
- Registered camps onlyIn November 2024 a joint drive shut 45 unregistered tourism units in Kasol, 15 of them camping sites. We book only camps registered with the HP Tourism Department.
- Stay off the riverbedWater released from the Parbati hydro project can raise the river within minutes; two tourists were swept away near Kasol in May 2025. Never cross to river islands; obey hooters, warning boards and flood-level markings.
- Monsoon ordersIn heavy rain the district can ban camps near the Beas and Parvati under the Disaster Management Act. We move monsoon guests to hotels.
- Tent placementTents away from the riverbank and nallahs, and a camp with a clear flood-evacuation plan.
- ID and the lawCarry Aadhaar or a passport; police checks happen in the valley. Drugs are illegal under the NDPS Act.
- Winter kitInsulated tents, heater or extra blankets and backup power in December–February; carry cash, as ATMs and network are thin past Kasol.

Camping in Kasol — questions
Is camping in Kasol safe?
Yes, at a registered camp set back from the riverbed. The Parvati can rise suddenly when the hydro project releases water, so never cross to river islands and follow warning hooters and boards.
What is the best time for camping in Kasol?
March–June and September–November. December–January is very cold but popular for New Year; avoid riverside camps in the July–August monsoon.
Does it snow in Kasol?
Sometimes in late December–January, but not every year; Tosh and Kalga higher up hold snow more often.
How far is Kasol from Bhuntar and Manikaran?
About 30 km from Bhuntar (Kullu airport) and about 3.5 km from Manikaran.
Are camps in Kasol legal?
Camps must be registered with the HP Tourism Department; the Kullu administration shut 15 unregistered camping sites in a November 2024 drive. We arrange only registered camps.
Can families and kids camp in Kasol?
Yes — choose a camp with attached washrooms on the Manikaran road or riverside, away from the water, and avoid the coldest winter weeks for small children.
What should I pack?
Warm layers (nights are cool even in summer), a good jacket in winter, a torch, cash, ID and shoes for the walk to Chalal.
What does camping in Kasol cost? Can you add a cab and Manali hotel?
Rates depend on camp area, tent type, meals, dates and group size. Ask on WhatsApp and we send today’s rate in minutes — camp + cab + Manali or Kullu nights in one quote. Price: Get Quote.
