A Bir Billing tour package with Suzu Travels is a Kangra valley trip built around India’s paragliding capital: a tandem flight from the Billing take-off at about 2,400 m down to Bir’s landing fields at about 1,400 m, with the Tibetan colony monasteries, Sherab Ling, tea gardens and the Baijnath temple filling the rest of the days. Bir attaches naturally to our Dharamshala circuits — from ₹14,500 per person for 5 days from Pathankot, ₹16,499 from Delhi and ₹19,499 for 6 days from Chandigarh (twin sharing, off-season) — and a custom Bir-weighted trip is quoted to your dates. Paragliding is flown with registered local operators and paid locally; the fee comes in your quote, never guessed. Hotels, breakfast and dinner, and the car with fuel, tolls, parking and driver allowance are included.

Off-season rates apply 1 July–30 September, 1 November–19 December and 6 January–14 March; peak dates (15 March–30 June, all of October and 20 December–5 January) are priced 25% higher. “On request” means the page prints no price; we quote it for your dates. Paragliding is never in the package base price — it is paid locally, and the fee comes in your written quote. You get that quote before you pay anything. All circuits are on our Himachal tour packages page.
The flight: what actually happens
You ride a jeep 14 km up a narrow hill road from Bir to the Billing take-off at about 2,400 m. After the harness, helmet and a short briefing, a few running steps with your registered tandem pilot and you are airborne — usually 15 to 30 minutes over the valley, longer only when the air allows and the pilot agrees. You land at the Chowgan fields on Bir’s southern edge at about 1,400 m, roughly a 1,000 m drop, and collect your flight video if you booked one. Mornings are the safest bet because cloud and wind often build after midday, so we plan the flight for your first morning and keep the second as the spare. The full step-by-step, flight types and HP rules are on our paragliding in Bir Billing page.
Safety and the rules that apply
| Rule | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Registered pilots only | Only pilots registered with HP Tourism fly at notified sites, with insurance for pilot and passenger (HP Aero Sports Rules). |
| Age and weight | No passengers under 12 years or under 30 kg; the upper weight limit is the pilot’s call, so tell us your weight when you ask for a quote. |
| Kangra committee rules | The district committee sets flight timings, a daily flight limit per pilot and no flying in bad weather. |
| Long flights | Since October 2025, cross-country flights go only in groups with GPS tracking. |
| Monsoon ban | No tandem or solo flights from 15 July to 15 September every year (district order). |
Wear closed shoes and a warm layer, and mention back, heart or pregnancy issues before you fly. On any day the pilots’ weather call is final — which is why every plan of ours keeps a buffer morning.
How you reach Bir
| From | How | Distance / time |
|---|---|---|
| Dharamshala | Package car through the Kangra valley | About 65–70 km |
| Palampur | Car past the tea gardens and Baijnath | About 35 km |
| Delhi | Car with driver, overnight Volvo, or flight to Kangra (Gaggal) | Kangra is the nearest airport; Pathankot the nearest big railhead |
| Bir to Billing | Jeep up the hill road on flight morning | 14 km, narrow; snow can close it in winter |
The Kangra toy-train halt at Ahju is about 3 km from Bir. Most guests pair Bir with Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj — start from our Dharamshala tour package from Delhi page, or add Dalhousie with the Dharamshala Dalhousie circuit. Only need the car? See the Dharamshala taxi service rates.
Sample itinerary: Bir on the 6-day Delhi trip
This is the Dharamshala–Palampur–Bir day plan from our Delhi page, the trip where the flight day is built in rather than added.
| Day | Plan | Night |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Delhi to Dharamshala by private cab (about 10–11 hours), or the overnight Volvo; flyers land at Kangra (Gaggal). | Dharamshala |
| Day 2 | McLeod Ganj: the Dalai Lama Temple, Bhagsunag temple and waterfall, Tibetan cafés and markets. | Dharamshala |
| Day 3 | Naddi viewpoint, St. John in the Wilderness and Dal Lake — or swap the day for the Triund trek. | Dharamshala |
| Day 4 | HPCA stadium, Kangra Fort and the Norbulingka Institute. | Dharamshala |
| Day 5 | Palampur tea gardens, the 13th-century Baijnath Shiva temple, then Bir: fly the tandem or watch the paragliders land at the Chowgan fields. | Bir or Dharamshala |
| Day 6 | Breakfast and the drive back to Delhi, or drop at Kangra airport / Pathankot station. | — |
With two full Bir days you can fly the first morning and give the second to the Tibetan colony — the Chokling Monastery stupa is in the colony and Palpung Sherab Ling is about 7 km away at Bhattu — plus the Gunehar waterfall walk, cycling through the Chowgan tea gardens, or the bungee jump near Slabak. The second morning is also your spare if weather grounds the flight. Everything beyond the flight is in our things to do in Bir Billing guide.
What is included and what is not
| Included | Not included |
|---|---|
| Hotel nights (deluxe / 3-star; Bir, Palampur or Dharamshala), twin sharing | Train, flight or bus tickets to the start city |
| Daily breakfast and dinner at the hotels | The paragliding fee — paid locally to the registered operator, price in your quote |
| Private AC car with driver for all transfers and sightseeing | Flight video and photos, bungee and other activity charges |
| Fuel, tolls, parking and driver allowance | Lunch, entry tickets, travel insurance, laundry, tips |
This follows the inclusion and exclusion lists on the package pages above. We never print a paragliding fee on this page because it changes with flight length, video, date and group — the number you plan around is the one in your written quote.
Best time for Bir Billing
| Months | Flying | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Mid-September–November | Best | Clear post-monsoon air; October–November is the busiest window. |
| December–February | Open, weather permitting | Cold at take-off and shorter days; snow can close the Billing road — keep a spare morning. |
| March–May | Very good | Strong thermals and longer flights possible; busy weekends. |
| June–14 July | Open, weather permitting | Pre-monsoon heat and cloud; flights often stop by midday. |
| 15 July–15 September | Closed | Annual monsoon ban on tandem and solo flights (district order). |
Staying in Dharamshala and short on time? Indrunag is the quick hop above that town, and Bir is the bigger flight about 70 km away — we can fit both into one Kangra trip; see paragliding in Dharamshala.
What this means for your trip
If the flight is the point, take a custom 2–3 day Bir trip: fly the first morning, keep the second as the buffer, and fill the rest with the monasteries and tea gardens — quoted for your dates. If you want a full Kangra holiday, attach the Bir day to a Dharamshala circuit from ₹14,500 (Pathankot), ₹16,499 (Delhi) or ₹19,499 (Chandigarh), or take the Dharamshala–Palampur–Bir plan where the flight day is built in. Avoid 15 July–15 September, tell us every flyer’s weight, and always keep that spare morning.
Bir Billing tour package: frequently asked questions
How much does a Bir Billing tour package cost?
The Dharamshala circuits Bir attaches to start at ₹14,500 per person for 5 days from Pathankot, ₹16,499 from Delhi and ₹19,499 for 6 days from Chandigarh (twin sharing, off-season). A custom Bir weekend and the Dharamshala–Palampur–Bir trip are quoted on request, and the paragliding fee is always quoted separately and paid locally.
How much does paragliding in Bir Billing cost?
We do not print a flight rate because it depends on flight length, video, pickup, your date and group size. Send your date and each flyer’s weight on WhatsApp and we share the current rate with a registered local operator in your written quote; it is paid locally.
How long is the paragliding flight?
A tandem joyride is usually 15–30 minutes in the air; with the 14 km jeep ride up to Billing and the briefing, the whole outing takes 2–3 hours. Longer and cross-country flights depend on thermals and the pilot’s call on the day.
Who can fly?
Passengers must be at least 12 years old and 30 kg under the HP Aero Sports Rules; the upper weight limit is the pilot’s call. Only pilots registered with HP Tourism fly at the notified site, with insurance for pilot and passenger.
What is the best time for Bir Billing?
October–November and March–May. Flying is banned every year from 15 July to 15 September, and on any day cloud or wind can stop flights — mornings are safest, so keep a buffer morning in the plan.
How do I reach Bir Billing?
Bir is about 65–70 km from Dharamshala and 35 km from Palampur. The nearest airport is Kangra (Gaggal), the nearest big railhead is Pathankot, and the toy-train halt at Ahju is about 3 km away. Our packages include the car from your start city.
What else is there to do in Bir besides paragliding?
The Tibetan colony monasteries (Chokling in the colony, Sherab Ling about 7 km away), the bungee jump near Slabak, the Gunehar waterfall walk, cycling through tea gardens, the Baijnath Shiva temple and the Billing–Rajgundha trek with a camp night.
What if the weather cancels my flight?
The pilots’ weather call is final — on some days flights stop by late morning. That is why every plan keeps a spare morning: if day one is grounded, you fly on day two and swap the sightseeing days around.
