Around Bhaderwah

Jai valley, Padri and the high meadows: when to go

Jai valley and the meadows around Padri are green from May to September and snow-covered in winter; the high road over Padri usually closes after the winter snows. Kailash Kund, a high-altitude lake above Bhaderwah, is reached only in summer.

From Jammu the road runs via Udhampur, Batote and Pul Doda (Udhampur–Batote about 55 km, Batote–Pul Doda about 50 km, Pul Doda–Bhaderwah about 30 km). Monsoon rain (July–August) can bring landslides on this route; check the traffic advisory before setting out.
