The Mughal Road and Peer Ki Gali: when they are open
The Mughal Road links Shopian with Bufliaz in Poonch district over the Pir Panjal, passing Hirpora, Aliabad Sarai and Peer Ki Gali, its highest point at about 3,490 m. Heavy snow closes it for several months every winter; it usually reopens in spring once the snow is cleared, and even in summer weather at the top can change fast.
Check the J&K Traffic Police advisory before planning a crossing. In summer, Peer Ki Gali and the meadows of Hirpora and Dubjan are popular day trips from Shopian.
