The best places to visit in India in November are Rajasthan for sunny desert days and Pushkar Mela (10–26 November 2026), the Himachal hill stations of Manali and Shimla for clear, quiet off-season weather, Kashmir for autumn colour and the first snow, and Goa, Kerala and the Rann of Kutch as their dry season begins. November is one of India’s easiest months: the monsoon has gone, the heat has broken, and the cold has not yet arrived. The main things to plan around are Diwali on 8 November and poor air in Delhi.

What is the weather like in India in November?
November is dry across most of the country. The southwest monsoon has withdrawn from north and central India by mid-October, so Rajasthan, Himachal, Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Goa get long runs of sunny days. The exception is the far south: Tamil Nadu and parts of Kerala get showers from the northeast monsoon between October and December, which usually fall in the afternoon and rarely stop a trip.
In the hills the days are bright and the nights are cold. Manali averages about 17°C by day and 3°C at night in November; Srinagar averages about 16°C by day and close to 1°C at night. On the plains and in the desert the days stay warm and the evenings need a light jacket. Daylight is short in the mountains, so plan drives to finish by about 5 pm.

Why is Rajasthan the top pick for November?
Rajasthan is at its best from November to February, and November adds the state’s biggest fair. Pushkar Mela 2026 runs from Tuesday 10 to Thursday 26 November, with the main tourist programme — camel and horse events, folk shows and the evening aarti on the ghats — from 17 to 24 November. Our Pushkar Mela 2026 guide has the schedule and where to stay.
The classic November loop is Jaipur, Pushkar, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer. In Jaisalmer, the desert camp season is in full swing; note that the Sam dunes now close to tourists after sunset, so camps time camel rides for late afternoon. Read the Jaisalmer desert camp guide for Sam vs Khuri. To turn it into a trip, start from our Rajasthan tour packages and ask for dates that avoid the Diwali weekend.
Is Himachal worth visiting in November?
Yes — and it is the best-value month of the autumn. The apple harvest is over, the crowds have gone, and the skies are the clearest of the year. Suzu’s off-season rates run from 1 November to 19 December; peak rates (about 25% higher) start on 20 December. On our live pages today, the Kullu Manali honeymoon package starts at ₹12,999 and the Shimla Manali tour from Delhi at ₹14,499 per person.
What to expect on the roads: the Atal Tunnel keeps Sissu and Lahaul reachable from Manali, though it can shut for a few hours after heavy snow. The Rohtang Pass usually closes to tourist vehicles from mid-November until about May — check our Rohtang road status page before you go. The Manali–Kaza road over Kunzum La and the Manali–Leh highway were shut by snow on 15 October 2026, so reach Spiti only via Shimla and Kinnaur this month. Our Manali in November guide covers snow odds and packing.
Should I go to Kashmir in November?
November in Kashmir is for travellers who want colour and quiet rather than green meadows. The chinar trees in Srinagar’s Mughal gardens and along the Dal Lake boulevard hold their red and gold into the second week, and Gulmarg usually gets its first proper snow during November (7.6 cm fell there on 4–5 November 2025). Some hotels in Sonamarg and Pahalgam close for winter, so stay in Srinagar and do day trips. The Stunning Kashmir tour package is ₹28,500 per person on our live page; full detail is in Kashmir in November 2026.
What festivals and events happen in November 2026?
| Date (2026) | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1–7 Nov | Rann Utsav opens (1 Nov); pre-Diwali calm in the hills |
| 8 Nov (Sun) | Diwali — Lakshmi Puja; peak travel and hotel rates around this date |
| 10–11 Nov | Govardhan Puja (10) and Bhai Dooj (11); Kedarnath closes for winter on Bhai Dooj (official 2026 Char Dham closing dates) |
| 10–26 Nov | Pushkar Mela; main tourist programme 17–24 Nov |
| 15 Nov (Sun) | Chhath Puja evening arghya; Corbett’s Dhikala zone opens |
| 20–28 Nov | IFFI film festival in Goa |
| 24 Nov (Tue) | Guru Nanak Jayanti and Kartik Purnima — Dev Deepawali in Varanasi |
| Mid–late Nov | Rohtang Pass usually closes to tourist vehicles; Atal Tunnel stays open |
Two of these change prices. Diwali week (around 8 November) is the busiest travel week of the autumn, and the Pushkar fair fills every hotel in Pushkar and Ajmer. If your dates are flexible, the cheapest and calmest window this November is roughly 12 to 19 November. For a Diwali break in the hills, see our Diwali holidays in Himachal page.
Where else is good in November?
Goa
The rains are over and the beach shacks are open, but the December crowds have not arrived. The 57th International Film Festival of India runs in Goa from 20 to 28 November 2026. See Goa tour packages, or our guide to North vs South Goa and the beach-flag rules.
Kerala
Kerala Tourism treats November to February as peak season. The backwaters of Alleppey and the tea hills of Munnar are green after the monsoon; carry a light rain jacket for the odd afternoon shower. See Kerala tour packages.
Rann of Kutch
The Rann Utsav tent city at Dhordo opens on 1 November 2026 and runs to 7 March 2027. Full-moon nights on the white salt desert are the highlight; the 24 November full moon is a good target.
Jim Corbett
Dhikala, Durgadevi, Sonanadi and Pakhro zones open on 15 November and run till 15 June, while Bijrani has been open since 15 October. Dhikala forest-lodge permits sell out fast, so book as soon as the window opens.
Varanasi
Dev Deepawali falls on Kartik Purnima, 24 November 2026, when the ghats are lit with lamps. It is the most crowded night of the year; read our Kashi Vishwanath guide for darshan timings.
Which places should I avoid in November?
- Long stays in Delhi and the north Indian plains: air quality is often at its worst in November. Use Delhi as a transit point and head out the same day.
- Spiti via Manali and Ladakh by road: the high passes are snowbound. Ladakh can still be visited by flight, but it is a winter trip — see Ladakh in winter.
- Char Dham late in the month: Kedarnath traditionally closes on Bhai Dooj (11 November 2026) and Badrinath shortly after; exact dates are announced by the temple committee around Vijayadashami. Our Char Dham Yatra page has the 2027 plan.
What should I pack for India in November?
- Hills and Kashmir: thermal inner layers, a down or fleece jacket, woollen cap and gloves, and sunscreen — the sun is strong at altitude.
- Rajasthan and Kutch: cotton for the day, a warm layer for desert nights, a scarf for dust.
- Goa and Kerala: light clothes, a compact rain jacket for Kerala, mosquito repellent.
- Everywhere: an N95 mask if you are passing through Delhi, and modest clothing for temple visits.

Frequently asked questions
Which is the best place to visit in India in November?
For most travellers the best all-round choice is Rajasthan: dry, sunny days, cool nights and Pushkar Mela from 10 to 26 November 2026. If you want mountains instead, Manali and Shimla are clear and quiet with off-season rates from 1 November, and Kashmir has autumn chinar colours and the season’s first snow in Gulmarg.
Is November a good time to visit Himachal Pradesh?
Yes. November is one of Himachal’s clearest months: dry air, long views and roads with little traffic. Manali averages about 17°C by day and 3°C at night. Snow in town is unlikely before December, but higher points such as Solang and the Rohtang side can get early falls. Suzu’s off-season rates apply from 1 November to 19 December.
Will I see snow anywhere in India in November?
Possibly, but plan for it as a bonus. Gulmarg in Kashmir and the high passes above Manali usually get their first snow during November. Town-level snow in Shimla or Manali usually arrives in December or January. If snow is the whole point of the trip, a December or January date is safer.
Where should I avoid travelling in November?
Delhi and much of the north Indian plains often have very poor air quality in November, so keep city days short and head for the hills, Rajasthan’s desert or the coast. Also avoid booking the Diwali weekend (around 8 November 2026) at the last minute, and do not plan Spiti via Kunzum La, which is usually shut by snow.
Is November a cheap month to travel in India?
Partly. The hills are in off-season, so Himachal hotels and packages are cheaper than in December. Rajasthan, Goa and Kerala move into their main season, so rates rise, especially around Diwali, Pushkar Mela and the last week of November. Booking four to six weeks ahead usually gets the best mix of price and choice.
Are the Char Dham temples open in November?
Only at the start of the month. The Char Dham shrines close for winter around Diwali and Bhai Dooj; Kedarnath traditionally closes on Bhai Dooj, which is 11 November 2026, and Badrinath a little later. The temple committee announces exact closing dates around Vijayadashami, so check the official date before you travel.
