Short answer: June is the warmest month in Manali, with days averaging about 26 °C and nights about 13 °C (IMD normals), and the first three weeks are dry, crowded and fully open: Rohtang, the Atal Tunnel, Solang, rafting and, from mid-June, the Hampta Pass and Bhrigu Lake treks. The monsoon normally reaches Himachal around 25 June (in 2026 it covered the whole state on 1 July), so the last week of June brings the first heavy rain and the first landslide delays on the Mandi road. Peak package rates apply all month.

Quick answer (checked 30 October 2026)

  • Weather: 26.4 °C average day, 13.0 °C average night, about 90 mm of rain over 8 wet days (IMD 1991–2020 normals for Manali), most of it after the 20th.
  • Monsoon: normal onset over Himachal is about 25 June; in 2026 it arrived late and covered the state on 1 July (IMD via News Arena, 1 July 2026).
  • Rohtang: open all month with an online permit; closed Tuesdays. Kunzum and the Manali–Kaza road are open from late May, so Spiti is reachable from Manali.
  • Crowds: peak in the first half; thinning in the last week as schools reopen and the rain starts.
  • Prices: peak band on our packages, about 25% over the off-season base (Shimla–Manali from Chandigarh ₹12,499; from Delhi ₹14,999).
  • Best for: Rohtang snow early in the month, trekking from mid-June, Spiti and Leh road trips, rafting at full flow.

What is the weather like in Manali in June?

June is a month of two halves. Until about the 20th it is a continuation of May: hot afternoons in the sun, cool nights, and short thunderstorms that clear by evening. After that the monsoon pushes up from the plains and the pattern changes to long, grey, wet spells. The India Meteorological Department normals for 1991–2020 (extremes 1968–2020, tabulated on Wikipedia, checked 30 October 2026) show the jump in rain between June and July.

Manali (about 2,050 m) May June July
Average day temperature 24.9 °C 26.4 °C 25.7 °C
Average night temperature 9.3 °C 13.0 °C 16.0 °C
Record high 35.0 °C 33.2 °C 32.6 °C
Record low 1.0 °C 4.4 °C 7.4 °C
Rain (monthly) 66.4 mm 89.9 mm 201.5 mm
Wet days 6.2 7.9 12.9

The 33 °C record high is a reminder that Manali in a June heatwave is not cold; most of the month, though, afternoons sit in the high 20s with a breeze off the Beas. At Rohtang the temperature is still close to freezing before 09:00.

When does the monsoon reach Manali?

The normal date for the south-west monsoon to arrive over Himachal Pradesh is around 25 June. In 2026 it came late: IMD declared the monsoon over the entire state on 1 July, six days behind the usual date, and then issued orange alerts for heavy rain through the first week of July (News Arena, 1 July 2026; uniindia, checked 30 October 2026). In 2025 pre-monsoon showers started mid-June and the onset was forecast for around 25 June.

What that means for a June trip:

  • 1–20 June: treat as dry season. Afternoon storms are possible, but they rarely stop a plan.
  • 21–30 June: expect the first monsoon spells. Rain in Manali itself is a nuisance; rain on the Mandi–Kullu highway and the Rohtang road is the real issue, because that is when the first landslides and single-lane traffic of the season appear.
  • Our Himachal in the monsoon guide and the post on whether the Shimla and Manali highways are safe explain how we handle wet-season driving: no night driving, no driving in a cloudburst warning, and a day in hand.

Is Rohtang open in June, and what about Spiti and Leh?

Rohtang is open for the whole of June in every recent year, having reopened in mid-May (15 May 2026, 17 May 2025, 24 May 2024, per the Discover Kullu Manali road log, checked 30 October 2026). The rules are the same as in May: a per-vehicle permit from rohtangpermits.hp.gov.in, a daily cap, and no tourist traffic on Tuesdays. Early June still has snow walls at the top; by the end of the month the snow has retreated to the slopes above the road. Our Rohtang permit and road status page has the current rules.

June is also the month the high roads beyond Rohtang come alive:

  • Manali–Kaza (Spiti): the Border Roads Organisation cleared Kunzum Pass in the second half of May 2026, so the Gramphu–Batal–Kaza road is open through June. This is the first month of the year you can do the Spiti circuit from Manali; our Spiti package from Manali and our guide to entering Spiti via Shimla or Manali cover the options. Chandratal camps open in June too.
  • Manali–Leh: normally open by June after the BRO clears Baralacha La; the highway closed for winter at Darcha–Sarchu on 15 October 2026 and will reopen in spring 2027. Our Manali to Leh guide covers the two-day drive, and riders should look at our Manali–Leh–Srinagar fixed-departure bike tour.
  • Atal Tunnel: open; Sissu and Keylong are green, with waterfalls at their fullest from snowmelt.

What can you do in Manali in June?

  • Trek: Hampta Pass (4,270 m) and Bhrigu Lake usually open from mid-June once the snow softens; Beas Kund is a three-day option from Solang. Check with the operator the week before, because a late snow year pushes openings into July.
  • Raft: the Beas is at peak snowmelt flow in June; the Pirdi–Jhiri stretch is the longest and liveliest of the year. See rafting in Kullu–Manali.
  • Paraglide: flights run at Solang on calm mornings; afternoons are windy. Our paragliding in Manali page has flight types and what to expect.
  • Ride: June is the start of the motorcycle season; see bike rent in Manali.
  • Escape the crowd: the Parvati valley (Kasol, Kheerganga) and Tirthan are both at their best in early June; our Parvati Valley guide and offbeat Himachal post have the details.
  • Town: Hadimba before 09:00, Old Manali cafés in the evening, Vashisht hot springs, Naggar Castle. Our things to do in Manali list is sorted by season.

How crowded is Manali in June?

The first fortnight is as busy as late May: schools across north India are still closed, and the Rohtang road, Solang and the Mall jam from mid-morning. From about the third week, schools in Delhi, Punjab and Haryana begin reopening, the rain starts, and the town empties noticeably. In our experience the last week of June is the quietest high-season week of the year, with hotels discounting on the day. The same advice as May applies: stay outside the centre, start by 06:30, avoid weekends, and read our note on the Manali and Shimla jams for a sense of the worst-case day.

How much does Manali cost in June?

June sits in the peak band on our Himachal packages, roughly 25% above the off-season starting prices (per person, Deluxe category, twin sharing, live on 30 October 2026):

Permits, treks, rafting and paragliding are paid locally. Hotels hold May rates for the first half of June and start discounting in the last week. A 20% token confirms a package, with a full refund if cancelled within 48 hours of paying.

A 5-day Manali plan for June

Day Plan
1 Arrive; afternoon at Hadimba and Old Manali; evening on the Mall.
2 Rohtang Pass with a pre-booked permit (not Tuesday), 06:00 start; back by 14:00; Vashisht springs.
3 Through the Atal Tunnel to Sissu and Keylong; waterfalls at full flow; back for a late lunch at Solang.
4 Rafting at Pirdi in the morning; Naggar Castle and the Roerich gallery after lunch.
5 Paragliding at Solang early, then the drive out; leave a buffer for Mandi-road delays after the 20th.

With eight or nine days, swap days 3–5 for the Spiti circuit via Kunzum and Kaza and return through Kinnaur to Shimla.

What should you pack for Manali in June?

  • Cottons for town, a fleece and windproof for Rohtang and the tunnel.
  • A real rain jacket and a cover for your bag, essential after the 20th.
  • Shoes that can get wet; sandals for the hotel.
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses for the pass; insect repellent for riverside stays.
  • Printed Rohtang permit and ID; motion-sickness tablets for the hairpins.

Frequently asked questions

Is June a good time to visit Manali?

The first three weeks are among the best of the year if you want everything open: Rohtang, the Atal Tunnel, rafting, paragliding and the first treks. It is also crowded and at peak prices. The last week is quieter and cheaper but brings the first monsoon rain and the first landslide delays on the roads.

Does it rain in Manali in June?

Yes, but mostly late in the month. June averages about 90 mm over 8 wet days, against 200 mm in July. Until around the 20th rain comes as short afternoon storms; after the monsoon onset, normally about 25 June (1 July in 2026), expect longer wet spells and plan a buffer day for the drive out.

Is Rohtang Pass open in June?

Yes, in every recent year. The pass reopened on 15 May 2026, 17 May 2025 and 24 May 2024 and stays open through June. You need a per-vehicle online permit from rohtangpermits.hp.gov.in, there is a daily cap, and the pass is closed to tourists on Tuesdays. Early June still has snow at the top.

Can I go to Spiti or Leh from Manali in June?

Yes. Kunzum Pass on the Manali–Kaza road was cleared in the second half of May 2026 and the Manali–Leh highway normally opens by June, so both road trips run through the month. Chandratal camps open in June too. Both roads closed for winter on 15 October 2026 and will reopen in spring 2027.

Can I trek from Manali in June?

From about mid-June, yes. Hampta Pass and Bhrigu Lake usually open once the snow softens, and Beas Kund from Solang is a three-day option. In a late-snow year openings slip into early July, so confirm with the trek operator the week before and carry proper boots, a warm layer and rain gear.

How crowded and expensive is Manali in June?

The first half of June is as crowded as late May, with peak hotel rates and our package peak band (about 25% above off-season prices such as ₹12,499 for Shimla–Manali from Chandigarh). From the third week, schools reopen in the plains, the rain starts, and both crowds and hotel rates fall noticeably.
