Rates vary by season, group size and hotel category, and these are sample rates, not live availability — send us your dates and we will confirm what is genuinely open. On the hotel-grade trips, Super Deluxe is priced 18% above Deluxe and Luxury 35% above; Premium is quoted on request. Each trip page shows its own full tier table. Which months are peak and which are off-season
Off-season (the rates shown above): 1 July – 30 September, 1 November – 19 December, and 6 January – 14 March.
Peak season (priced 25% above the off-season rate): 15 March – 30 June, the whole of October, and 20 December – 5 January.
From Delhi, peak season also means heavier traffic out of the city on Friday evenings and long weekends, so on peak dates we plan the first day’s departure earlier.
Getting from Delhi into Himachal: every real option
A Delhi-start package includes the road journey in your private vehicle, so you do not need any of the options below. They matter if you would rather reach the hills yourself and join a trip that starts in Chandigarh, Shimla, Manali or Dharamshala.
By road (what our Delhi-start trips use)
| Leg | Distance | Drive time |
|---|---|---|
| Delhi → Chandigarh | about 250 km | 4–5 hours |
| Delhi → Shimla | about 345 km | 7–8 hours |
| Delhi → Manali | about 540 km | 11–13 hours |
These are our drivers’ working figures, including a breakfast stop. For Shimla we leave Delhi by 6 am; for Manali we leave by about 5 am so the mountain section is driven in daylight. We do not run overnight drives into the hills. If you only need the transfer, not a package, see our Delhi to Shimla taxi and Delhi to Manali taxi pages.
By train: Shatabdi to Kalka, then the toy train to Shimla
- Kalka Shatabdi (12011) runs daily from New Delhi to Kalka, 269 km in about 4 hours, stopping at Chandigarh. It is the fastest train on the Delhi–Kalka line.
- Himalayan Queen Express (14095) runs from Delhi Sarai Rohilla to Kalka, 305 km in about 5 hours 25 minutes.
- From Kalka, the narrow-gauge Kalka–Shimla Railway climbs 96.6 km to Shimla through 102 working tunnels. It is part of the UNESCO “Mountain Railways of India” World Heritage Site (the Kalka–Shimla line was added to it in 2008) and averages only 25–30 km/h, so plan on most of a day for the climb.
Good fit if you want the toy train as part of the holiday. Tell us and we will start your Shimla trip from Kalka station instead of Delhi.
By train: Vande Bharat towards Una
The New Delhi – Amb Andaura Vande Bharat Express (22447) covers 437 km in about 5 hours 20 minutes, calling at Chandigarh and Una. It runs six days a week and does not run on Tuesdays. It is the quickest rail route into lower Himachal and useful for the Dharamshala and Kangra side, with a road transfer from the station.
By air
- Kangra (Gaggal) Airport — about 12 km from Dharamshala. IndiGo flies here from Delhi. This is the most practical flight into Himachal.
- Kullu–Manali (Bhuntar) Airport — about 52 km from Manali. Alliance Air is the only airline, and Delhi is one of its routes. The runway sits in a deep valley and takes small aircraft only.
- Shimla (Jubbarhatti) Airport — about 22 km from Shimla town. Alliance Air flies to Delhi, but the runway is short and high, and passenger numbers fell by roughly two-thirds in 2025–26. Check the current schedule before you build a trip around this flight.
Mountain flights are small and weather-dependent. If you fly, we will build a road fallback into your plan.
By Volvo bus
Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) was the first operator in North India to run Volvo coaches on the Delhi–Shimla and Delhi–Manali routes, starting in 2005. It now runs daily semi-sleeper Volvo and Scania services from Delhi to Shimla, Manali and Dharamshala. Timetables change with the season, so check and book on the official site, hrtchp.com. The Volvo is the cheapest way up. Our packages use a private vehicle instead, so you can stop where you like and the driver stays with you for the whole trip.
Starting in Delhi or in Chandigarh: what it changes
The hills, hotels and sightseeing are the same. Starting in Delhi adds the 250 km Delhi–Chandigarh stretch in each direction (4–5 hours each way), so the only real cost difference is the vehicle. Compare the same 5-night Shimla–Manali trip:
- From Delhi: from ₹14,499 per person
- From Chandigarh: from ₹12,499 per person
That ₹2,000 per person gap assumes four people sharing the car. A couple starting in Delhi pays the same vehicle cost split between two, so their per-person rate is higher and we quote it on request. A larger vehicle (Innova or Tempo Traveller) has its own supplement.
A cheaper alternative for couples: take the Shatabdi or Vande Bharat to Chandigarh and start one of our Himachal trips from Chandigarh at the station. You save the vehicle cost of the Delhi stretch and reach Chandigarh in roughly 3.5 hours. If you are four or more with luggage, or have elderly travellers or small children, a door-to-door Delhi start is usually simpler.
Before you book a Delhi-start trip
- Pickup: tell us whether you are arriving by air, rail or from home. Our Delhi cabs pick up from the airport, the main railway stations and home or hotel addresses.
- Rohtang and the high passes: Rohtang needs a permit and closes for winter. Read our Rohtang permit and Himachal road status guide before you fix dates.
- Budget: for a full breakdown of what a Himachal trip costs, see Himachal trip cost. All our Himachal itineraries are listed on the Himachal tour packages page.

Questions about Himachal packages from Delhi
How much does a Himachal tour package from Delhi cost?
Our Delhi-start trips begin at ₹14,499 per person for 5 nights in Shimla and Manali (twin sharing, Deluxe hotels, off-season, four sharing the car). The 4-night Dharamshala–Dalhousie trip starts at ₹16,499 and the 8-night circuit at ₹18,999. Peak-season dates are 25% higher.
Is it better to start from Delhi or Chandigarh?
Starting in Chandigarh is about ₹2,000 per person cheaper on the Shimla–Manali trip when four share the car, and the saving is bigger for couples. Starting in Delhi is simpler for families and larger groups, because the car picks you up at home, the airport or the station.
How long is the drive from Delhi to Manali?
About 540 km and 11–13 hours with stops. We start by about 5 am so the mountain stretch is driven in daylight, and we do not run overnight drives.
Can I take the toy train to Shimla on a package?
Yes. Take the Kalka Shatabdi or Himalayan Queen to Kalka, ride the Kalka–Shimla toy train, and we start your trip in Shimla. Tell us when you enquire so we can match the train to your first hotel night.
Which is the best month to go to Himachal from Delhi?
It depends on what you want. For the lowest rates, travel in our off-season windows: July to September, November to mid-December, or mid-January to mid-March. For snow, travel between December and February. For open high passes and clear weather, travel from March to June or in October — these are peak months, so book early.
