Rates vary by season, group size and hotel category. These are sample rates, not live availability — send us your dates and we will confirm what is genuinely open. On the hotel-grade trips (marked Deluxe), Super Deluxe is priced 18% above Deluxe and Luxury 35% above; Premium is quoted on request. The Kinnaur and Spiti trips mix hotels with camps, homestays or guest houses, so they carry one rate rather than a hotel ladder. Each trip page shows its own full rate block.
Which months are peak and which are off-season
Off-season (the rates shown above): 1 July – 30 September, 1 November – 19 December, and 6 January – 14 March.
Peak season (priced 25% above the off-season rate): 15 March – 30 June, the whole of October, and 20 December – 5 January.
The Spiti trips follow the roads, not the calendar. The long circuit and the Chandratal trip only run while the Manali side of Spiti is open; once it closes, the winter expedition takes over. Check the current pass position on our Himachal road status guide.
Where we pick you up in the Tricity
- Chandigarh Airport (IXC) — officially Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, about 12 km from the city centre on the Mohali side. Your driver tracks the flight and meets you at arrivals.
- Chandigarh railway station (CDG) — about 8 km from Sector 17.
- Kalka station — useful if you came up on a Kalka-bound train or want to ride the toy train before the road trip starts.
- ISBT-43, or any address in Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula or Zirakpur — hotel, home or office.
The return works the same way: we drop you at IXC, the station or your door, timed to your flight or train.
How long the drives are from Chandigarh
| Leg | Distance | Drive time | Route |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chandigarh → Shimla | about 115 km | 3–3.5 hours | Zirakpur, Pinjore, Parwanoo, Solan |
| Chandigarh → Dharamshala | about 240 km | 5.5–6.5 hours | Ropar, Una, Kangra |
| Chandigarh → Manali | about 290 km | 7–8 hours | Kiratpur–Nerchowk four-lane, Mandi, Kullu |
| Chandigarh → Amritsar | about 230 km | 4–5 hours | NH44 via Ludhiana and Jalandhar |
These are our drivers’ working figures including a meal stop; our Himachal road trip from Chandigarh guide compares the routes, stops and day counts in more detail. Friday-evening and Sunday-afternoon queues at Parwanoo can add 1–2 hours on the Shimla road, so on weekends we start early. For Manali we like to leave Chandigarh by 6–7 am so the Mandi–Kullu stretch is driven in daylight.
Timing your arrival: if your flight or train lands in Chandigarh after about midday, go to Shimla first (3–3.5 hours) rather than straight to Manali, or spend the first night in Chandigarh. Our Shimla & Manali trip already runs in that order. Only need a transfer, not a package? See our Chandigarh to Shimla taxi and Chandigarh to Manali taxi pages.
Getting to Chandigarh from the rest of India
By train from Delhi
- New Delhi – Chandigarh Shatabdi (12045 / 12046) — 244 km in about 3 hours 20 minutes via Karnal and Ambala Cantt. It runs six days a week and does not run on Wednesdays.
- Kalka Shatabdi (12011) — the daily New Delhi–Kalka Shatabdi stops at Chandigarh, so it works on Wednesdays too. Stay on to Kalka if you want the toy train.
- Vande Bharat (22447) — the New Delhi–Amb Andaura Vande Bharat calls at Chandigarh. It runs six days a week and does not run on Tuesdays.
From anywhere else in the country, most long-distance rail routes into the region reach Delhi or Ambala first; check the through options for your city before you book, because the Shatabdi from Delhi is often quicker than a slow through train.
By air
IndiGo, Air India and Air India Express fly into Chandigarh Airport from cities including Delhi, Bengaluru, Pune, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Indore and Jammu, and IndiGo also flies to Dubai. Routes and frequencies change, so check the airline before you book. Flying into Chandigarh and starting the road trip there is usually more dependable than flying directly into Shimla or Kullu, whose small mountain airports are weather-dependent and served by small aircraft only.
By bus
Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) and private operators run services from Chandigarh into Himachal, including air-conditioned coaches. Timetables change with the season, and winter services to Manali in particular depend on road conditions, so check and book on the official site, hrtchp.com. Our packages use a private vehicle with the same driver for the whole trip instead.
Starting in Chandigarh or in Delhi: what it saves you
The hills, hotels and sightseeing are identical. A Delhi start adds about 250 km and 4–5 hours of driving in each direction, and that extra vehicle running is the only real cost difference. Compare the same 5-night Shimla–Manali trip:
- From Chandigarh: from ₹12,499 per person
- From Delhi: from ₹14,499 per person
That ₹2,000 per person gap assumes four people sharing the car. For a couple the saving per person is larger, because the same extra vehicle cost is split between two. So if you live in Delhi, the cheapest way to do this trip is often the Shatabdi or Vande Bharat to Chandigarh and a Chandigarh start from the station. If you are four or more with luggage, elderly travellers or small children, a door-to-door start from home is usually simpler — see our Himachal tour package from Delhi page.
Adding Amritsar or Kasauli
- Amritsar: about 230 km from Chandigarh. Our Special Himachal with Amritsar trip builds the Golden Temple and Wagah into a 10-day circuit, or we can add it to any other trip.
- Kasauli: about 60 km from Chandigarh, a short detour off the Shimla road at Dharampur. Tell us and we will add it to the first day.

Questions about Himachal packages from Chandigarh
How much does a Himachal tour package from Chandigarh cost?
Our Chandigarh-start trips begin at ₹12,499 per person for 5 nights in Shimla and Manali (twin sharing, Deluxe hotels, off-season). The 5-night Dharamshala–Dalhousie trip starts at ₹19,499, the 8-night Himachal circuit at ₹29,999, and the Spiti trips from ₹32,500. Peak-season dates are 25% higher.
How far is Shimla from Chandigarh?
About 115 km, a 3–3.5 hour drive via Parwanoo and Solan. Allow 1–2 hours more on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons.
How long is the drive from Chandigarh to Manali?
About 290 km and 7–8 hours on the Kiratpur–Nerchowk four-lane through Mandi and Kullu, including a meal stop. We leave by 6–7 am so the mountain stretch is driven in daylight.
Is it cheaper to start a Himachal trip from Chandigarh than from Delhi?
Yes. On the same 5-night Shimla–Manali trip, a Chandigarh start is ₹2,000 per person cheaper when four share the car, and the saving per person is bigger for couples. Many Delhi travellers take the Shatabdi to Chandigarh and start from the station.
Can you pick us up from Chandigarh airport?
Yes. We pick up from Chandigarh Airport (IXC), Chandigarh railway station, Kalka station, ISBT-43 and any address in Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula or Zirakpur. If you land after midday, we start with Shimla rather than Manali.
