Short answer: A private 6-day Golden Triangle tour (Delhi–Agra–Jaipur) with a car and driver, mid-range hotels and local guides typically costs about ₹55,000–₹95,000 per person (roughly US$580–1,000 or £430–750) for two people sharing, excluding international flights. Budget travellers using trains and guesthouses can manage the same route for about ₹25,000–₹40,000 (US$260–420). Luxury trips with palace hotels start around ₹190,000 (US$2,000) per person and go far higher.

Quick answer (checked 30 October 2026)

  • Budget (trains, guesthouses, shared tours): about ₹25,000–₹40,000 per person for 5–6 days (US$260–420 / £200–315).

  • Luxury (palace hotels, premium guides): from about ₹190,000 per person (US$2,000 / £1,500), often much more.
  • Monument fees for foreigners: Taj Mahal ₹1,100 + ₹200 mausoleum, Agra Fort ₹650, Fatehpur Sikri ₹610 (ASI, checked 30 Oct 2026); Jaipur sights roughly ₹1,500–₹2,000 in total.

What does a Golden Triangle tour cost in 2026-27?

The honest answer is that the route itself is cheap; the hotels decide the bill. Delhi, Agra and Jaipur are 200–280 km apart on good roads, monument fees for a foreign visitor add up to about ₹4,000–₹5,000 (US$42–53) for the whole circuit, and a car with driver for six days is a fixed cost shared by everyone in it. What moves the total from ₹30,000 to ₹300,000 per person is whether you sleep in a ₹2,000 guesthouse or a ₹40,000 palace suite.

The table below gives our working bands for a 5-night, 6-day trip (2 nights Delhi, 1 night Agra, 2 nights Jaipur), per person with two people sharing a room, excluding international flights and visas. We have built the figures from our own supplier rates in October 2026 and from current monument tariffs; they are ranges, not quotes, because hotel rates swing with the season (peak is roughly 20 December to 5 January and again from mid-March at Holi).

Style What you get Per person, 6 days (₹) About US$ About £
Budget Trains (Shatabdi / Gatimaan), guesthouses or 2-star hotels, shared day tours, street and local food ₹25,000–₹40,000 US$260–420 £200–315
Mid-range Private car and driver, 3–4 star or heritage-style hotels with breakfast, licensed guides in each city, all monument fees ₹55,000–₹95,000 US$580–1,000 £430–750
Luxury Palace or 5-star hotels (Oberoi, Taj, Rambagh-class), premium SUV, senior guides, private experiences ₹190,000 upwards US$2,000+ £1,500+

Solo travellers should add roughly 30–40% to the mid-range and luxury bands, because the car and the room are no longer shared. Families of four usually come in 10–15% under the per-person band, because the car cost is spread four ways and children often share a room with parents.

What is included in a typical Golden Triangle package price?

Comparing quotes is only useful if you know what each one covers. When we price a Golden Triangle tour, the quote normally includes:

  • Air-conditioned private car (sedan for two, Innova Crysta or similar SUV for three to six) with the same driver for the whole trip, fuel, tolls, parking, interstate taxes and the driver’s own food and lodging.
  • Hotels on a bed-and-breakfast basis, with the hotel names written in the quote, not just “3-star or similar”.
  • Airport or station pick-up and drop in Delhi.
  • Government-licensed local guides in Delhi, Agra and Jaipur (half or full day as the itinerary needs).
  • GST (goods and services tax), which is 5% on packaged tours.

What is usually not included, by us or by most operators, is monument entry fees (foreigners pay a higher tariff, so quoting them inside the package inflates it), lunches and dinners, camera or video fees, the Taj Mahal mausoleum ticket, tips, and anything optional such as a hot-air balloon flight in Jaipur or an elephant-free jeep ride up to Amer. Our guide to tipping in India explains what drivers and guides expect, because that is the one cost nobody puts in the brochure.

How much do the monuments cost for foreign visitors?

These are the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) tariffs for foreign nationals, taken from the official Agra ticketing page on 30 October 2026. Indian citizens pay far less, which is why a quote that “includes all entry fees” from an operator used to domestic clients can be badly underestimated.

Monument Foreigner fee (checked 30 Oct 2026) About US$ / £ Notes
Taj Mahal ₹1,100 + ₹200 main mausoleum US$13.70 / £10.20 Closed Fridays; opens 30 min before sunrise (ASI)
Agra Fort ₹650 US$6.80 / £5.10 ₹600 on Fridays (ASI)
Fatehpur Sikri ₹610 US$6.40 / £4.80 Jama Masjid and Buland Darwaza are free (ASI)
Itimad-ud-Daulah / Mehtab Bagh ₹310 / ₹300 about US$3.20 each Optional Agra extras (ASI)
Jaipur: Amer Fort, City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal, Nahargarh roughly ₹1,800–₹2,000 in total about US$19–21 / £14–16 Amer about ₹550, City Palace about ₹700 for foreigners; check at the gate, Rajasthan revises tariffs
Delhi: Qutub Minar, Humayun’s Tomb, Red Fort roughly ₹600 each about US$6.30 each ASI sites; Red Fort closed Mondays

Budget about ₹4,500–₹5,500 (US$47–58) per adult for a full set of entries across the three cities. Children under 15 enter ASI monuments free. Our guide to the Taj Mahal at sunrise has the gate-by-gate detail on tickets and queues.

How much does transport cost between Delhi, Agra and Jaipur?

This is where private tours and independent trips diverge most. On the train, the 12002 Bhopal Shatabdi leaves New Delhi at 06:00 and reaches Agra Cantt at 07:50, the 12050 Gatimaan Express leaves Hazrat Nizamuddin at 08:10 and arrives at 09:50, and from Jaipur the 12016 Shatabdi leaves at 17:35 and is back in New Delhi at 22:30 (erail and ConfirmTkt timetables, checked 30 Oct 2026). Chair Car fares on these trains are roughly ₹800–₹1,500 (US$8–16) per sector depending on class; the Agra–Jaipur leg is slower, with the 22988 Agra Fort–Ajmer Superfast leaving at 14:35 and reaching Jaipur at 18:45. Our guide to Indian train classes explains what CC and EC seats are like.

A private car with driver for the full six-day loop is a single fixed cost that depends on the vehicle (a sedan is cheapest, a Toyota Innova Crysta is the comfortable choice for three or more) and on the season. Split between two people it is usually a little more than the trains plus taxis; split between four it is cheaper. The real saving is time: a car does Agra to Jaipur in 4–5 hours with a stop at Fatehpur Sikri and the Abhaneri stepwell, which no train can do. Our Agra to Jaipur road guide covers that leg, and our Delhi to Jaipur guide compares train, car and flight for the return.

Flights are rarely worth it inside the triangle. Delhi–Jaipur is about an hour in the air but four hours door to door, which is the same as the Shatabdi.

What do hotels cost on the Golden Triangle?

Room rates are the biggest variable and the one we can least pin down for you in advance, because the same hotel can double its rate between a wet Tuesday in August and the week between Christmas and New Year. As a planning guide for October to March, per room per night including breakfast and taxes:

  • Guesthouses and 2-star hotels: about ₹1,500–₹3,500 (US$16–37). Clean, basic, often family-run; Paharganj in Delhi, Taj Ganj in Agra and the Bani Park area of Jaipur have dozens.
  • 3-star and small heritage hotels: about ₹4,000–₹9,000 (US$42–95). This is the band most of our mid-range quotes use: converted havelis in Jaipur, business hotels in Agra with a Taj view from the roof.
  • 4-star and upper heritage: about ₹9,000–₹18,000 (US$95–190).
  • 5-star and palace hotels: ₹20,000–₹60,000 and up (US$210–630+). The Oberoi Amarvilas in Agra and the Rambagh Palace in Jaipur are the names people ask for; we can book them but do not pretend to discount them.

Hotel GST in India is currently 5% on rooms up to ₹7,500 a night and 18% above that (the slabs changed in September 2025), so check whether a quoted rate is inclusive. In our quotes it always is.

Guides, food, tips and the costs people forget

A licensed local guide for a full day costs roughly ₹2,500–₹4,500 (US$26–47) in Agra or Jaipur for a small group, less for a half day, and is worth it at the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Amer. Food is cheap by Western standards: a thali or a plate of chole bhature at a clean local restaurant is ₹150–₹400, a dinner for two at a good hotel restaurant with a beer is about ₹2,500–₹4,000. Allow ₹1,000–₹2,500 (US$10–26) per person per day for meals outside the hotel breakfast, more if you eat in palace dining rooms.

Tips add up to perhaps ₹500–₹800 per day across the driver and guides on a mid-range trip. Optional extras are where budgets quietly expand: a sunrise hot-air balloon flight over Jaipur is advertised from around US$290 per person (Civitatis listing, checked 30 Oct 2026), a dinner show at Chokhi Dhani is a few thousand rupees per head, and a private Mehtab Bagh sunset with a photographer is whatever the photographer charges. Factor in a tourist SIM card (a few hundred rupees) and travel insurance, which you buy at home.

A worked example: two people, 6 days, mid-range, January 2027

Item Basis Approx. total for two (₹)
Private sedan + driver, 6 days Fuel, tolls, parking, driver allowance included ₹28,000–₹36,000
Hotels, 5 nights 3-star / heritage, B&B, about ₹6,000 per night ₹30,000
Guides Half day Delhi, full day Agra, full day Jaipur ₹9,000–₹12,000
Monument fees Full circuit, foreign tariff ₹9,000–₹11,000
Meals and tips About ₹1,500 pp per day + tips ₹20,000–₹24,000
Total for two Excluding flights and visa ₹96,000–₹113,000 (about US$1,000–1,190; £755–890)

That works out at roughly ₹48,000–₹57,000 (US$505–600) each, at the lower end of our mid-range band because January rates outside the New Year week are moderate. The same trip over 24 December to 2 January would cost 20–30% more in hotels alone. For a longer loop that adds Ranthambore or Varanasi, see our 7-day Golden Triangle itinerary, Golden Triangle with Ranthambore and Golden Triangle with Varanasi guides. If you are weighing India as a whole, our India trip cost guide gives daily budgets for one, two and three weeks.

How do payment and cancellation work when you book with us?

A 20% token payment confirms your booking and holds the hotels and the car. If you cancel within 48 hours of paying the token, we refund it in full. The balance is due before the trip starts. We accept international cards through Razorpay and PayPal, so you are not wiring money to an Indian bank account you cannot verify. After the 48-hour window the advance is non-refundable, but you can move your dates once within six months at no charge, which is useful if a flight schedule changes. Full details are on our payment and booking page and cancellation policy.

Ask any operator for the same three things before paying: the hotel names, the vehicle type, and a written list of exclusions. If a quote looks 30% cheaper than everyone else’s, one of those three is usually where the difference is hiding. Our guide to checking a local tour operator in India lists the registrations and red flags to look for.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Golden Triangle tour cost per person?

For a 6-day private trip with a car, driver, mid-range hotels and guides, budget about ₹55,000–₹95,000 per person with two sharing (US$580–1,000 or £430–750), excluding international flights. Backpackers using trains and guesthouses can do it for ₹25,000–₹40,000, and luxury palace-hotel trips start around ₹190,000 per person.

Is the Golden Triangle cheaper by train or by private car?

For one or two people the trains are cheaper: Shatabdi and Gatimaan Chair Car fares are roughly ₹800–₹1,500 per sector. For three or more, a private car works out about the same or less once you add station taxis, and it lets you stop at Fatehpur Sikri and Abhaneri on the Agra–Jaipur road, which trains cannot do.

What are the monument entry fees for foreigners?

Under ASI tariffs checked on 30 October 2026, the Taj Mahal costs ₹1,100 plus ₹200 for the main mausoleum, Agra Fort ₹650 and Fatehpur Sikri ₹610. Jaipur’s main sights (Amer Fort, City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal, Nahargarh) add roughly ₹1,800–₹2,000. Budget about ₹4,500–₹5,500 per adult for the whole circuit.

What is usually excluded from a Golden Triangle package price?

Most operators, including us, exclude monument entry fees, lunches and dinners, camera fees, tips, and optional activities such as hot-air ballooning in Jaipur. Always ask for hotel names, the vehicle model and a written exclusions list before comparing quotes, because that is where cheap-looking packages differ.

When is the Golden Triangle most expensive?

Hotel rates peak from about 20 December to 5 January and again around Holi (22 March 2027), when the better hotels in Jaipur and Agra can cost 25–50% more than in November or February. April to September is cheapest, but Delhi and Agra are very hot from April to June and wet from July to September.

How much deposit do I pay, and is it refundable?

We take a 20% token to confirm, refundable in full if you cancel within 48 hours of paying. The balance is due before the trip. International cards are accepted through Razorpay and PayPal. After 48 hours the advance is non-refundable, but you can change your dates once within six months.
