Chamba (about 1,000 m) is an old town on the Ravi, well below Dalhousie and Khajjiar and much warmer than both. India Meteorological Department averages make January the coldest month (about 17.9 °C by day, 4.2 °C at night) and May the warmest (about 33.5 °C by day). Rain peaks twice — March (~160 mm) and July–August (~170 mm). Snow rarely settles in Chamba town; for snow go to Khajjiar, Dalhousie or Bharmour.

Where to find snow near Chamba
Chamba sits low in the Ravi valley, so snow rarely settles in town. Higher up:
Khajjiar (~1,920 m) and Dalhousie (~1,970 m): late December to February, mostly January; the Khajjiar road is the first to close after snow — Dalhousie weather by month.
Bharmour (~2,195 m): about 65 km from Chamba; heavy winter snow and frequent road closures. In summer, the base for the Manimahesh yatra — Bharmour weather.
Sach Pass: the high pass to Pangi is snowbound in winter and usually opens only in summer.
The Minjar fair and Chamba's monsoon
Chamba’s famous Minjar fair is held on the Chaugan in Shravan (July–August) — in the middle of the monsoon. Carry an umbrella and shoes with grip, and watch for landslides on the Pathankot–Chamba road.
October–November has the clearest weather — the best time for the Lakshmi Narayan temples, the Chaugan and the Bhuri Singh Museum.
