Weather and sights

Chail Palace, the cricket ground and Kali ka Tibba: when to go

Chail Palace, the old summer palace of the Maharaja of Patiala, and the cricket ground — often called the world’s highest — are pleasant from March to June and October to November, when the lawns and forest walks are dry.

Kali ka Tibba, the hilltop temple near Chail, gives the clearest Himalayan views on the dry, cold days of October to December.

After snow the roads from Kufri and from Kandaghat and Sadhupul can be slippery for a day or two; a car with a driver used to hill roads is the safe choice. More: Chail travel guide.
