The season runs from early December to February, but ice forms only on clear, freezing nights, so sessions are never guaranteed. Will there be ice tomorrow?
The rink is natural ice: water freezes overnight only when the sky is clear and the temperature drops below zero. Cloud, rain or a warm night means no session the next morning.
That is why we suggest at least two nights in Shimla — more mornings, more chances of skating.

When is the ice skating season in Shimla?
From early December to about February, only on clear, freezing nights. The 2025-26 season opened on 3 December 2025.
What are the rink timings?
The morning session ran 8–10 am at the start of the 2025-26 season, and the club adds evening sessions once the ice holds. Timings are set by the club on the day.
Can tourists skate without being club members?
Yes. HP Tourism says entry is offered for the season, shorter terms and single sessions, and skates are available at the rink.
Why are sessions sometimes cancelled?
The ice is natural: water freezes overnight only when the sky is clear and the temperature drops below zero. In 2024-25 the rink managed 35 sessions; by 11 January 2026 it had held 24.
Where is the ice skating rink in Shimla?
In central Shimla on the Lakkar Bazaar side, below the Ridge.
Is there ice skating in Shimla all year?
Not on the natural rink — it freezes only in winter. From March to November we plan other Shimla experiences, and in winter we pair the rink with Kufri snow days.
