The 2026 Triund rules we check for your date
Suzu Travels is an HP Tourism registered travel agent (Reg. No. DTO-MND-11-243/2022). We arrange treks only with registered local operators and plan around these rules:
- Register at GalluA Kangra district order (Nov 2025) made registration compulsory at 10 trek entry points, including Gallu temple. Carry original ID; trekking without registering can bring legal action.
- Winter orderIn recent winters Kangra banned all trekking above 3,000 m and allowed Triund only with SP Kangra permission, cancelled on any IMD warning. Expect a fresh order each winter — we check it for your date.
- Guide ratioKangra asked operators for registered trekkers and no more than 10 trekkers per guide; GPS tracking on expeditions.
- Registered guides onlyWe use registered local guides of operators registered with HP Tourism.
- No firesA forest fire on the Triund route in January 2026 put the area on high alert — no fires or smoking on the trail.
- Start early, carry waterFill up at Gallu (no reliable water on top), carry a headlamp and rain shell, and turn back if cloud builds or the 22 curves are icy.

Triund trek — questions
How long is the Triund trek?
About 9 km one way from McLeodganj, or about 5.5 km from the Gallu Devi check post above Dharamkot. Most people take 4–5 hours to go up and 2–3 hours to come down.
Where does the Triund trek start?
At Gallu Devi temple above Dharamkot, where the forest check post is. You can walk up from McLeodganj or take a cab close to Gallu.
Do I need a permit for Triund?
There is no separate permit in season, but you must register with original ID at the Gallu check post and pay the forest entry fee there. In winter, Kangra’s district order requires prior permission from the SP Kangra office for Triund.
Can I camp at Triund?
Yes, in regulated spots on the ridge, with a tent fee paid to the forest counter. Numbers are limited, so book the camp through a registered operator before you go.
What is the best time for the Triund trek?
March–June and September–November. October has the clearest views; avoid the July–August monsoon.
Is Triund open in winter?
It depends on the winter order and the weather. Kangra has banned trekking above 3,000 m in recent winters and allowed Triund only with SP permission, cancelled on any IMD alert. Snowline and beyond are above 3,000 m.
Is the Triund trek easy for beginners?
Yes for most fit beginners and families with older kids; the last ~2 km is steep and rocky. Start by 7 am and carry water from Gallu.
Can I do Triund in one day?
Yes. Start early, reach the top by late morning and begin the descent by early afternoon so you are down before dark.
What does a Triund trek package cost?
It depends on day hike or camp, group size, guide, season, cab and hotel nights. Send your date on WhatsApp and we share today’s rate within minutes — Price: Get Quote.
