Road tips for Jammu to Katra
Collect the RFID card at the right time
Every pilgrim needs a free RFID yatra card from the Shrine Board, issued at the counters near the Katra bus stand and on the Udhampur road. You must cross the Banganga check post within six hours of getting it — so if you reach Katra in the evening and climb next morning, collect the card in the morning.
Straight from the airport
Jammu airport is about 50 km from Katra. Book with your flight number: the driver tracks delays, meets you at arrivals and takes the Kunjwani bypass, so most travellers are at their Katra hotel within about an hour and a half of landing.
Off the overnight train
Many trains from Delhi reach Jammu Tawi very early. A pre-booked car means no haggling at the station exit at 5 am, and you can still be at the registration counter soon after it opens. Trains that run through to SVDK Katra are an option too — the taxi is easier with family luggage or seniors.
Keep the same car for the return
Most pilgrims come down from the Bhawan and head back to Jammu the next day. A 2-day booking keeps one car and driver with you — useful if you also want Shiv Khori, Patnitop or a Jammu city half day — and is often simpler than two separate one-way drops.
Peak days at Katra
Navratri (spring and autumn), the Christmas–New Year week and summer school holidays are the busiest. Book the car and the hotel early for those dates and expect slower traffic near the Katra bus stand in the evening.
Winter mornings
Dense fog can sit over Jammu on December–January mornings and slow flights and trains. We track your arrival and adjust the pickup — no extra charge for waiting on a delayed flight or train.

What is the taxi fare from Jammu to Katra?
One-way fares start around ₹2,199 for a hatchback, ₹2,499 for a sedan, ₹3,299 for an Ertiga, ₹3,799 for a Kia Carens and ₹4,499 for an Innova Crysta. A 12-seater Tempo Traveller starts around ₹7,499. Tolls and parking are extra at actuals; peak dates cost more.
What is the Jammu airport to Katra taxi fare?
The same as from the city: from ₹2,499 in a sedan, ₹3,299 in an Ertiga and ₹4,499 in an Innova Crysta, one-way. The airport is about 50 km from Katra and the drive takes 1 to 1.5 hours.
How far is Katra from Jammu by road?
About 45–50 km, depending on where you start — Jammu Tawi station and the city centre are a little closer than the airport. The road runs via Nagrota and Domel and takes around 1 to 1.5 hours by taxi.
Can you pick us up at Jammu Tawi railway station?
Yes. The driver waits outside Jammu Tawi with your name, even for trains that arrive before dawn. Share the train number and coach so we can track delays.
Where will the taxi drop us in Katra?
At your hotel, near the main bus stand where the Shrine Board’s Yatri registration counter is, or at SVDK railway station. Cars cannot go beyond Katra — the walk to the Bhawan starts at Banganga, and the helicopter flies from the Katra helipad.
Is the Katra to Jammu taxi fare the same?
Yes. The same one-way fares apply from any Katra hotel, the bus stand area or SVDK station to Jammu airport, Jammu Tawi, the bus stand or a Jammu hotel. For a flight, leave Katra about three hours before departure.
Can the same taxi wait in Katra and bring us back?
Yes. A 2-day Jammu–Katra–Jammu booking is billed per kilometre with a 250 km daily minimum plus ₹400 a night driver allowance; in a sedan it starts around ₹6,399 and leaves the car free for Shiv Khori, Patnitop or a Jammu city tour on the way.
Do you have Innova Crysta and Tempo Traveller for families?
Yes. An Innova Crysta (7 seats, room for 5 bags) starts around ₹4,499 one-way and a 12-seater Tempo Traveller around ₹7,499. For bigger yatra groups we also arrange 17-seaters and Force Urbania vans on request.
