- DelhiPickup from home, hotel, IGI Airport T1/T3, New Delhi, Old Delhi or Nizamuddin station; Gurugram, Noida and Ghaziabad too.
- Murthal · PanipatEarly breakfast at the Murthal dhabas about 45 km out — the best time to be here is before 6:30 am, ahead of the highway traffic.
- Karnal · AmbalaSix-lane NH44 through Haryana. Ambala is the point where the road to Chandigarh and Himachal splits off; you stay on the highway to Punjab.
- LudhianaRoughly the halfway mark and the usual lunch halt. City traffic on weekdays can add half an hour, so the driver may take the elevated road or bypass.
- Jalandhar · Dasuya · MukerianAfter Jalandhar the highway turns north through the Doaba farmland towards the hills; Mukerian is the last big town in Punjab before Pathankot.
- PathankotThe fork for Himachal — Dalhousie and Dharamshala roads leave from here. A good tea stop; Jammu is about 110 km on.
- Lakhanpur · KathuaYou cross the Ravi into Jammu & Kashmir at Lakhanpur. Keep a photo ID handy for the checks at the state entry; Kathua comes soon after.
- Samba · JammuThe last hour runs along the foothills past Samba. Drop at your Jammu hotel, Jammu Tawi station, the airport — or straight on to Katra (about 50 km more).

Road tips for Delhi to Jammu
Start before sunrise
This is a full day on the road. Leaving Delhi at 4:30–5 am gets you past Panipat and Ludhiana before the traffic and into Jammu by late afternoon, with daylight to spare for the last stretch through Kathua and Samba.
ID at the J&K entry
Vehicles entering Jammu & Kashmir at Lakhanpur can be stopped for a security check. Keep an Aadhaar, passport or driving licence for every adult within reach — it usually takes a few minutes.
The new expressway, in parts
The Delhi–Amritsar–Katra Expressway is being opened in sections — a 158 km stretch in Haryana was inaugurated in July 2026 — but the full corridor is not due before 2027. Until then most of the drive is on NH44, and your driver uses an open section only where it actually saves time.
Winter fog on the plains
From mid-December to January, dense morning fog is common in Haryana and Punjab. On foggy days we may push the start to after first light and add an hour to the plan — safety first.
Going on to Katra or Srinagar
Katra (for Vaishno Devi) is about 50 km past Jammu, so a direct Delhi to Katra drop is easy to arrange in the same car. For Srinagar, most travellers break the journey in Jammu or Katra and continue the next morning in a J&K taxi or on the train — we can book that leg too.

Questions travellers ask
How much is a taxi from Delhi to Jammu?
One-way fares start around ₹6,599 for a hatchback, ₹7,599 for a sedan, ₹9,599 for an Ertiga, ₹11,099 for a Kia Carens and ₹13,099 for an Innova Crysta. A 12-seater Tempo Traveller starts around ₹25,599. Tolls, parking and state entry charges are extra at actuals; peak dates cost more.
How long does Delhi to Jammu take by road?
About 10–11 hours for roughly 590 km, with a breakfast and a lunch stop. Leaving before 5 am saves time around Panipat and Ludhiana; a late start or a weekday jam in the cities can push it to 12 hours.
Which route does the taxi take from Delhi to Jammu?
NH44 all the way: Panipat, Karnal, Ambala, Rajpura, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Dasuya, Mukerian, Pathankot, then over the Lakhanpur border to Kathua, Samba and Jammu. It is a four- to six-lane highway for almost the whole drive.
Is the Jammu to Delhi taxi fare the same?
Yes. The same one-way fares apply from Jammu Tawi station, Jammu airport, the bus stand or any Jammu hotel to anywhere in Delhi NCR, including IGI Airport.
Can the taxi drop us at Katra instead of Jammu?
Yes. Delhi to Katra is about 640 km and starts around ₹8,199 in a sedan and ₹14,199 in an Innova Crysta, one-way. The driver drops you at your hotel or near the Shrine Board’s yatra registration counter.
Is the Delhi–Amritsar–Katra Expressway open?
Only in parts. A 158 km stretch in Haryana opened in July 2026 and more sections are being added, but the full road is not expected before 2027. For now taxis to Jammu still use NH44 for most of the way.
Is a round trip cheaper than two one-way rides?
For trips of a few days, yes. Round trips are billed per kilometre driven (a sedan is ₹12/km with a 250 km daily minimum) plus ₹400 a night driver allowance, so Delhi–Jammu–Katra–Delhi in 4 days often costs less than two separate one-way drops.
Can you pick me up from Delhi airport for Jammu?
Yes, from IGI T1, T2 or T3. Share your flight number; the driver tracks it and waits at arrivals with your name.
