Road tips for Delhi to Haldwani
Leave Delhi by 6–7 am
NH-9 carries heavy truck traffic through Ghaziabad, Hapur and Moradabad later in the day. An early start puts you in Haldwani by early afternoon; in December and January we push the start to after first light because of fog.
Uttarakhand’s green cess
Since 15 February 2026 out-of-state cars pay Uttarakhand’s green cess (₹80 for light vehicles) when they enter the state near Rudrapur. It goes on your quote at actuals with the NH-9 tolls and any parking — nothing is added on the day without being shown first.
Going up to Nainital or Bhimtal?
Haldwani is the last plains town; Nainital is about 40 km and an hour of hill road beyond, Bhimtal a little less. Book the drop straight to your hill hotel and the same car does the climb — see our Delhi to Nainital taxi fares.
Kathgodam and Haldwani stations
If you come by train and only need the return, the car can wait at Kathgodam or Haldwani station for the Delhi run. Share the train number and the driver tracks it.
Jim Corbett on the way
Ramnagar, the gateway to Jim Corbett National Park, is about 65 km from Haldwani by the Kaladhungi road. Ask for one fare covering Delhi → Corbett → Haldwani, or Haldwani → Corbett → Delhi on the way back.
Fog and Kartik mela days
Dense fog from mid-December to February slows NH-9, and the Kartik Purnima Ganga mela at Garhmukteshwar brings traffic diversions near the bridge. We watch advisories and adjust your start time.

How long does Delhi to Haldwani take by car?
About 6–7 hours door to door for roughly 285 km with a breakfast and a lunch stop. The driving time alone is a little over 5 hours on a clear day; Friday evenings, festival days and foggy winter mornings can add 1–2 hours.
Which is the best road route from Delhi to Haldwani?
Delhi–Meerut Expressway and NH-9 via Hapur, Garhmukteshwar, Gajraula, Moradabad and Rampur to Rudrapur, then NH-109 via Pantnagar and Lalkuan. A new Bareilly–Haldwani greenfield expressway is under construction (work started in 2026) but is not open yet.
Is the Haldwani to Delhi taxi fare the same?
Yes. The same one-way fares apply from anywhere in Haldwani, Kathgodam, Lalkuan or Rudrapur to anywhere in Delhi NCR, including IGI Airport, Noida and Gurugram.
Can the taxi pick me up from Delhi airport?
Yes, from IGI T1, T2 or T3 — the driver waits at arrivals with your name and tracks your flight. A morning landing gets you to Haldwani the same evening without night driving on the busiest stretch.
Can I book a Delhi–Haldwani–Delhi round trip?
Yes. Round trips are billed per kilometre driven (a sedan is ₹12/km, 250 km daily minimum) plus ₹400 a night driver allowance. A 2-day return trip in a sedan starts around ₹7,299, tolls and parking extra.
Can you drop me at Kathgodam station or Nainital instead?
Yes. Kathgodam station is about 5 km past Haldwani at the same fare. For Nainital, Bhimtal or Kainchi Dham the car continues up the hill road; the fare is quoted for the full distance.
Which car is best for a family of six?
An Ertiga (from ₹4,699) is the budget pick for six with light luggage; an Innova Crysta (from ₹6,299) gives more legroom and boot space for a long plains day.
