Road tips for Delhi to Agra
The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays
The monument is open from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes before sunset, every day except Friday, when only the mosque opens for prayers. Plan a Friday trip around Agra Fort, Mehtab Bagh or Fatehpur Sikri instead.
Cars stop 500 m short of the Taj
Petrol and diesel vehicles are not allowed within 500 m of the monument. The driver drops you at the Shilpgram (East Gate) or West Gate parking, and battery buses or paid golf carts take you to the entrance.
Leave Delhi early
A 5:30–6 am start gets you through Noida before the office traffic and into Agra by about 9:30 am, before the midday crowds and heat at the Taj.
Winter fog on the expressway
Dense fog is common from mid-December to mid-February. Last winter the authorities cut the car speed limit on the Yamuna Expressway from 100 to 75 km/h between 15 December and 15 February; on foggy mornings we start after first light and add an hour.
Add Mathura, Vrindavan or Fatehpur Sikri
Mathura and Vrindavan sit right on the way, and Fatehpur Sikri is about 40 km from Agra. Any of them adds a few hours; ask for one fare covering the whole day.
Tickets are bought separately
Monument tickets are not part of the cab fare. Indian citizens pay ₹50 at the Taj, plus ₹200 to enter the main mausoleum; children under 15 go free. Buying online through the ASI portal saves time at the counter.

Questions travellers ask
How much is a taxi from Delhi to Agra?
One-way fares start around ₹2,699 for a hatchback, ₹3,199 for a sedan, ₹3,999 for an Ertiga, ₹4,599 for a Kia Carens and ₹5,399 for an Innova Crysta. A 12-seater Tempo Traveller starts around ₹10,599. Tolls, parking and state entry charges are extra at actuals; peak dates cost more.
How long does Delhi to Agra take by taxi?
About 3.5–4.5 hours for roughly 230 km on the Yamuna Expressway, with one short stop. Leaving after 8 am on a weekday can add an hour of traffic in Delhi and Noida before you reach the expressway.
Which route does the taxi take to Agra?
From Delhi to Noida, down the Noida–Greater Noida Expressway to Zero Point, then the Yamuna Expressway past Jewar and Mathura to Agra. The older NH-19 through Faridabad, Palwal and Mathura is slower and used only if you want stops along it.
Can I do a same-day Delhi–Agra–Delhi trip by taxi?
Yes. Leave Delhi by 6 am, see the Taj and Agra Fort, and be back by 9–10 pm. A same-day round trip is billed per kilometre (about 460 km): a sedan starts around ₹5,599 and an Innova Crysta around ₹8,799, tolls and parking extra.
Is the Agra to Delhi taxi fare the same?
Yes. The same one-way fares apply from any Agra hotel, Agra Cantt station or the Taj Mahal parking to anywhere in Delhi NCR, including IGI Airport and Noida International Airport at Jewar.
Can you pick me up from Delhi airport for Agra?
Yes, from IGI T1, T2 or T3 — share your flight number and the driver waits at arrivals with your name. Pickups from Noida International Airport at Jewar are possible too, and are much closer to Agra.
Is the Taj Mahal open every day?
No. It is closed on Fridays. On other days it opens 30 minutes before sunrise and closes 30 minutes before sunset, so a sunrise visit means leaving Delhi at about 2–2:30 am or staying the night in Agra.
Can the same taxi cover Mathura, Vrindavan or a Golden Triangle tour?
Yes. Mathura and Vrindavan are on the way, and a Delhi–Agra–Jaipur–Delhi Golden Triangle in one car takes 3–5 days. Multi-day trips are billed per kilometre (a sedan is ₹12/km, 250 km daily minimum) plus ₹400 a night driver allowance.
